CCM U+ SKATES (any reviews/ feedback) ?

Recommended Posts

So I am deciding between the U+ and one95 skates. I tried on both and both feel great. So far I am hearing plenty good about the one95 skates, I was just wondering if anyone on here has used the U+ skates and could provide some feedback. The reason I am asking is basically a $ 150 in price.

(I tried searching but when I put ccm U+ i keep getting an error)

I've worn both skates. Skated the U+s in Montreal.

I'm set to get a pair of U+s, just don't know when.

I really wish I could demo skates before I buy them...

First impressions, which one did you like better ?

JR, since the "spot on the right foot" seems to be a personal fit issue, I am interested to hear your comparison between U+ and ONE95 on short term performance. I say short term since you were given the limited use of the U+ in Montreal. Would you pony up the extra moo-lah for the ONE95 or take the U+ and be satisfied? Just curious.

The U+ is not as stiff - it was more comfortable out of the box and baked than the 95 (as far as the interior goes). It gets really soft when hot then hardens up, but not nearly as stiff as the 95.

Performance-wise, keep in mind I was skating the U+ with a longer radii and a different ROH than what I normally skate on. It was a bit awkward for me (I fell a couple of times when doing tight turns)

It's the best skate CCM has come out in years. The 95 is just a different monster altogether.

I was at my local shop and the CCM rep had dropped off a pair of U+'s and they happened to be my size. Mind you I was at the shop to pick up my One95's so I said what the heck to try them on. the U+'s felt a little lighter then the One95's (not by much but a little light) so I threw them on and the felt great until I sat in them for a few. The U+'s were pretty narrow and were really squeezing my the top of my foot, right before the toes state and on the inside of my foot they were killing me. Granite I do not have wide feet these skates felt pretty narrow to me. I also did not like the tongue's on them at all (I go tongues out and it did not seem possible for the U+ tongues to stay out because they were so soft). All in all I walked out with my One95's and was very happy with them. I like a stiffer boot at times and I was impressed with the way the baking made them really form to my foot. I'll be getting on the ice with them sometime this week to test them out. I was very impressed though with what CCM has done. This was a huge improvement to the Vectors.

You know what I don't understand is the all the companies are coming out with skates that are designed to give you the ideal fit once they are baked, such as the U+ (because like JR said they really feel boxy just out of the box), but how can you really be sure its really the right fit unless you bake the skates and see what it feels like ? In a funny way its really stupid marketing concept, because stores don't bake the skates until you buy them.

Anyways thats pretty much why I am going with the one95's, because out of the box they just felt better then the U+.

Skates can be rebaked -

IF I had a customer on the fence about a skate, I will bake it for them.

Yeah too bad 99 % of businesses don't think like you

yup...

U+ felt cheap to me, one95 felt better out the box, U+ def have to be heated...

yes, despite all my guffs with Pure Hockey... one guy did offer to bake a pair of Missions, and made it clear "You're not obligated to buy... they can be baked about 3 times. You'll have a much better idea of how it fits once it's heated"

That's service...wish I still lived in MI. I guess I could settle for a good LHS within 100 miles.

I saw some shops online that have the U+. I was really excited about it and have been holding off on buying new skates until I saw the pricetag. $600 after tax is a little out of my price range. What disappoints me is that from the description, the U+ is the only skate with the special foam. I thought they would have at least a model down that had the foam.

it'd be nice to find that around here...

when I pulled the one95's out of the box I was a little nervous on the fit. As soon as they were baked I was like "yup, those are some skates"

you'd never find someone who'd be willing to bake and let you try a 650 dollar skate
