Indiana Jones

Who has seen it?

Just got back from watching it, and Indy fans will not be disappointed. Great action, the wit is still there, and all in all, makes for a nice Indy flick!

Very enjoyable. I never get tired of the long and ridiculous action sequences.

7.5/10 and I'm tough on my movies.

Very good, but I'd put it behind Raiders and Crusade. The ending felt forced and WTF.

agreed. Not my favorite Indy flick, but I still liked it and would recommend everyone to see it

over all 8/10

I haven't seen it yet....but I never expected it to come close to Raiders. That movie was fantastic. Another example of how you can never top the original. B)

Saw it last nite with the bf. I thought it was decent, although I agree with everyone that they chose an oddball climax for the movie.

It was just all very anti-climactic. I do like that Ford's said he's open for more and would also be okay with LeBeouf taking over the whip sword and fedora.

I didn't think it was a good movie. Started out alright, but went downhill for me.

There were too many scenes in it were the audience was laughing at things that aren't supposed to be funny, most notably when LeBeouf starting swiging through the jungle like a monkey. That just looked stupid.

Also, the storyline completely sucked. What the hell happened at the end? She died of 'too much knowledge'? Retarded. Seriously, you have 20 years to think of a script and that's all you can come up with?

I was entertained and liked most of the movie, but I do agree....some of it was dumb.

A different film for a different period in time. I definitely enjoyed the movie and recommend it to Indy fans but miss the old days of classic special effects... I suppose those days are long gone.

The movie also lead me to believe that there will be at least one or more movies to come... better do it before Harrison develops jawls like my Boston Terrier.

Definitely followed the Indiana style of movie but I agree with the ending's anti-climacticness. The thing that kind of ruined it for me was how a few people in the crowd would clap at just about anything remotely witty done by harrison ford. Did anybody clap at the theaters you guys were at?

Occasionally, and that is really annoying. The worst I ever had to deal with was during the Pirates of the Carribean movies... anytime Johnny Depp would open his mouth I had to deal with people clapping.

When I saw all of the Star Wars SE on Opening Night, everyone did it, but I liked it.

Saw Indy today - I was entertained but the ending was a bit over the top...

Haven't seen it...and, I'm kinda ashamed to admit the only Indy movie I've seen all the way through is "Last Crusade".

But, a buddy of mine (who sees a LOT of movies) said the first hour and a half is a SOLID 9/10, but the end is a 6/10...

Unfortunately, I thought it was weak: a 5.5.

It seems moviemaking has changed too much since the Indy movies first hit the scene. At the time, they were a throwback to Saturday matinees of the 40's and 50's, which was what made them so charming. However, there have been movies the past decade (the first National Treasure comes to mind) that copied the formula while having a slightly higher sense of believability.

This Indy movie had too many scenes which were just too silly. Running atop crates while ten machine guns can't hit him. Going over three waterfalls of fifty feet. Straddling two jeeps going 30 to 40 MPH while sword fighting. It came across almost as slapstick and less as derring do. I realize the movie is supposed to be a throwback, but I think they should have tightened the script.

As a huge, huge fan of the Indy series I really wanted to like this movie. However, that wasn't the case. It wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen in my life, but it was definitely the worst of the Indy series.

Reasons - (spoilers)

1. Indy is no longer a tough guy, and has turned into a bumbling old fool in parts of the movie. Case in point - the motorcycle chase scene where he tells the student some history info in the middle of all of the action. Also, the ending scene where he and Karen Allen kiss and Indy is all wide-eyed and shocked....come on now.

2. TOO MUCH FUCKING CGI. I don't want to see cute little gophers and monkeys and other shit like that. Even the ant scene was way too much. The chase scenes looked way too fake and even downright slow at times. George Lucas needs to be permabanned from using CGI ever again, IMO.

3. The dialogue in many of the scenes was terrible and there was so much exposition in the film it was making me sick. It was really annoying how he just kept figuring everything out without running into any roadblocks. The only conflict/obstacles in the film was how he kept getting caught by the russians. Stupid.

4. The "Mac" character - Don't even get me started. I feel sorry for Ray Winstone though, because he is an awesome actor (see "The Departed" to know what I'm talking about).

5. The script in general was weak. I think this is what bugged me most about the film. It took Spielberg, Lucas and Ford YEARS to make this film because they "couldn't agree on a script." AND THIS IS WHAT THEY DECIDED ON?? You have to be kidding. I was pissed when I saw Frank Darabont's (Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, The Mist) script had been rejected because it surely must have been better than David "Popcorn" Koepp's script was. The whole alien thing was wrong from the first 20 minutes in, when they (WTF!?!) show the alien's hand in the coffin at Area 51. And then it was made worse when they introduced the crystal skull not even halfway through the film. There was no "mystery" to the film whatsoever like there was in Raiders, Temple and Last Crusade.

I am just going to write this film off. As far as I'm concerned, the Indy series ended at Last Crusade just as IMO, the Aliens series ended at "Aliens" (Alien 3 and 4 were insults to the first two films) and the Star Wars series started and ended with the original 3 films.

George Lucas, for the love of god - retire.

Even if I had problems with parts of the movie I can't understand people going "aliens? wtf?" It's Indiana Jones. Aliens was the next plausible step in pulp from what he's done in movies. What, the Ten Commandments and heart-stealing bad guys was believable but aliens don't seem realistic?

I don't have a problem with CGI when it's done right, but there were instances when it was too noticeable in this film. That seems to the cardinal rule for CGI -- it should be so well done that the audience doesn't realize it is being used.

My pet peeve with CGI is when they try to integrate it as a background but the actors don't look like they are part of the scene. They had a scene like that in the movie that was poorly done, where all the actors seemed placed onto the screen. I'm no programmer, so I don't know what needs to be done, although it seems they need to create a shadowing effect on the actors, but I tell The Big D all the time, "The day they can make the backgrounds realistic, and not an obvious green screen, will be a major milestone."

I think the alien angle COULD have been played well....it is a somewhat logical step when you consider there are a lot of theories that the ancients had some contact...but it just wasn't executed well.

I know it's an Indiana Jones movie, but I agree with Jason in that it just got too stupid. I mean, he survives a nuclear explosion by hiding in a refridgerator? Seriously, that's the best thing you could come up with for that scene?

No. The only clapping was when Harrison Ford first came on screen and at the end.

At the beginning I was disappointed with the film. It did not feel like "Indiana Jones" to me. However, at some point during the warehouse sequence I started to view it as a 1950's adventure film (or my perception of what one would have been). With that view the movie became fairly entertaining.

And I agree with the poster who said they would have prefered the older special effect. Also, the Communists needed to be exchanged with Nazis.
