CCM Vector U+ Initial Thoughts

Oh people fit in them... and those same people went down a half size when the new vapors came out because their foot could now fit in the toe cap.

Most people wearing skates that arent deep enough for them, don't believe us? Take a look at how many of your teammates look like their baking bread in their skates.

I've done it before, sometimes it's an options issue, sometimes it's the LHS but that's not the point... Bottomline a deeper skate will fit more people because:

A) More people need a deeper than the average cut skate.

B) A skate that is a little bit too deep will fit better than a skate that is too shallow.

The U+'s react more than most skates when baked, and granted the U+ will feel like you just put your foot into a shoe box......until you bake it. Be sure that you are stating things such as this before you make blanket statements such as "they won't fit most people". But as TBL said.....most people are buying these skates online and without a proper fit simply because they don't understand how a skate is supposed to properly fit.

When I was reffing beer leaguers a few years ago, I asked the team of Russians why they all wore Tacks. The answer was simple, they all had big wide flat feet that needed the space Tacks gave them. Once Tacks went away from the fit, the Russian guys were screwed. Now they can come back to CCM. I tried on the 2nd gen Vector Pro when the CCM Guts/Glory Camp was here last summer. The skate was nowhere near wide enough for the front of my foot. I wouldn't go E width because then I would lose the fit in the heel. It is just a case of if a skate does not fit you correctly, don't buy it.

My son has the U+'s with black holders and standard runners. He has had a chance to break his skates in so here is what he thinks:

First the good: He is very impressed with the responsiveness from the skate, he felt that the very light weight (without the rocket runners) gives him a little bit better acceleration of the line and quicker, tighter turns. The break in period was't to bad except for on hot spot below his ankle. I punched the spot out and everything was fine. He likes the way the foam expanded to mold his foot in and says he feels locked in tight (adding to the quick response feelings). He likes the hard insert in the tongue and hopes it will provide som extra protection.

Now the bad: The durability has really come into question. After only a few skates the liner has started rubbing away above the top eyelet at the corner of the skate. I thought it may be from his shin guard rubbing but he wears them inside the tongue. After looking at the tongue I think the problem is from the perimeter of it. Instead of using a felt type material it is more of an abrasive fabric that could be rubbing it. I've seen this same problem on alot of the U+ skates. We've noticed some bubbling in the boot covering. I think this is just cosmetic. The fabric that is used doesn't seem to be the strongest as he's already got a good gash in one boot. But the boot doesn't look affected.

All in all he is very happy with the skate but would make a few changes. I would put the lace lock on the boot, love the versatility it gives for lacing. Change the perimeter of the tongue to a more

Skated in them tonight -

Was having a little heel slippage - then again I was wearing a thinner sock than I normally wear (left my OxySox, was wearing sanitary) so I attribute it to that. Skates feel very light which is a plus.

However, I did something that I never do - I always profile my skates to a 9' - but didn't do these. The blades didn't feel right, so I had to go back into the locker room and go back to my other skates. I will be profiling them to 9' and giving it a shot next week. The skate has potential - just have to work out the kinks first.

Mr Boucicaut, have you had the opportunity to give them some more time on the ice? I am looking forward to hear about your further impressions of this skate. Are you still experience a little heel slippage? Thank you!

Unfortunately, I have not played hockey in three weeks - I was playing but our league went into playoffs and I was a sub so if I played, the team would forfeit. Has a lot to do with the fact that I've been unemployed for 5 months and can't find any sort of work. I'm not even in Orlando anymore.

Wow, you should play in our league. The have rules about subs, but come playoffs, they are never enforced and the last place team brings in a ringer to win it all.

I want a pair of U+ skates.

I have to shelf mine for a while. :( I was having a problem with pain on my right inner ankle. Jimmy tried punching the spot for me and it actually felt better, but the very next skate the pain was unbearable and my ankle swelled up from the pressure. Glued my S15’s back together and was able to skate last night. I’ll just stick with the S15 for the time being until I figure out what to go with.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll find some kind of decent work soon. Jolly good luck with it!

I've read through this thread and I am getting a mixed message about what happens when you bake these skates, so maybe someone can help me out. JR is saying that the skates really open up when you heat them, while some other people have said the foams expand and make the skate fit closer to your foot and I'm confused as to what actually happens. The reason I ask is that I tried on the skates and generally liked the feel, but I had absolutely no heel lock whatsoever. Is this something that the foams will rectify when they are heated and expand, or do I just not fit in these skates?

Thanks.

Skates opening up when you heat them and foams expanding and makes the skate fit closer to your foot is the same argument. If your foot is narrower than the skate, baking isn't going to contract the fit. Now, if your heel is the correct width and you aren't getting heel lock when you are trying them on, baking can accommodate that by expanding the areas before the heel where it isn't locking. Make sense?

Sorry for offtopic, but is it the same for One95? wouldn't alive sort of stick to the foot?

It goes for ANY skate. That's how baking works. You're using heat to expand the fit of a skate.

If you are swimming in a skate, baking isn't going to suck in the negative space.

Any more reports on the liner deterioration issue?

i dont think the inner lining is as bad as the outside quarter. kid brought his 2 month old u+ in the other day and they looked terrible. the quarter package was ready to fall off thats how bad it was. just all wrinkled and weak.

who sent you the skates???? did you get them directly through ccm or some other retailer???? just wondering because those felt tongues are way better than the original that comes with the skate.
