CCM Vector U+ Initial Thoughts

Recommended Posts

As I stated earlier in this thread. The Original U+ skate was a total flop. The durability, and Fit was totally off the mark. The sports store in Regina Canada that is the rep store for CCM sent their entire stock of ccm U+ back to CCM. The Rep told me that CCM is coming out with a different model because that U+ was suck a bad skate. Just wanted to say I told you so :P Especially to Zing Zang who told me in no certain words that I was out to lunch. I'm a big CCM Skate fan, but This was the worst "Premiere Skate" they have come out with in YEARS. I bought two pairs of Vector 10's for that reason.

As long as CCM cleans up the mess, i.e., takes care of the existing customers with 1.5 releases, and brings version 2.0 to market I'm not sure that it's a total disaster. It sounds like the skate has major potential... It took Edison 1000 tries at inventing the Filament for the light bulb... And CCM is not the first company to have issues with a 1.0 release.

As a Vapor XX guy... hoping the boot holds out a bit longer... they've got me looking...

The skate was tweaked, the fit remains the same.

Just because it didn't fit like your Vector didn't mean that it didn't fit everyone.

So if you want to call me out, go right ahead. I know I'm not upset. We'll see how the changes are received next year.

any advice is much appreciated. i'm pretty worried at this point.

Some Superfeet insoles (Grey I believe) will help up eat more volume as well. Don't stack multiple insoles though, just asking for trouble.

At the begining of the year I obtained a new pair of the U+ skates. They were made for Max Talbot of the Pens and had the plain black leather on the heal, tendon gaurd, and around the eyelets. The tags on the skate listed them as Vector 12's and there is a V on the ankles chrome logo instead of the U+. They also came with standard steel, and doubled Vector 10 tongue. Though I don't think they have the U foam in them.

I think these are the best feeling skates I've ever owned. I've also been through 3 pairs of pro issues ccm's in the past, that were made specifically for me. These skates are crazy light and so far I have no real complaints. As far as wear and durability go...I would say no major issues besides cosmetic...to date.

My question is are the retail version of the U+ that much different than the pair I have. Maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges but I've been a fan of CCM for a long time. With these skates....I'm still a fan.

COuld always go see what they have at PIAS if there is one by you....but $50 is a small price to pay to not have to worry about your skates.

Zach

good idea, theres a ton around here (actually where i got most of my gear incl. my old skates) I'll keep an eye out for something.

Whats the verdict on the durability?

I may pick these up for 375

I try them on they felt really good and really light but the heal felt a little slippery, like the lining needs to be stickier. I'm sure after baking them they would fit a bit better.

They seem way better than my current supreme 70's

It actually didn't hurt my arch either like most skates do. Most of the time my laces make a ( ) shape but these are straight

It would be like 300 with shipping

If I get them at the pro shop I can always get an extended warranty also ;)

Plus free first sharpening and baking, I'll never get a pair of skates on the internet again

is this the model with the improvements?

http://www.hockeydogs.com/ccm-vector-u-plu...s---senior.aspx

Simply, no. The new U+ will have a different outer where the graphics/mesh are epoxy-ed onto the outside of the boot (no separation after baking). Based upon seeing the new skate and what the rep said, the rocket runner will not be on the skate from the factory either.

The U+ Pro definitely has the rocketrunner's on it from the factory.

I have a pair on order to replace my deteriorating 2008 pair, I was told by the CCM rep at my friends LHS that the 09 models will NOT have rocket runners but they can be purchased and installed at additional cost.

You just heard from a CCM employee that Rocket Runners will be on the 09 skate.

I've been saying this from day one, and now a CCM employee has confirmed this, yet, still not good enough for you guys.

I'm wondering if I buy a pair of U+ locally, which are obviously going to be the 08 model, would ccm replace them with the 09 model if/when the liner starts tearing prematurely? I'd love to give these a shot as they seem very deep but I'm leery of trying them with the reports of issues.

Most likely yes, I've heard rumors that CCM is trying to recall the 08 models that were sold to stores and replace them with the 09 models. Just a rumor though, and I can't confirm it yet.
