Top 5 helmets on the market today

Recommended Posts

I can't say for sure the 5 best, but I've used the bauer/nbh 4000/4500 for ever. I guess I just don't like change. Haven't decided if I like the look of any of the new helmets yet.

The HECC certified helmet that fits you the best is the best available helmet on the market.

Thanks, glad to see someone picked up what I was putting down.

In you opinion what are the top 5 helmets on the market starting from 1st to 5th.

maybe he is trying to ask out of all the helmets out there which would offer 'top 5' protection against head injury or concussion out of these potential tests.

1) impact of the puck going 100MPH into side of helmet.

2) impact of player running into the boards head first going 20MPH.

Is that what your question "blueandgold26"?

-or- was your question more of asthetics like nice color and fancy design and what Paris Hilton would think "...is hot...."

P.S. I walked into a party once wearing my Silver Bauer 8000 - and Paris said "....thats hot..." Then I said, "you aint seen nothing yet"

Paris replied with bedroom eyes, "ooooh upstairs"....clueless I said, "No - in the trunk of my car - I got more helmets, gloves and skate too!" LOL

I wouldn't say that. A Jofa 235 probably fits my head best, am I going to say it's the best helmet out there?

It is when the rink is hot and humid, that's why I still keep mine.

There are only three helmets that fit my head right:

Bauer 4500/3500 (currently using the 3500 in black), Itech HC100/Mission Intake, and the now defunct Mission Carbster ( I have a brand new one waiting on ice lol )

CCMs just tend to sqeeze out what little brains I have left, and the rest are getting pretty futuristic looking, the Carbster is about as back to the future as I can get.

The five best on the market today are most likely:

Bauer 9500

Mission Intake

Reebok 8K

Cascade CHX

CCM Vector 10

Not necessarily in that particular order.

You know, I tried the RBK 8K helmet, and it just wasn't "right." So I went back to the NBH 4500 (used to have a Cooper, then a Bauer 4000). I'd definitely but the 4500 at the top of my list, which would look a lot similar to joshy207. ;)

I'd like to check out the NBH 9500, but I'm not ready to drop more money on a helmet only to go back to the 4500.

Still a lot of guys in my league liking the Bauer 4000 and 4500 and the Nike counterpart. The VN helmet is more comfortable to them than the EPP liner in the others I mentioned. You'll never convince them the EPP helmets are more protective either simply because the VN liner is so comfortable a fit for them.

comfort aside, I have yet to see anything that would convince me that EPP is better at protecting hockey players than VN.

Why isn't VN foam used as the primary foam for protection in elite level bicycling helmets?

I think we've had this discussion. VN versus EPP It would be great if someone would test all the helmets under realistic conditions, but just designing the tests would be a challenge.

I havent used or tested all helmets available but based off the 5 or 6 I've used... The 8K will always be last on the list.
