Fabian Brunnstrom

What a game! Brunnstrom netted 3 in his first NHL game including a powerplay game winner. Looks like there will be a lot of Dallas #96 jerseys purchased in the next few days.

I have to say I'm pretty stoked on James Neal as well.

Brunnstrom definitely made the most of his opportunities. It'll be interesting to see how he develops throughout the season, but he looked better than I expected.

I agree on Neal. Skilled and physical.

I can't remember the last time the Stars had exciting offensive rookies. Hopefully Jamie Benn will be doing this next year too.

i noticed brunnstrom was using the ak27 shaft with a kovalev blade taped on the very end and also warrior gloves - i wonder who his hero is? lol

David Perron.

Brunnstrom would have had 4 goals but the ref blew the play dead because Zanon thinks he's Hasek and blocked a shot with his head. Hopefully he has some more games like this one and this isn't the highlight of his season.

Brunnstrom looked good, but neal is the next coming of Malkin. Long and lanky, lefty, some crafty moves...I told Drew at the home opener they look just alike. Neal has some moves, give him some years.

Zach

PS. While Brunnstom had 3 goals, was I the only one that thought 2 of them were tap in's?

...possibly, but he IS the one that tapped them in.

Neal will not put up Malkin's numbers, and dominate a game like Malkin can when he's on his game. I would say Neal is like of a power forward type player with good hands, along the lines of Eric Cole.

Nose for the net... and he's smart about closing distance without giving the goalie an angle. Different approach every time...

That's exactly it, anyone that has watched a good amount of Stars has no doubt seen many guys blow the opportunities that Brunnstrom capitalized on. Like mentioned above, it is great for Dallas to have exciting offensive prospects.

I'm going to lose my shit if I didn't play him.

Ha, thanks for the heads up...He was still FA in my pool. NOT ANYMORE!

That was the first thing I thought of when I heard about the hat trick.

Not scored tonight just yet, must be a bust! :D

Seriously though, obviously a great set of stats to have for his first game, hope he hasn't just fuelled the fire too much!

Ovechkin doesn't really apply, Brunnstrom and Dopita are both un-drafted European players who came to North America later in their careers with great potential but with uncertainty as to how their game would translate to the NHL. But thanks for understanding the comparison.

Of course, Dopita was 33 when he tried the NHL on for size. So, Brunnstrom being only 23 should have a better shot at success.

Maybe another comparison would be a player coming out of the NCAA in his early twenties. Martin St. Louis or Paul Statsny? If Brunnstrom can match up to either of those players, I'm sure the Stars will be pleased.

I hope, I'm just a bitter Flyers fan haha.

The Flyers have a history of expecting players to be someone that they aren't. He was a big, skilled guy and they wanted him to play like Rick Tocchet.

Hence my bitterness, the Clarke years were agonizing for me but I really think they've turned a corner in recent years.

Congratulations to James Neal on his first career hat trick, which came against his childhood home team right before Christmas no less. James has become my favorite player on the Stars and it's awesome to see him doing so well since returning from the minors back November. Dude's the real deal!
