Has anyone actually tried skating ON a puck the way Kovy did? That's shits hard to do.

i'd pull a groin muscle if i did what kovy did. my gf voted for stamkos, she felt he gave the most effort, kovy was my choice, he actually tried some moves that i have yet to see anyone else do.

Someone told me last night that skating ON the puck like that during play is against the rules...akin to closing your hand on the puck? Is that true?

The idea to put it at the end of the season has already been picked apart piece by piece. It's never going to happen.

just because you (person of unknown credentials) think it won't happen doesn't mean it can't be my (other person of unknown credentials) opinion that it should. play nice.

Who was being rude? It was talked about extensively over the last few pages of the thread and there are too many good reasons to not have it at the end of the season. That was the point.

My only complaint about the game was, despite the very high scores, was the lack of dangles/shooting. I wanted to see more guys use thier talents and deke the D men instead of holding onto it, going wide and threading passes. Yeah, sure, it takes a lot of skill to make those passes, but in my opinion, more people want to see OV or Iginla deke the shit out of Robidas or Souray.

Technically, "tried" no.

I did stand on a puck in the crease once, similar to the Kovy move, and bust my coccis, and couldn't sit down for close to 2 weeks. Had to sleep on my side too.

Don't think anyone voted for me either

Unfortunately if the NHL wanted that happening we wouldn't be voting in Nikky Lidstrom's or Bouwmeester's. More along of the lines of John Erskine's.

I think it's a combination of the fact that the danglers don't want to show up the d-men like that, and the fact that even when they are screwing around, these are still NHL defensemen, so you can't just 'deke the shit out them' whenever you want.

But I know what you mean, it seemed like Kovlachuck and Malkin were really trying to beat guys 1 on 1, but everyone else was pretty much just passing.

Best move weekend was hands-down Kovalev's "Paralyzer" on Giguere - load up for the big wrister and then off-speed it. Made him look like an utter fool, smooth as astroglide on butter, and a truly horrific display of skill.

I firmly belive that Kovy/Ovy could 'deke the shit out of' whomever they want, whenever they want. NHL-caliber defenseman or otherwise.

I agree, that was mind blowing. I'm pretty sure I've seen him do that before though in a shoot-out. I'm on the ice tonight so I'm going to give it a try, something tells me I'm going to end up with a stupidly slow shot into a very confused goalie's glove though.

Hejduk also completely embarassed Giguere on his first (or maybe second?) Elmination shootout attempt. Poor JS, he just doesn't have the feel for those shootouts yet. I guess living in Toronto and hardly ever seeing Colorado play, but Hejduk surprised me the most of anybody with his hands in the skills comp/game...I never knew he was that nasty.

You might be right. i think the key to that move is that Kovalev's wrist shot is mind blowing and respected by all goalies. So he can really sell that shot just by loading up. Unless you've unleashed a few cannons at the goalie previously, it seems to me that you will ended up just giving him an easy save.

Since there's no checking in the ASG, that puts the defencemen at a clear disadvantage since they can't take the man. Maybe they figure there's no point in exploiting an unfair advantage with a deke.

HA HA, I guess Roenick never got that memo. But I see your point, the defenseman is at a disadvantage. But then again, aren't the D-Men at a disadvantage facing 12 1st line forwards to begin with?

Regardless, I stand by my opinion that I would like to see more dekeing and one-on-one stuff in the ASG.

Not if they're all-star D-Men. ;)

And you would be wrong.

So be it. We are each entitled to an opinion, as is everyone else. No one's is any more right than another.

Except that I am right because those guys get shut down all the time.

They dont get through the defense every time they touch the puck. Hell Ovie got shut down by a stick check by some scrub boston defenseman just the other night as he tried to toe drag around him.

Oh, and Giguere got voted in, otherwise... vote more! :)

It's been so funny watching Giguere's play go downhill as they decrease the size of goalie equipment and eliminate his cheats. After they put in the core-body tailoring rules for 2010, he'll be a joke. It's just a shame they don't have the balls to strip his Conn Smythe.

Law, what are the rule changes for 2010 you're talking about? I heard something else mentioned about "tailored" goalie gear, but I didn't see anything on Google about it. Are they planning on dramatically downsizing goalie gear or something?

Wait until the shooters figure out Tim Thomas, that will be fun.

Giguere, I understand, he has been slowly shrinking for years and plays a "take up space, stay square to the shooter and let them hit you" style, but I haven't seen Thomas enough to see flaws. He is very acrobatic and seems to be out of position frequently, but then so was Hasek and it worked for him for years. What do you figure is his flaw?
