Beflar

Does anyone else buy for hockey gear when they don't even need it?

Recommended Posts

38 pair of gloves (2 more on the way)

160+ sticks.

6 helmets

3 pair of pants

2 pair of elbow pads

4 pair of shin guards

I don't know if you know how to sharpen skates and work other equipment but you pretty much got a little proshop in your garage huh.

Why would I have 7 pair if I only wear the one I like the best? So I try to refrain. It is frustrating. I just like getting newer and better.

Color coordination, man. That's it and that's all.

Some of my buddies (most of whom play for other teams in other leagues) and I like to "stock-up" on a few extra practice jerseys at the end of each season, then pass them around during the summer...so I have quite a few practice jerseys for a lot of different teams with assorted color schemes. One of the best parts of the summer skates is the fact that I can dress in Topeka colors one day, Marquette, the next, Flint the next, Thorold the next, Pickering the next...etc., etc. Unfortunately, it can be pretty rough getting our hands on a lot of extra equipment (not the kind of stuff you can just walk-out of the dressing room with at the end of the year), so I actually have to "buy" (I don't pay full retail) a lot of helmets/gloves/shells to match the jerseys as my buddies bring them in.

Sticks are mainly what I stock up on. I like stuff that's not around, so when I get a chance to get it I horde it up. I sometimes dabble with current stuff, then move back to what I'm comfortable with. I was moving stuff around and went to the spare room where I just store junk and was embarrassed at the amount of sticks and shafts I had to move around. I don't even have the energy to go thru and sort them, let alone to get them in a picture. Maybe I'll get motivated soon but it's far too many. Not Drew too many, but enough.

Oh yeah, I can see that. If I played for more than one team, I might consider it. But that is why I have all black, as it kind of goes with everything. But I can see the color coordination thing being a factor.

Plus, my adult league team has the 90's blues away jerseys.......ugh. I dont want to coordinate with them as I hope we change uniforms someday soon.

The worst I have gotten two is 3 pairs if skates and 3 shafts, with no heads to put in them. :(

Being poor and tending to your responsibilities sucks.

I ordered a pair of Eagle PPFs the other day for absolutely no reason. They're the exact same colorway as the prostock 4-rolls I got about 2 months back.

As long as I stay on an orange and black squad, I'm set for a couple years.

I really don't know how many pairs of gloves I have, but I bought 5 of rhe largest garbage cans that home depot had to store them in. 95% of all are pro stock. About 12 are the last models of the bauer 5000 and only used 1 pair. 9 pairs of the easton 4 rolls. 4 of the rbk pro stocks. and countless eagles that were bought from a rep. They have numbers stiched on the cuffs to show players in the NHL as to what gloves to order. Bunch of Vapor xxx's and Nike's all pro stocks some with names on cuffs some not. 18 prs skates S-15's, synergy 1300's, Nike v-12;s and model before that, cant recall name, Nike bauer 95's and now a white easton on order to go with my rbk white 9k. 2 each of rbk 6k helmets, easton s-17 and nb8500 one bl one white in each model. 4 elbows, shins, and shoulders all top of line jofa, 2 bauer 5000 shoulders, don't even have a count on sticks, stick and equiptment bags and misc equipt alot never even used. Yea, I am a major gear whore, I have better and more stuff than the two small lhs's in my area. The guys on my team always check to see what I have in stock and what I'm willing to sell before they buy anything. Good thing my wife doesn't know what all the stuff is worth.

I wonder what the current buzz count is.

Buzz doesn't have anything on Ponty.

Ponty's stick collection would bring a tear to Drew's eye.

Is this a joke? If not, dude, sell half of it and take a week in Tahiti.

Nice, I gotta get a look at those cans(odd, that's not the first time I've said that). My glove collection is 16 strong and I've used or plan on using all of them. I just bought a pair of Russian Easton 4-rolls to go with my team-usa and czech Eastons. I like having rare/usual gloves, stuff that you won't see someone else with.

Seriously. Having that many pairs of gloves sitting unused in garbage cans is a crime. Its like having an orphanage with a ton of cute toddlers, and keeping them locked up in a dark room like veal. Do the right and moral thing....let them out to see the light of day, and give them to a loving family who will love them, and use them. God wants you to do this. He told me. (He said to sell them kind of cheap too.)

I just bought a pair of usa and czeck gloves from toronto hockey/goalie heaven didn't even mention those. I'm really not yankin anybody's chain here, I will post some pocs, but I never did it before and I'm afraid I'll piss somebody off if rhe size is too big. also I gotta do it when my wife isn't home to see the stuff all spread out.

I remember his pictures after he got rid of most of his stash. Still had more stick than a lot of stores I've been in.

finally i found that i'm not alone!!!

don't have so many things as some of you have, but i think that nearly every month i have to buy something. Doesn't matter if i don't need anything. Last thing i did is chage holders on my old skates. always wanted to try tblades. so i finally did it.

my sister was in canada two months ago, visit my cousins there: new pants and new stick. I had to talk by cell phone from italy with the store clerk to make sure it was the correct stick!

My bank account is still happy only because i'm in italy, the closer shop is 250km far from my house, and shipping costs from HG are high right now. But still i have 3helmets, 4 pair of gloves, sticks, 3 skates, 2 pants... yes definitely i like shopping hockey gear as my wife like shopping new dresses...

This thread is dangerous. I'm starting to feel not that bad about my small gear collection, and even think about expanding it. The last thing any of us need are more enablers!

My collection is going to hit the streets for a similar purpose.

I'm not too bad, mostly just sticks...nothing serious tho, my friends think its weird when i stop using a wooden blade thats a noodle because its still in one piece. I usually give my "old" stuff to my friends when I'm done with it.
