EBondo 233 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 I'm almost positive that second video happened at the Flyers Skate Zone in Northeast Philly, either that or the rink in Bethlehem, because they both have the same layout
JR Boucicaut 3797 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 Yeah I remember you saying that the first time that was posted.I'm assuming it is Canada because of the red armbands on the ref.

sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 What an absolute waste of space that Web site is. Nothing but videos of people being killed in gnarly ways. I'm completely baffled by the joy people get from watching other people meet their death. Anyone who enjoys those kinds of Web sites is a f'n nutjob. Not an attack on mgoblue, he may have found that link elsewhere.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 The most disturbing thing to me is the parents, mostly mothers, yelling and bitching during and after the assault. Hockey parents are the most obnoxious and abusive group of people I have ever seen. Sure there are a bunch of nice, laid back individuals but the assholes and morons outnumber the normal people by a wide margin.

And that second video is nothing short of hilarious. If I heard my mom doing that I would probably just walk off the ice, but if I was anyone else it would just crack me up. doogie24 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 And the first one looks a lot like Chedoke Arena in Hamilton, but I'm not 100% sure.Thats Medway Arena in London, Ontario. I live about a block away from there, It's where I grew up playing. Apparently it was a AA game from the 11-12 year olds, Kitchener and London. Ive been reffed by that guy that got into it with the parent, whats funny is that he was one of the LINESMEN, as the guy in the Orange arm stripes is the only referee. HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 I saw some asshat yelling at his kids coach the other day. These kids can't be older than 9 or 10 years old, and this guy was yelling at the top of his lungs right outside their locker room. I didn't hear much other than something about his plays being bullshit, and he didn't want his kid to play because the goalie and the defense "suck ass." Or maybe his kid was the goalie, I dono. Pretty classy thing to do though bud. The coach kept his cool though. Not sure how.
dahonam 3 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Thats why I didn't become a ref at one of the local roller hockey rinks in my area... They get so much crap from people for no reason... I used to go drink with a couple refs after our games and they complain about parents trying to jump them in the parking lot, etc...

I have played in New York, Vermont, Canada, and now in Florida. I have NEVER seen moron parents even close in numbers compared to normal parents. I can only surmise that the areas you live in have, in general, a population of morons that overwhelmingly outnumber normal people by a wide margin.
greech 4 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 You should come to Boston. It's horrible, everyone thinks that little Timmy is going to the NHL some day. Assaulting a referee just disgusts me, we had a really good ref from around here end up in the hospital after a beer league player jumped him coming out of the penalty box. Assaulting a referee just disgusts me, we had a really good ref from around here end up in the hospital after a beer league player jumped him coming out of the penalty box.Vicarious living through their kids. We have a guy in one of our regular sessions that coaches his son's house league and talks about it nonstop in the locker room. He's a nice guy and everybody likes him but no one can stand to hear him talk about his son's league all the time and when he does, we always try and change the subject. Was at a pick-up game last week and was talking to a buddy of mine on the bench (he was next up) and there was a guy coming off screaming at the top of his lungs, CHANGE!!!! CHANGE!!!!!!!! I'll find someone else to come out!!!!! My friend and I just looked at each other and laughed as he went out onto the ice. He comes back from the shift and says, "my wife was right when she told me that you guys are all frustrated old men." I thought that hit the nail on the head. A lot of guys pick up the sport later in life and that one night a week when they can score that gerbage goal with no one playing defense is heaven to them. I'm not trying to be derogatory, as this is better than getting drunk at a bar but I think this mentality carries over into their kid's leagues. Guys working crappy jobs, with a mortgage, taxes, just going through the motions with their wives because there's no spark left and Johnny's hockey game on Friday night is the most important thing from keeping dad from grabbing an automatic rifle and going postal.I can be one of these guys too at our pick-up games but I try and tell myself that even if it sucks right now, I'll be playing again next week and it might be better. I live in the east end of Montreal which is known as a pretty tough area. I mean the Hell's Angels used to have a bunker there! But the hockey parents, though boisterous, are more fun-loving than anything. The problem is that when particular parents get abusive, all the focus falls on them and the rest get lumped in with them. This topic reminds me of an anecdote from when I as a little kid around 40 years ago. My little brother and I, aged 1 year apart played together, and my father was coach. Our defenseman got a misconduct penalty for cursing at the ref. My father benched him for the rest of the game. After the game, the kid and his father (who was a really tall ex-football player) came up to my father who was expecting the worst. My father explained why he benched the kid. The kid's father told the kid to apologize to my father for cursing. I don't know if times have changed or what. But why couldn't all parents be that way! eric42434224 1 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Exactly. A few (and I mean a FEW) bad apples spoils the bunch. Too bad there are people who make knee jerk statements.Want to see crazy parents? Watch a soccer game down here in south FL with the Jamaican, Hatian, and Cuban parents........makes a hockey game look like the chess club.;)
durke 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 As a parent to two young boys that play hockey, is all I can say is scary. I just hope they grow up to enjoy the game of hockey as much as I have. RecLeagueHero 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 This seems to have become a standard part of all youth sports, from what I've seen little league baseball is probably the worst. I think a huge part of it is parents that have gone into this mode of assuming that junior is going to the NHL at age 7 and thus every game becomes something that could make or break a multi-million dollar contract. The more youth programs create the notion of existing for the purpose of pure competition, elite teams, and so on the more this gets fed into.
