RBK socks

Recommended Posts

Love them.

I have been spending a lot of time trying to buy equipment with good ventilation. I would simply run out of steam by the third period due to overheating. I cut up my undershirts. Switched to the 8K RBK helmet. Swapped Underarmor skull cap for sweat band that fits in helmet. Swapped shoulder pads from tank like to cheap and cool. Then yesterday I tried the RBK SOCKS.

Every step I took made a big difference. Yesterday I was surprised on how much cooler the RBK socks were. During warm up you actually feel a cold breeze on the thighs. This cold goes away quickly as you warm up but the difference in energy levels as the practice went on was noticeable. The less you sweat the more fluids you have and more blood in the system not being wasted on keeping you cool(look it up).

The only question I have is why didn't someone do this earlier. Wearing the old LEG WARMERS is great if you are skating circles but when playing hockey leg warmers are the last thing you want. When looking at the new socks vs old it's like comparing old leather helmets vs the new ones.

Go try them. You will love them.

Weird, I didn't really notice any difference with my EDGE socks. I even opened the leg zippers on my pants, and maybe twice in 2 hours of stick and puck time did I feel any breeze through the socks. Even in the thigh area where they're ventilated. For me they're just more expensive socks with a RBK logo on them.

As far as durability, they get cuts in them a lot easier than wool socks do. I've got a slice in mine, and when it happened I don't even remember being nicked by a skate.

I got a pair of Phoenix ones off ebay. I can't say I notice cold air as I skate with them, but I am also not dying to get my socks off as much after a game.

I have only skated a couple times with mine, so I haven't had any durability issues yet. Seems like they would be easier to fix if you wanted to.

great socks... some durability issues though. These were the first (and only) socks I'll use however, they do tend to get cut easily. One pair that I had got tore up when some idiot kicked me but, my other pair got ripped for no reason that I can see . However, they lasted me the full season (2 pairs, 1 each for home and away) and are defiantly a lot lighter then the cotton socks.

I can see these things getting cut up pretty fast. I think these are a step in the right direction thou. I think it's only a matter of time before these socks take over. I just hope the other name brands start making them so the price starts to come down...

As stated by most here, there does seem to be a quite a difference in ventilation from the old style socks. However, this difference becomes less notable the longer you wear the new style. Another plus of the edge socks that they don't shrink when you wash them.

As far as durability goes, cuts and tears will happen with both versions. IMO the edge socks tend to look a little worse for the wear at the end of the season, but I can't say that they actually are less cut resistant. They do seem more prone to smaller scuffs and marking though (I suspect this is likely due the the difference and thickness of materials). Minor cosmetic issues aside, I would get another pair.

I've been using mine now for about 3 weeks maybe on the ice 10 times. I like the edge much better and will probably never go back to regular socks. Socks get cut up no matter what, If your RBK edge socks get a cut, sew em up like the pros do. Buy some thread, needle and you tube a video on "how to sew". It does not have to look good, just hold the cut together. Like I said, so far mine are holding up just as regular socks would but I also play in a non check, beer league.

I just recently got a pair of these bad boys and I'm hoping to try them out soon. My CCM socks have been torn to pieces with barely any ice time so I hope these stand up a bit better. I've read in several posts on here that they are bigger than the pro stock versions (which have no velcro) so how do guys keep them up with just the one velcro tab? Any ideas?

You can get the garter belts or you can tape them up. I have the socks with the one piece of velcro but, I also tape mine up because I find they slip down on the back side.

I've got a pair of Phoenix pro stock and they're great. They're definitely lighter and thinner and give a little more airflow than knit socks (not a massive amount but it's noticeable). I use Easton jock shorts w/ velcro so I just sewed on some large tabs of velcro to the front/back of each sock in the area that it would normally attach to the jock... I used the large 2" wide velcro and between that and a roll of thread and needles I'd say it cost about $5-$7, not a big deal.

As far as durability goes, they definitely get sliced and chewed up pretty easily, this is where that roll of thread and needle comes in handy once again... I just try to sew up any slits as soon as I can to try to prevent them from getting any larger. When I got the cosk they had a couple slits already sewed up by the equip. manager so i figured I'd be doing the same in no time.

Overall I'd say they're a great pair of socks, especially if you play in warmer rinks since they breath better. They were definitely worth the $30 I paid for them... now if I could just get my hands on a pair of yellow Bruins pro stock socks.

I don't think your going to have any problems. I've found one Velcro tab in the front is all you need.

There is one Velcro strap on the front on the sock(non pro version). Plus if you have Velcro on the back of your shorts they will cling to the back of the sock a little.

I tape the shin pad with one piece of tape also. So there is not a lot of force pulling down the sock. But that said the Velcro strap on the front of the RBK sock is tank like. They even give you a Velcro guard so when you are not wearing the sock the Velcro doesn't get gummed up.

on my phoenix pro ones, i haven't had a problem with my itech jock shorts. The velcro grips enough. I put a loose loop of plastic tape around my thigh just to be safe.

I have a pair of Caps home socks.. it happens to match with the jersey for my beer league team. When it came from the monkey it had the soft side of velcro sewed to the sock and the rough side attached to that. I sewed that part onto my shock doctor jock/compression leggings. I find that is enough support to keep the socks up. I use a girdle and that also helps me keep my socks up. I feel that I wouldn't need velcro at all because the girdle provides enough tension on my thigh to keep my socks up.

I've worn mine three times and they're all cut to hell. There are a few other brands making alternative socks, though I have yet to see anything that's exact.

Who else makes them? How much do the other brands go for?

I wear mesh socks made from the similar material as goalies jersies back in the days - nice big holes all around for ventilation, light, don't retain water + tight fitting so I don't even need tape

after a year there're no cuts at all!

funciton over looks ;)

joking aside they look good to me personally (looks are subjective) - just like regular socks, some AHL use them, from about a meter away you can't tell the difference

I use pro mesh fabric: http://www.usahockeysocks.com/custom_fabric.shtml

the challenge is that they need to be of exact size because polyester doesn't stretch that much so too small & you can't put them on, too big & they'd look like crap because of the the excess material

I have an old pair of black mesh from Pear Sox that are still in perfect condition five years after I got them. I usually use them in the summer when the rinks get s little warm.

I play beer league so mine are holding up good.

Pear sox and K1 both make them.

+1 for Pear Sox.

They only have one velcro strip, but IMO it works with the jock shorts ok. Garter would be better, but it's functional.

They shouldn't be more than regular socks. The mesh socks from Pear Sox are available in Sr (30-32") and Intermediate (26-28") sizes and only in solid colors. Reaaaal comfy though. I'm 5'6" and wear the Intermediate size.

They need to make them with velcro in the back.

That was one of my suggestions to them. It shouldn't be a whole lot to add it. Hopefully they pay attention to customer/retailer suggestions.

I just bought these and used them. They are very nice. They look good and offer far more ventilation then the traditional socks. My only complaint is they are very expensive.
