looks like a mod. might just be a piece of plastic or dense foam. Ovie probably takes a lot of cross-checking there.

could be wrong though.

That won't protect against crosschecks. Probably to help protect from impacts with the boards or on his checks. Most guys who want protection from cross checks will opt for something similar to what Thornton and Axelsson have worn, an additional pad that is attached to the bottom of their shoulder pads.

Did the Flyers have their WC jerseys on last night?

Looks like they will be wearing them full-time next year.

Awesome. I was talking about that last night, how I hoped they would revert to those jerseys full time (orange/home white/away). Much classier.

watching the Caps game right now and i notice one of the linesman is wearing U+ skates! I guess the NHL won't like that.

theres been one in them for ages now. I think they're more concerned with getting their officials to wear skates that allow them to do their job.

On a different note, Hossa is using a Vapor XXXX stick tonight, and the Versus announcers have said something to the effect of him trying to find some more or have some made for him.

Wonder if those are his repainted Missions…

I was thinking the same thing.... I remember a few of them floating on eBay that a member here was selling. I wish I grabbed a few.

Refs are permitted to wear whatever skates they want. The "black skate" thing is largely due to peer pressure over the years at lower levels.

The ONE95 was the last Canadian-made retail skate. Once they did all of the skates for 2009, the line was shut down.

wow, isn't that great... something we should ALL be proud of. Of course, "designed in canada"... last time I checked 12 year old Thai children don't design skates.

IMHO just shameful, I'm sure I'll get slammed in the forum for this but whatever... someone had to say it

Not slamming you, but by "designed" I think they mean the 10-12 canadian guys making mock-ups and discussing the technology to be included in the skate. "Made" and "Designed" are different words.

Watching the BC BU game at fenway, a few of the BU players are wearing x60 gloves in their all white with red trim. They look pretty sick.

Vesa Toskala doesn't want to get his new pads marked up apparently... Trying to figure out what model they are, they look a little different than X:60's...

Do you think Bauer was confused when he called them up an ordered new pads? It's not like his other ones were used to make any saves or anything....

I think its kinda funny how some of the BU players have new, bright white gloves, but some of the older ones are starting to turn a nice shade of brown. Seems like quite a few of the BU players are still wearing the NBH 4-rolls, and some are wearing new bauer branded ones.

They are exactly the same pads he's always had, with different graphics.

edit: Or rather, not quite so exactly. He's finally allowed them to take off the purely cosmetic shin-rolls and toe-cap, and the top of the thigh isn't tapered the way his old ones were. They're definitely not RX9's (despite the graphics), but they also aren't quite his usual Heaton 10 fare. Interesting.

In a moment of weakness, Kiprusoff tries to steal Gilbert Brule's blingy new UA mouthguard right off his teeth.

I went to some games this week in Washington, Philly and Boston and when i was at the washington game it was Ovechkin's first game as the captain. In the rink they has sticks for sale and they wanted $499 for Ovechkin's used stick, they didnt have any at the time but they did have one of his with Fehr's number on it for $199. They were selling green and semin sticks for $299. The next day i went to the philly game and those WC jerseys looked really cool. At the rink they had a little booth set up, where they sold all the used gear. The sticks and gloves were way over priced, cheapest stick was an Asham for $175, the gloves were selling for 125,150,175 and 200, under the counter they had a box full too but i couldnt see them all. They had a pair of Carter's from last year that were beat up and had holes for 200. They had some pants, nice elbow pads like easton 700 and jofa 9044. The skates were the best deal which they were selling brand new vapor xxx for 125 and brand new one90's for 125. They just didnt have blades but most of the skates were 125, i almost bought a pair of Couburn's skates, they were brand new one90's the boot was super stiff and they didnt have blades, but i thought it was a great deal. They were size 12, im only a size 10. I was a little dissapointed when i couldnt find any sticks or gear at the rink in Boston. It was the best game of the three even thought Savard got injured 30 seconds in.
