The Messier Project

Recommended Posts

Just got a new issue of USA hockey magazine and there was an add in it with a pic of Mark Messier that said protect, perform, evolve and a website at the bottom.

The Messier Project Obviously its a cascade project that has mark messier involved but take a look at the site. Under the section "the captain" there is a pic of messier but i can't tell if the helmet he's holding is this new one or the old one.

Anyone seen this thing yet... i hope it's not as ugly as the other cascade helmet

The Cascade CHX tested awesome but didn't look sweet in the mirror. The Technology and testing is why Mark got involved. He was a major part of our product design team to make sure the look and performance met the needs of the elite player. We think the look is right on! Check out the new M11 at http://www.themessierproject.com/the-helmet.html. Let us know what you think!!

I think it looks good too. Hopefully it fits my head good. Been having a hard time finding something that fits my head as well as my Bauer 8000.

Does look better than the CHX... Wonder if it will be less gigantic-looking on. Looks like they may have done a bit to improve the ventilation, too (much-needed IMHO).

The M11 will sell for $119.99 for helmet only and $139.99 for the combo. Look for it in stores September 15th.

Is that the US, Canadian price or both?

Has this been tested for compatability with various cages? I'm asking because while I like the helmet I've had now, I've had it for a while so it may be time to look for a new one soon, but I'd like to keep using my Itech Titanium cage. I know that it can be used on most helmets, but there are some exceptions (I've read that it won't fit on the Bauer 9500 for example).

Chadd, JR? Any comments on this helmet, now that it is out? I would like to hear some informed thoughts and you two seem to offer good insight.

This is the first I've seen it. I like the concept behind the padding, but my biggest questions are about the venting and consistency of manufacturing. The older models were very hot and the fit varied from one helmet to the next. It looks like the only sizing adjustment is at the back of the head, so I'm not sure how many people will be properly fitted in this helmet. Having a one piece shell is great for reducing concussions, but it doesn't allow for a wide range of head shapes. Mission learned that lesson with the Carbster.

So wait? They asked Mark Messier to help with style of a helmet? After years of wearing this bucket he'd have been my first choice...</sarcasm>

I had an Itech cage on a Bauer 9500.

These are US prices. Also, the helmet is designed to accompany any mask.

The sizing adjustment in back works to wrap around your head. Instead of adjusting only the length (used on most helmets), we feel that this helmet will fit a greater variety of head shapes and sizes.

We appreciate all of your comments and feedback. Keep em coming!

It doesn't change the size/shape of the shell. Any change would just leave empty space between the interior and the shell.

Looks closer to the Easton helmet in my opinion. Much better than the CHX for looks. I'll definitely consider it when it comes time to get a new helmet. Right now I'm rocking in an Easton S-17 though,( less than a year old) and I love it. How's the ventilation in the new M-11?

I really like the look and the concept.

One question I have is how does it compare as far as weight goes?

I use the RBK helmet now, it pretty light. I've had a few neck injuries and weight matters for me.

One other question, how well do the vents work to keep your head cool?

At this time the only cage that can go on and be CSA approved is the Cascade.

Remember if you put on another manufactuer and get injured and you feel it's the helmets fault there is nothing you can do if you have an old Jofa (or any other type) cage on there. (In Canada anyway)!

I saw the helmet the other day. It's very, very light. It was a medium, I wear a small so I can't really comment on the fit yet (I'll be seeing a small soon).

It did not look as god awful as the previous Cascades, that's for sure.

Cascade is a quality company putting out quality lids, and I'll support them any day of the week. I use a CHX, and I love it. Can't wait to give this helmet a try.

I honestly don't understand people griping about the CHX's aesthetic. Honestly, it doesn't look anything out of the 'ordinary' in context of any other helmet on the market. I get it though, we see the same thing in Skate, BMX and Moto...most posers prefer fashion over function.

My issues with the old ones were quality control and the fact that they were extremely hot. Hopefully they worked out those issues as well.

I agree Chadd...the CHX is hot, but other than that, I love it. It provides an insane level of protection. My comments weren't directed at you, moreso to the people that bag on this or any product without actually having tried it.

Understood, and I didn't think I was the subject. I just wanted to put some of the more valid criticisms of the product out there. As I've said since the first time I saw the product, it has potential. Hopefully they fixed all of the problems and not just the aesthetic ones.
