My wife, 10 year old, and me. The good bit is that they seemed to have an ok time. As for me, basically I'll summarize as "I spent $4k to learn that I never, EVER, want to go on a cruise". Holy crap did that suck. Trapped on a boat jammed together with 4k people in a floating Vegas Casino. Noisy and crowded everywhere, at every hour of the day. Oh, and for the first time ever in my life managed to get motion sickness. Which is still fucking me up even now, ~12 hours after I got off the damn thing. There were some good parts. Two of the onboard restaurants were nice, seeing the Kennedy Space Center was cool, and riding a Segway for the first time in Nassau was fun. But that good stuff pile is pretty small compared to all the crap in the "holy fuck, I PAID for this?" pile. Now I'm sitting here at home with the weebly wobbles or whatever the hell and I'm wondering if I'm going to even be able to skate tomorrow. And I missed fucking Winterfest for it too. Tell your friends: Cruising. Not even once. Mark I love cruises. I always have something to do. Lots of choices. I meet cool people. Leaving on one on Saturday and can't wait.

On my own rant: Holiday-Season hockey has been a nightmare. 6 of my last 8 games have been forfeits by the other team. All but one of them were done via the "Don't tell anyone and just don't show up" method of forfeiting. A few have been 11pm or later games where we don't know we won't be actually playing until we are already dressed and ready to go on the ice... There is also no penalty or disciplinary action done for forfeiting a game so... Teams will continue to do it. I have two games this coming Saturday (12/23) and am just waiting to hear that the other teams cannot get enough skaters.

Totally in shock and scatterbrained. I guess better this than a long painful decline. First symptoms to letting him go was all less than an hour apart. Vet said about a 20% chance of recovery from THIS incident, and said he could almost guarantee it would happen again and soon. We were lucky to have been there with him to say goodbye. Can’t even imagine what it would have been like to have come home and found him. As for your other vent, I feel your pain. We can’t get anyone to show up. We started our last game with 5 skaters and had 6 to start the second period. We have about 20 on our roster, but maybe 5-6 that actually pay for the season up front. I guess paying per game makes it easy for people to just not show up. Am I the only one that plans their life around my games? “Sorry I cant go, I have hockey that night.”

I have been in your shoes with a couple of the Collies... It's just heartbreaking. I really feel for you. Again, there aren't really words when a part of your life/family suddenly isn't there anymore. It just sucks, plain and simple. I am right there with you, I plan pretty much everything around my hockey schedule. Very rarely will I not make a game unless I am significantly ill, or I had prior obligations that cannot be avoided or delayed. Fortunately, the teams I play for are mostly comprised of similar-minded people. It blows my mind that some of these teams have 20+ players on their roster and cannot get 10 to 12 guys to a game. But, even if you have to forfeit, at least let the other team know so they can save themselves the late-night drive to the rink and loss of sleep. badger_14 601 Report post Posted December 30, 2017 The EMT I'm regularly partnered with has gone from 'slightly difficult to work with but that's life' to 'outright hostile' and I'm stymied on how to deal with it. She was gone for a few weeks (death in the family, I sympathise, I do), then returned and now won't talk to me (except to accuse me of wrongdoing or find fault), or even acknowledge me. (she does cheerfully greet and converse with other employees btw) I'm not asking for deep meaningful conversations, but could I at least feel like we could safely communicate on a call? Last time I worked with her, she hid the work laptop (we have one to record calls/patient info on) and accused me of losing it. This doesn't seem to be improving and the overlords have only suggested I just talk it out with her, which I'm not sure how to do when she won't even acknowledge a simple "good morning". I'm all about ready to just tell them to change my shift entirely, because it's absolutely untenable. (and I don't think it's me - considering everyone else I've worked with, as well as folks at the hospital during clinicals - seem to be perfectly fine with me.) Ugh. fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted January 8, 2018 Got a message from my parents on 31 Dec, that my grandmother had passed away. She was 95. That was the last day she was going to spend at the old folks home. My parents were going to move her to a hospice the following week so that she could receive more specialised care. The doctors had already thought that she had another year max to live, but her health was deteriorating fast. The last time I saw her, in my heart I felt that it would be the last time I would see her. She didnt recognise me then, and wasnt answering any of the questions I had asked her. I live in Australia, while my parents and her are in Singapore. I wanted to fly back, but my dad told me that her wish was for her grandchildren like myself to not return as it was a big inconvenience. Yesterday was Day 7 after her passing, and in the Asian culture (and I think others as well) there are beliefs that the recently passed would always try to communicate with you. I got a message from my mum that a large brown and white moth had landed in her balcony. And to which I recalled seeing a brown and white butterfly in our yard yesterday.... and we never have butterflies in our yard. I remember it flying around me a couple times before flying off. When I told my wife about the picture my mum sent me of the moth, my wife said she had also seen a brown and white butterfly in the garden at church (two blocks away). I told a colleague of mine about it, and she told me that these things happen, where the recently passed tries to tell those they have left behind that they are loved. And she also told me that I didnt have to fly to Singapore, as my granny flew to me instead. RIP Mama... I love you. 7

Did you pay respects at the funeral or wake? She is harboring resentment? Or is interested and she is frustrated because you are not available or not stepping up . You need to go out for lunch on a day off . Ask what did I do or what didn't I do . How can I fix it .

Your Mama ,when her body shut down ; the soul was released back out into the ether where the energy that connects us all grows . The energy that is with in us is our soul. This give us much of who we are, skills we just have. When this energy permeates our bodies I'm not sure . I believe it's at birth . The experience of being there when a soul leaves the body I Wii never forget. Felt like an invisible ripple then a sphere of energy taking off . Butterfly and such were carrying that energy

We were not that close that I could have gone to the funeral- I only worked with her one day a week. I did express sympathy, sure. The ultimate solution- because she would literally not acknowledge even a "good morning"- was to change my shift.
jlt73 160 Report post Posted January 15, 2018 Being a landlord is great when everything goes well.... Especially when the rental property is 2.5 hours away. (I owned the home prior to moving) I just had a tenet abandon their lease which ends at the end of April. I only found out they moved out from looking on Facebook as they are really good friends with my cousin. According to the property management company I use, they haven't paid rent for December or January, pet fees for their entire lease, late fees and they are 3 months behind on the water bill. They are unresponsive and refuse to call the management company back.

I'm going to offer a settlement just to recoup some money, but if that doesn't work out I will take them to court. The max I can sue fort in small claims court is 6000. They will have a judgement against them, but I will probably only recoup very little of that money.
