hayley wickenheiser vs. dane phaneuf

Recommended Posts

Of course Dane didn't fight back afterwards, if he had he'd find out what the legal system does to men that dare defend themselves when women attack them. Even if it is a woman in her 30's assualting a teenager because he played a little rough. Personally, I think it's funny as hell to see a teenage boy stick the face of women's hockey into the boards like nothing doing.

Much like his brother, he put himself in position for the hit and ignored the puck.

"It was a move that would make even New Mexico's Elizabeth Lambert proud"

hahaha

Wick needs to man up a little there, a little rub into the boards and she freaks.

On little Neufs defense (and I hate defending anyone associated with Dion) the boys play contact all year round and then play a game with no hitting, a little rub out is bound to happen.

I don't get why this is even a thread, outside of the "big" names involved. This exact same play happens in any level of recreational hockey all the time.

Player A plays too rough for a no-contact game, player B stands up for himself (herself) and shoves/facewashes/whatever player A. One or both of them get roughings. Who cares? She hardly throws a "hissy fit" or "freaks out" or "attacks" him. Hockey players make hockey plays. Yawn.

"Hilarious" retorts to the incident that will be posted:

"I don't know why she's playing hockey and not cooking for me"

"It's just a like bitch to start a fight while she's wearing a cage"

"Is she hot?"

"I have self-confidence issues and the internet, please god pay attention to me"

It's relevant because Wickenheiser wants to play with men at the pro level, but yet can't handle a little contact from a 15 year old boy, even if he is Dion's brother.

he checked her in a non-check game and she face washed him. it's not like she yanked him down by the ponytail. ;)

all she did was show him that she wasn't just going to roll up and take his crap. good for her.

We have a pair of girls on our Boy's Varsity hockey team who can dish hits out with the best of us. They seem to take contact in an ok way I don't really see why she would freak out like that. Yea the rules of the games are different but I really don't like it when women hockey players freak out over contact.

Surely you're not serious.

Certainly an over reaction on her part. Grabbing him like that just made her look silly. It would have been better if she just gave him a little whack with the stick, or a little shove.

Doesn't she play in mens pro leagues in Europe or is that some other women? I mean anyone would be a little pissed if you get hit when you expect there to be no hitting, but shouldn't she kind of be used to plays like that?

I think she played in the Finnish elite league for at least a season. She can more than take care of herself. She's not upset at the contact, but the circumstances, I assume.

Of course I'm serious. She's just another over hyped female athlete that may be "good for a girl" but can't manage to avoid a little bump by a 15 year old kid. It's not like he lined her up and delievered a bone crunching open ice check, he bumped her into the boards. She may not have been expecting it, largely because she skates with her head down like 99% of female skaters, but a rational adult would have laughed it off. Then, in a hysterical fit, she attacks a teenager from behind like a coward. Again, even if this was a 30 year old man attacking a teenager no one would be laughing it off, because adult men are expected to control their emotions. A 30 year old woman pulls this crap and it's funny, she's a fiesty dyke, and so on. If I were a woman I would find the suggestion that this sort of behavior is funny patronizing. It's really no different than when we laugh when children or dogs become upset and over react, it reflects the lack of expectation of the ability to control oneself.

...especially with the circumstances being that the Olympics are coming up really soon and it would be really unfortunate for her to miss them because of an injury from a totally unexpected and unnecessary hit.

Only having a couple seconds of video doesn't tell the whole story. There easily could have been other interaction earlier in the game.

What some of you fail to realize is that Wick is the " face of womens hockey " in Canada. Do you think back in the day when Gretz was playing a warm up game for the Olympics if some younger guy rubbed him out along the glass he would not react in the same way ?

What happened was just a player looking to get noticed, I think the Phaneuf label had nothing to do with it. Because she didn't get injured, there was no recourse. Just another example of the ignorance of some people towards womens hockey, they are people too and deserve the same credit as us guys do.

I've seen this before... in adult league some lady was looking for a rebound and i just boxed her out of getting to the goalie after the goalie covered it, like anyone would do. and she starts swinging at me for just a simple little nothing. i havent seen her since, she doesnt play there anymore. but she told me she was going to kick my ass. for just protecting my goalie

No. He wouldn't. He would realize its an exhibition game.
