Kevlar Sock

I like it! Really, it is a great idea.

The hockey socks on that site look interesting too. I wonder what they look like IRL?

Damned expensive though.

After seeing pictures of Richardson's injury last year I imagine he'd pay any amount out of pocket to help prevent it from happening again. Imagine the back half of your foot right above the Achilles hanging off, it was gruesome.

I think I might try this thing out. About 13-14 years ago, I got cut in my leg from a skate that needed stitches, thankfully it didn't cut anything inside. It was still a pretty deep cut and took a while to heal up.

Unfortunately, we can’t wear them because they’re not Reebok

I dont get that, is he just saying that to keep Reebok happy? Surely if they're not visable hockey socks it wouldn't matter..

That appears to be answered in the comments:

Steve… The sock that Darren was referencing — the non-Reebok sock — would be the outside hockey sock and not an “under” garment. The yellow socks they’re wearing ARE under the hockey sock, but the one he’s talking about wouldn’t be allowed, because it’s the very outer sock and, thus, needs to be Reebok-provided…

I'm seriously considering this. It says on their site that shipping is free for a limited time only.

Question is - which size? The sizes overlap:

Men's Small- 8-10

Men's Medium- 9-11

Men's Large- 11-13

Men's X Large-13-15

I wear a 9 shoe. Do I get small or medium?? I'm thinking medium, but I can't really try these things on.

you'd get small. the general rule with overlapping sizes is to get your actual size near the middle of the range. so if you're a 9, 8-10 would be suitable for you, over 9-11. unless, of course you have wide feet, then you'll need the extra volume that the 9-11 can provide.

It's funny, I was just talking with my dad about this the other day. All the new socks kids are using and even the NHL ones are so thin and light they get torn to shreds over nothing. The old cotton socks would rip but no where near as easily. This is a great idea and hopefully will get adopted more, or incorporated into the socks themselves.

I don't have wide feet, but I hate getting socks that are too tight, since that cuts down circulation. I'm worried the small may be too tight. Maybe I'll give them a call for their advice since every manufacturer is different.

damn, i cant wait to have conversations like that with my son. all my dad ever wanted to talk about with me was war stories. how about putting these on underneath the team issue reebok socks?

off topic: where are you playing spring league this year? 8 of us from last year's team (im sure you can figure out who) are registering a new Div. 1 (div 2 for winter) team starting spring. if you're into it, pm me.

skarbro: the socks will most likely be based on a size 9 shoe. which is why i suggested trying to line your actual size up in the middle of the range... but if you feel more comfortable calling for info, thats probably a good thing to do.

Thanks for the advice. I e-mailed them to see what their return policy is if it is too tight. I think I should be getting the small too, but just want to be sure.

If these are standard U.S. sock sizes, then the numbers correspond to the length of your foot in inches, and has very little to do with shoe size or skate size. Just get a ruler.

We met up with the Tactics guys in Vegas. They were unaware of us, understandably, as they are a new company.

The sock is neat. The Kevlar outer sock is pricey though. We'll see where that goes.

I ordered a pair of skate socks last night, got the same message that it will take 2-3 weeks because of heavy demand. I've never been cut by a skate but the price isn't that far from the Vapor socks I wear now. The hockey sock is another story. $75 is just too much for me but it is a great idea to be protected to the thigh area with kevlar. I have 2 pairs of Swift socks and never knew there was kevlar in the back. When I originally received them I almost cut out that material for heat purposes. How much longer til jerseys are made from kevlar? I think that material is the future of pro sports.

I ordered the skate socks almost 2 weeks ago but didn't get a "high demand" message. Maybe demand went up after this thread was posted? Lol

I'll post when I get them.

I'll be interested to see some actual photos and info once someone tries them out.

There website is godawful to navigate and doesn't have much useful info on it. That stupid flash movie is useless and annoying.
