CCM U+ CL Skate

Recommended Posts

comfy out of box - this was the biggest problem with them.

moved eyelits back

reinforced parts of outside between toebox and rest of skate. we've had a couple pairs where it fell apart on the reloadeds. not a big problem like how it has been on easton, but it still existed.

make skate actually not look like shit.

redid tongue to a mix between the pros and reloaded. pretty much they are like the TO's (in terms of comfy to me, and size) but they don't have the reflex tongue part of it.

all around the CL and the 12 are a HUGE improvement over the past. Compared especially to the pros, this is night and day. compared to the reloadeds its like sunset and night.

Pardon me but what do you mean by that?

I think he was refering to the dropping of the Tacks line which was the go to quality skate for a wide foot for so many years.

As relates to this skate I like the cosmetics and the specs sound promising. I just hope it pans out because without Ovi I almost wonder if even CCM could have survived the issues thay have had with their last few years.

Besides being comfy out of the box haha it doesn't seem like there are too many improvements over the reloads?

yeah no major differences besides fit

i just found our catolog; reloadeds compared to CL/12

Same inner core (u foam)

same quarter package (vector armor.. the golf ball stuff)

same liner materials

same outsole

3 layered custom footbed - pretty damn nice

pro style felt tongue on u+, CL/12 have new armour tongue. its a less thick felt tongue basically with a nicer u foam to it.

they added a layer of poron foam and ankle reinforcement around the ankle. and it has an even tighter heel lock. not as severe as the s17 but its a lot better than the reloadeds. the added some mesh stuff to the outsole to make it breath better. and there's a 'bumper' between the toe box and the quarter/mesh stuff which basically is their thing of saying we're not sure if this skate wont break, so we added this to try to make sure it wont. Strangely enough, the step-in comfort stuff is the first thing they mention in the catalog. quite funny actually.

basically the biggest things that people complained about with the reloadeds they address in the CL/12.

And for what sublit said about pissing off clintele, he might be reffering to the fact that ccm year in and year out for a while has been absolute a horrible sell and its hurting shops by carrying their gear. ofcourse he'll have to answer that one.

I see what you're saying, beeing a Tacks fanboy myself. Sad to see them gone, oh well...

Forgot about that. Besides the footbed, the tenon guard was my only other concern with the reloadeds.

Never had any issues with the tendon guard on the reloaded. Footbed...are you referring to the insoles? I use superfeet for that. My only issue was the volume in the upper. Other than that...a fantastic skate.

Tendon guard just seems a little flimsy compared to bauers. I was referring to insoles lol. They are so thin. I have flat feet, so would superfeet be ok?

I thought the tendon guard on the reloadeds were better than what I saw from Bauer before the Total One. The One90 was a disaster and they got better with the One95, but the reloaded tendon was better than both of those. It will remain to be seen how the reflex tendon guard on the TOs will hold up.

As far as the insoles...I have never been a fan of any stock insole. I started with shockdoctors, but they are a bit thicker than I like so I switched to superfeet yellow and love them. With a flat foot, I would recommend a custom orthodic for ultimate comfort. It is a custom fit and in most cases covered by insurance.

Thanks man, sounds like that will help a lot. Unfortunately I won't be skating anytime soon as I'm pretty sure I tore my ACL

Damn bro....that sucks. Was it because of flat feet? Flat feet typically causes leg inversion...and puts more pressure than normal on the ACL. I studied sports medicine as a minor in college. Typically...solved with custom orthodics.

No clue. Had a knee on knee collision two weeks ago. It wasn't the first one either. Orthopedist said today he's pretty sure I tore it. Getting an MRI next week

I was back on skates 2 months after ACL reconstruction surgery. I wasn't playing, but I was skating and pushing myself pretty hard. Roughly 6 months before I was back playing.

First month is pretty tough...first week is brutal. You get through it though.

I think I'll build a rink this year then.

Have been given the kind opportunity to test the new CL skate> skated on them once last wednesday. First impressions of them are excellent so far. Definitely improved heel hold over the U+RL and the reduced wrap has the pleasant effect of allowing increased knee bend (I still leave on eyelet open tho) Most impressed with the feel of the tongue on the skate> most comfortable one I have used to date> no issues with lace bite and overall feel (the molding feature is the bonus) Flopper and non floppers will both be happy. No first try forefoot pain either (like I had on the RL) Will be a nice counter part to the 11K for the Company and a alternative to those who enjoy the Vapor line of skates (IMHO)

Are they going to sell these for $150 more than the previous ones?

you're looking at a canadian MSRP there.
