Pretty interesting branding proposal for the Jets new uniforms. I'd be thrilled if some form of this look made it to Winnipegs final uniforms.

Is it me or does the primary logo look too much like Toronto Maple Leafs gone red/white/blue? I think the red jersey and logo look much better.

you won't be surprised: all the cup winners from the past 10 or 11 years (including the Bs) are all either red or black as their main color. Except Colorado in 01.

No color at all.

The proposal looks very well put together.

Not so keen on the logo, though. With all those points, edges and detail, I feel like I got a paper cut just by looking at it.

is there not enough navy blue and red in this league already?

Despite my enjoyment of that proposal and how nice the designs are, I think the red/blue combo is the most overdone one in the league. There's a ton of teams that use a format of it. I understand there are only so many colors to use and some just don't work on jerseys, but there has to be a different color combo than that.

I personally think they are some of the better looking uni's in the league.

The logo is VERY sharp, love it.

I too get the Leafs vibe from the logo and a Blue Jackets vibe from the colors. In a vacuum they are very nice jerseys but I don't think they work in the NHL as it is now. Is it confirmed they will be the Jets? I was pretty sure that the Coyotes still own the name not to mention I figured they would want to go in a different direction on the name to separate from the franchise that left.

The NHL owns the name "Jets" and offered the name and logo to True North on day one, and, at no charge.

True North however has come forth with concerns on the Jets name, most notably that Phoenix recognizes the former Jets history and retired numbers, so how does True North move forth with the "Jets" name?

Semi off-topic, but didn't the Ravens and Browns have a similar situation, or did Baltimore vacate all that history? I know the Browns picked it back up when they came back. Just not sure if the Ravens treated their history as if they were an expansion team.

Ooh, tough situation.

So that means if they really wanted to, True North could call the team the Jets and set their players up with the numbers 9 and 25 right away, huh?

They haven't come out and said this, obviously, but I think another reason they might be hesitating to go with "Jets" again is that a tonne of people already own Jets jerseys, and might feel like "old logo, but same name, I don't need a new jersey." While if they go with something completely different, it could mean more merch sales.

The NFL gave the Browns the name back w/ their history. I used to think it was wrong but have changed my stance since many hockey clubs in various city's keep the name going. Think Houston Aeros, San Diego Gulls, etc...

I'd say the history issue should all but seal the deal on not naming the new Winnipeg franchise the Jets.

"Teemu Selanne set his rookie goal record with the Jets, no not those Jets, the other Jets, yeah, the ones who aren't the Jets anymore, not the ones who are the Jets now."

Actually...you're wrong, sorry to say.

And while Daly told the Winnipeg Sun’s Paul Friesen that the NHL won’t stand in the way if the team chooses to purchase the Jets name back from the NHL, he made a very good case for breaking away from the Jets name:

Daly, in town for meetings with True North Sports and Entertainment, saw some of the possibilities for the team name, but wouldn’t divulge them.

“I know a little bit more today than I knew yesterday,” Daly said. “But I don’t think that decision’s been made, yet. Part of the presentation today was going through the team identity and the possibilities there. Mark (Chipman) still has a lot of good options in that regard.”

While the NHL owns the Jets name and is willing to give it to Chipman, the chair of True North, Daly points out the team’s competitive history, including team and individual records, belongs to the Phoenix Coyotes.

“One of his concerns about the Jets’ name and identity is that he really doesn’t own his history,” Daly explained. “The Phoenix Coyotes, if you look in their year book ... their franchise records are all players who played for the Jets. And they’ll continue to have that. They maintained those rights when they relocated from market to market. He hasn’t indicated that pushes him away in any material way, that’s just a point of fact.”

I don't get how this article would prove me wrong at all? It states the history issues as one hurdle with the Jets name, which I agree with. I was just stating that another reason, which they obviously would not explicitly tell their fans, is that going back to the Jets name would mean a lot of fans already have appropriate jerseys, while going with a new name would mean everyone would have to buy new jerseys.

What happened with the Ravens and Browns is that when Modell moved them to Baltimore, the name stayed behind and the team became an "expansion" team. Then Cleveland got an expansion team and assumed the Browns' name, logo and records. The inverse is what happened with Minnesota with the Gunds. They sold the North Stars to get the Sharks.

I think your reading it wrong Junkyard. I perceived that they haven't said the idea that he is stating, not the one that you are.
