What are these wild Bauers?

Recommended Posts

Saw these funky colored Bauers in the stick rack at the LHS today and had to take a pic with my cell to ask you guys about them, or rather the colors. The top one is an X:60 and the bottom one is a TotalONE, and the colors are just different.

I believe those were explained as the demo sticks to show flex points and other features. Surprised they are selling them.

I believe they are sales rep pieces to illustrate different aspects of the stick's technology.

I believe your right there. There was a video on youtube about them, can't remember who it was buy. I think the red was supposed to illustrate where the stiffness of the stick was? Not fully sure though if that's the reason or actually accurate flex points, but definitely cool sticks.

They are Bauer's demo sticks that were used to show shops/buyers a visual representation of the sticks's kickpoints using colors that represented either stiffness or flexibility. The yellow color represents a "softer", more flexible area. This is why you'll see the lower kickpoint on the X60 and a stiffer center section (and hence why the X60 seems stiffer than rated). The One95 (or TotalOne in that picture, there was also a One95 colored like that) has a stiffer lower third to the shaft, which is depicted as the red color. This moved the kickpoint up into the softer 2/3rds of the stick, hence the mid kickpoint. The in-between shades of oranges and pinks are obviously where stiffer areas are becoming softer and the opposite.

Explained by Bauer's stick line manager Evan Baker in this video:

Good idea, but slightly flawed. The X60 shows the kickpoint being ultra low and in fact the color shows even the beginning of the blade as being "soft". This goes against their idea that the Pure Shot technology they offer prevents the blade from flexing and torquing. I also don't think that the X60 flexes anywhere NEAR that low. Same with the Total One there: it's blade is yellow, indicating that it is a very flexible blade? Once again, against their supposed technologies.

Yep, just aids to illustrate the tech.

I have had quite a few customers actually try to buy one, though.

Same, here's hoping they'll listen and offer something like that on a top end stick. If not for anything, just for shits and giggles. Definately would turn some heads on the ice.

i would definately rock that yellow totalone.

i miss some of the different colored sticks. i feel like mostly everything is mainly black/white/grey these days.

They looked marked for sale with the sticker on the blade so the shop must be trying to sell them rather than display the features

Sticker is an Bauer SKU.

No, the colors are different to show the contrast.

Then why did they put the little "color key bar" on it indicating that yellow is softer and red is stiffer? Why not just make the blade black?

Regardless, a very cool idea by Bauer. You can explain things all you want to some people, but a visual representation of the technology is very handy. Not to mention their stick with the blade that has the outer layer "stripped away" so you can see the internals.

Evan just emailed me -

The yellow and red zones do apply to the entire stick, and are indicative of the carbon fiber layup in the stick, NOT the core.

The blade wrap on the X:60 is stiffer because of a lower kick point - it helps with torsion. The Supreme blade wrap is softer because the kick is higher.

Copy Ghostrider.

I love finding out the little details that never make it to the public. Tell Evan thanks for us.

On a side note, Bauer is such a better stick manufacturer than I used to give them credit for. I used strictly Easton for over a decade because of their technology and superior product. But Bauer's made huge strides. I now bounce back and forth mainly between a tapered One95 shaft, standard One95 shaft, and rarely an RLXN10. Great stuff, Bauer.

I don't know for sure if they were for sale or not, the stickers on the blades aren't price tags. But they were sitting in the stick rack with the other sticks though, so in a way it looked like they were trying to sell them.
