Yeah, lately he's began taking more of an interest in the stick itself than what I'm doing with the ball. He just wants to run up and bite the shaft.

My dog goes nuts if he is around when playing around stickhandling, etc. I think he is terrified of the stick and/or the sound of the ball/puck, plus he wants the ball/puck for himself. He is a 16 lb min pin - chihuahua mix, so he is wound as it is.

My one cat Wendel (named after Wendel Clark) likes playing bottle cap hockey on the kitchen counter tops! My other cat Tucker (named after Darcy...) isn't phased, but will occassionally slam himself into my legs or my stick.

My cat, Freja likes to wrestle/be spun around with a hockey stick. I can toe drag her sometimes. No interest in chasing stuff, though.

Sadly my shelter dog cowers and slinks away when I carry my sticks (or broom for that matter). We don't know what his past was, but to him someone carrying a large stick is no good.

That's how our rescued dog back at my parents' house is.

My dog, a black lab, is fun to play hockey with. She'll go to the net when I'm shooting outside and bring back tennis balls that I've shot and I also play keep away, bouncing the ball on my blade and shell jump up and grab it in midair

My dog is not very "fetch" oriented, but he bounds around and play-bows when I'm stickhandling around the patio. When I'm shooting pucks he just plants himself directly in my line of fire (and he's not a small dog) and looks at me sideways, like he thinks I've gone completely 'round the bend.

Occasionally he'll nab one of my gloves if I take them off to retrieve pucks, but he has the attention span of a gnat and drops it as soon as he smells something more interesting. (like a squirrel).

My beagle loves to chase the ball when I stick handle. Just be careful with two things. Don't smack him on the nose, it will happen accidentally and don't give him a puck to chew on. I thought it was so cool that my dog would love to chew on a hockey puck, but the rubber is poisonous or something because my dog threw up several times before I realized it was the puck that was doing it.

Our one current dog, Jack, does the same thing. Our old aussie on the other hand, used to love playing catch. I would gently shoot tennis balls to her and she would catch them and bring them back to me.

My dog is absolutely fearless around a hockey stick. I'm afraid I'm going to bust open her nose so I really don't play hockey with her anymore. Less vet bills = more hockey gear

If by pets, you mean toddler, yes :)

Although many years ago when my roommate and I were playing in the house with a street hockey puck we hit my beagle in the eye pretty hard and it swelled shut and the eyeball was drooping. Incredibly scary. Luckily it was just a bad bruise/strain and with some steroid cream and pain pills she was fine after a couple weeks.

There's also the video of a (very scrawny) Kabanov playing with his dog:

It's sad to hear... but happy that you've given him a fresh start. It could get better with time and a lot of love. Our shelter cat is almost like a completely different animal than the jumpy, skittish cat we adopted. Best of luck to both of you guys.

My beagle named Buster used to love to catch snap shots with racquet balls. He had amazing reflexes. When he got older we took him to the vet and he had a broken tooth, probably from me shooting balls at him. So be careful.

Yeah I have a Labradoodle and he loves hockey more than treats, walks, you name it. Over the years he's learned the command "pass". He will literally pass the ball with either his paw or nose directly to the stick. When we play on the road in skates he never picked up the ball he would bat it ahead with a paw or his nose and try to keep it away from us.

He also broke a tooth jumping for balls that were shot. The vet just had to remove it so he's missing a front tooth, it's fitting since he loves hockey so much. He runs so hard for balls hes torn the pads off of his front paws. The vets prolly think we beat him, but he plays too hard.

My dog loves playing when I stickhandle. I go in between the legs flip it up and juggle on the blade and my dog jumps up and down, cutest thing ever
