Best/favorite "compression shirt" to wear under your shoulder pads?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I need a new "under armour type shirt" for Christmas and I was wondering what brand/model is best.

I was looking at this Reebok:

http://www.reebokhockey.com/apparel/products/performance/product/lite-right-compression-ls-forearm-griptonitetm/

I like the compression fit by the way.

There's also the under armours and bauer vapors, just not sure which to get.

I've only used reebok shirts so can't speak for others. I've had mine(rbk's) for a year and its holding up really well.

I don't think any brand is significantly better than the others judging by the fact they all use similar materials.

Is the one I have a link to in the first post the same one you have?

I've used Under Armour long & short sleeve heat gear. I feel they work great. The one exception is the long sleeve one needs to be the hockey specific one ( I believe there are a few different kinds.). My elbow pads slide without the grip on the shirt. I've also used a couple older Nike ones & they were OK but didn't keep me as cool.

Ive used both rbk and under armour compression tshirts. They're about the same although the under armour ran hot when I was playing inline.

I have two Under Armour compression fit shirts. No complaints. Heat gear is way too much so I prefer the lighter weight. Anything long sleeved is nice because it keeps the elbow pad straps off your skin.

I've been using WSI stuff for years. I still wear my puckskin from time to time but I always go back to my WSI stuff.

nike pro. been using it for about 3 years. before that i was all over the place. everything else either retained too much moisture, was too hot, too heavy, etc. nike pro is a great balance of weight, moisture management and breathability/heat retention.

Stupid question but what is the difference between a tight moisture wisk-away shirt and a compression shirt? When I think compression shirt I'm thinking of something that will help stablize(sp?)joints and stuff.

The best quality so far has been the Bauer Vapor Premium short sleeve. I also have some Under Armor, Reebok and Nike brand stuff. Out of all of them — the Nike stuff seemed to fall apart the fastest.

really, I've had many as well and Nike has been the most durable. Under Armor has been the quickest to fall apart in my collection. I still love my old nike blue and navy one with the three bubble vents in the back.

Thanks I'll check those out

TPS R8, nothing fancy, does its job

C9 by Champion's long sleeve mock turtle. $15 at Target all day long. The keep me slightly warm, and wick away moisture extremely well. Couldn't be happier.

I'll check both these out.

thanks for the help

I really like the TPS R4 one piece better than any other pant/shirt combination I have tried. I kind of feel like a goof putting it on but I prefer the feel of the material (nylon instead of polyester) and being on piece there is one less thing to keep track of and the shirt won't ride-up. The cut is perfect for me too, short arms/legs and a wide neck.

I may just wear nothing under my shoulder pads - I'm trying to do everything I can to reduce heat. Will this help? Or will the armour stuff actually cool me down?? Hard to believe...

I get REALLY hot when I play and I've tried a few compression fitting shirts (nike, UA, generic) and they all made me too hot.

my advice, don't waste your $ unless you're cold

I'm the same way - does anyone actually get cold playing hockey?? Is that why peeps buy those shirts?

I go with long-sleeve UA HeatGear shirts, two sizes bigger than normal. I find that gives me the perfect balance in terms of fit--still has some compression, but not choking. They have held up great over multiple seasons and I have no trouble with slippage of my elbow pads (Jofa's).

Do any of the long sleves not get too hot?

I wouldn't mind trying one to help the ocasional elbow pad slip. But I get hot in in a C9 shortsleeve (from target) with Sherwood shoulderpads. Granted the rink I currently play at seems really warm all the time.
