vapor x:60 stick quality

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Long time reader... don't post very often. I was hoping to get some opinions...

Has anyone else noticed that the high end Vapor stick lines go back and forth between extremely durable and extremely flimsy? I've been a dedicated Bauer stick user since the XX through the X60. It seems like every other release either compromises either durability or performance. Does anyone else feel like that?

I've been through about 4 Vapor X60 and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I've been really surprised how long x60 lasted and surprised how my totalone didnt last me that long at all. Then again the x60 was retail and totalone was prostock if that matters at all.

although the stick has amazing feel and performance, i've found the blade to have really bad durability and i see a lot of the reviews say similar things

Where are they breaking? Shaft or blade? IMHO the shaft breakages shouldn't be as common as they are in the OPS that are of true single piece design like the Totalone.

I've had my X:60 for over a year. Only recently has the heel of my blade started chipping and sound like it might be cracked on the inside. Even with the chip and unpleasant sound it makes, it hasn't affected my shot or handling...yet. Then again I only take wrist/snap shots and the only abuse my sticks usually take are from other people hacking or from blocking shots.

I have an X:60 that was an OPS cut to tapered shaft with a Dolomite blade, and it shoots strong and balanced exactly in the middle, maybe you just shoot harder with a Vapor stick?

For some reason my One95 I baby a lot more and usually only use on penalty kill situations or D and don't go crazy with it I guess

I just broke my 2nd x60 in 3 weeks, both on routine slappers fromthe point. First one lasted 2 months and the second lasted a matter of 7 days

im probably not the only one asking, where on the stick did each one of them break?

First one I had was a 60 flex cut to a 67. It broke the first game due to a slash. My warranty replacement was a 67 cut to a 78. Its lasted a year now while taking a pretty good beating. Still has nice pop too. BTW...The P14 curve is absolutely amazing! Snap shots fly off the blade like crazy! Im glad its a retail curve now. Try it out.

consider going with a significantly stronger flex?

67 flex can probably be snapped in half with no effort.

Stick breakage is not necessarily due to an improper flex, but rather:

- An accident

- Poor form

- Others with aggressive stick use

Moving up in flex will not make any of those things better.

So if Zdeno Chara is given a 115 Flex stick and a 67 Flex stick and takes 105 MPH slap shots on both, they will both equally perform durability wise?

First one was about a foot Up the shaft and the second was almost right on the fuse point

The fuse point is at the blade for most "true" OPS, including every top end vapor since the XXX

So if Zdeno Chara is given a 115 Flex stick and a 67 Flex stick and takes 105 MPH slap shots on both, they will both equally perform durability wise?

If he used an appropriate shooting form for each stick, yes. If you have shitty form and try and put every ounce of strength into shots with a whippy shaft, it will break. That said, I don't believe it is possible to generate 100MPH shots with a 67 flex stick. They're great for wristers and snappers, not NHL-topping slapshot velocity. Just like a 115 flex isn't ideal for wrist shots, it's all about using the right tool for the job.

I just laugh when I see the kids that are 5-10 and weigh a buck thirty that "need" 110, 120, etc flex sticks. They just don't know how to shoot.

Apparently Brett Hull used a 65-70 flex? So its not necessarily due to the flex. I thought the first stick was to whippy anyway. Im 5'4 144lbs, so I have to use an intermediate. I find when I cut down the 67 to around 78, I get nice pop on snapshots. Which is the shot I take 90% of the time.

Also...to avoid starting a new thread...Can anyone tell me what difference(if any)there is between the new grip-tac and the old stick'um? Im thinking of ordering a mybauer x:60, and I have to use the grip-tac. I think Im gonna get that breast cancer color since boobs are very valuable.

On my x60 I saw a diagonal line about a foot up the shaft that went against the weave pattern and I assumed it was the fuse point. Thanks for the knowledge chadd

Thanks all for your feedback. It looks like I am one of the few having issues. And FYI - the stick is breaking anywhere from the base of the blade, to about a foot up the shaft.

Thanks again.

My first vapor x60 (67 flex, int) lasted a while. I had it a year and a half before the heel started to go soft. I'm now using a senior 77 flex for two months, so far, so good.

I've always felt that the Vapor series sticks were garbage..

I'm biased though..I've always liked the last 2-3 Supreme line of sticks better

From personal experience, I've gotten the last 3 bauer sticks when they came out, and used them until the next one came out. (one95/60/TO)

None of them broke. None of them got flimsy (one95 did get that way recently as I used it one night and took 3-4 hundred slapshots) but none got flimsy while I was using it as my primary stick, using it in games ~3 hours a week. So I literally got 140-150 hours of game us with each of those sticks, none breaking.

The last stick I broke was before that, was a vapor30, and broke because some asshole decided to land on it. The x60 sticks aren't garbage, there are just too many people using them that are in the wrong flex, or wrong shooting technique, or something. Great example, on local HS team, there is one kid, who is leading scorer who is constantly hacked and slashed and gets the puck most out of anyone on the team. He has been using x50s and x60s all season. He has broken 2. There is another kid on his team, who has about .25 points per game, and doesn't see much ice time. He's gone through individually our entire supply of one curve/flex in the x60 then TO. I think he's at like 7 brand new ones, plus the ones he has broken that he got back under warranty. So that's roughly ~10-12 sticks this kid has gone through. That means hes in the wrong flex, or just doesn't shoot right.

depends, when i break my stick its usaly accident, such as blocking a shot and the composite snaps, think i broke maybe 5sticks MAX while shooting, in those 5 they were 3 reebok 10ks

My x60 broke about a foot up from the heel today from blocking a shot :(

Not sure what to buy now because I bought it used for $100 from my friend about 3 months ago and don't want to spend more than $150 on a new stick. Thinking maybe x40, anyone think my game will change much with that? I absolutely loved the x60.

After a year of use, my X60 is finally starting to go in the blade. Chipped heal and sounds like its cracked on the inside. Starting to flub shots more since than. I only taking wrist/snap shots so I never break sticks out of my own volition.

I've had my X:60 for about a month and a half. I've noticed that the toe of the blade is starting to chip. I'm kinda surprised as the stick hasn't seen a whole lot of abuse. I've taped the toe since I've had it, and while I realize this doesn't make the toe bulletproof, I figured it would give it a little bit more protection. Anyone else having issues with the toe of the X:60?
