"For Display Purposes Only" Stick Question

Recommended Posts

I won a stick at a raffle at my rink...it was at the Captains meeting for the Adult league. If you paid your teams full fee early, you get entered into a raffle, and can win prizes. There were cash prizes and a few sticks. I won a brand new Bauer x60 stickum stick. I specifically put my own money in (over $1400) to cover the fee early to hopefully win something.

When I got home I realized that it wasnt stick-um, but the regular smooth finish. Then I realize that it has "For Display Purposes Only" on the stick, and it has no serial number at all. So it is obviously the stick that was in the display case at the rink pro-shop.

So I called Bauer, and the rep couldnt really say without seeing it, but he said if it has no serial number tag, and it has "For Display Purposes Only" it is not a retail stick, and suggested I not use it on the ice. But I couldnt get a straight answer on what exactly the stick really is. Is this a legitimate x60....or is is a lesser model painted as an x60....or worse, is it just a display stick that shouldnt be used at all?

Does anyone have any knowledge (Perhaps indusrty insiders or LHS owners) on what exactly this stick is?

Thanks!

Pics?

I brought it back to the rink and the league director said he would talk to the pro shop manager, and he asked that I leave it there.

He seemed genuinely unaware it was a display stick. The stick looks the same as the x60 except it isnt stickum version as it says on the stick, it has no serial number tag, and has the "For display purposes only" label on it.

You can use it just fine it just won't have a warranty.

Not the question. I know it wont have a warranty, and Bauer said I shouldnt use it on the ice.

My question was "what is it?" Hopefully someone knows so when I talk with the rink I will have some answers.

My guess is they will answer like you did....its just fine...use it.

Then it breaks and I have no recourse.

Based on what our display sticks have come in, its the same as any other stick on the shelf. Except when they were making it in the factory, it got selected for display stick. So they either drilled holes in it where it needs be to drilled (to hang it up) or in your case, was painted to look like something else. From experience its probably an x60. However you probably dont want to use it, although you would be fine imo to do so.

Hopefully he's planning to ask the shop manager to replace it with a retail stick.

I wouldn't have left it with anyone, unless I was getting another stick right there on the spot. Now they can make it "disappear".

I know the leauge director. It wont disappear.

It usually is a blem.

I remember seeing the X:60 display case and it said PM9 and it was a P88. The graphics were off as well. There is a reason why it is marked "For Display Purposes Only."

That being said, I believe one of the rink employees took it afterward and it didn't break on the first shot. There isn't anything that they can tell Bauer to get a warrantied stick out of it. That's why it is marked as such.

Other mfgrs send display racks without the product; that would mean you bought the product and you can put one of the store sticks in the rack.

That stick was in the original POP display when the X:60 stick was launched. One of the shop guys used it. He liked it until it busted on a slashed.

What he said, my buddy had one from his shop and it said it was a PM9 as well and it was actually a P92.

Well that's just ironic...first batch of X:60's my lhs had, PM9 actually P106.

No I meant their sample. Like you know, they have the whole cutout thing beside the stickrack or whatnot.

Oh, well I stand corrected. I guess just the way it was worded confused me.

Let me get this straight, you are complaining about a free stick?

No, the stick isnt really free, as I put in $1400 of my own money a month early for the team fee to have the chance to win an x60 stick.

Only to find out it isnt a retail x60 but a display stick. No warranty, no stick-um, unsure if the curve and flex are accurate....or if it is even an x60.

Do I not have the right to know what I won? If the stick is not what we were told it was, do I not have a right to question it?

My advice is don't make a big deal out of it - how much interest did you lose at today's rates by paying a month early? Not much. You have a legit gripe but since it cost you very little to enter the drawing you don't want to be known as a PITA around the rink.

Just take the stick out and give it a whirl. Maybe it will last you a little while, maybe it won't. Next time you'll have a look at the raffle stick beforehand and if you don't like it don't pay early.

Well the stick wasnt shown until after the raffle, and it isnt the cost...it is just being able to know what I have. If the final word from the rink is that it is a legit stick, and that there is no alternative, I will go with it.

Im not being a dick here....just trying to find out what the stick actually is. If it is a legit stick, Im cool with that. My concern is that perhaps the pro-shop didnt want to give a real stick, and gave a display model that might not a real stick...just a painted mock-up. In that case, I have a right to say something....just wanted to be sure. And I did it in a nice way...just asked to be sure it was real.

Posting pics here will probably get you more info than you will get from who ever you left it with

You're kidding right? There will be a couple posts from guys like JR or DS50 that actually have a clue, and 20 more from people just making wild guesses with no actual information. Plus, the five posts or PMs from people looking to buy it.
