CROSBY TO RETIRE?

Recommended Posts

Crosby is back tomorrow against the Islanders. So big that CBC has picked up the rights and will show the game.

Versus was supposed to show Boston/Montreal. They are switching to Pens/Isles.

Boston/Montreal would be a far better game, unless Crosby happens to have the superstar effect negatively affect his team and the Islanders play competitively.

yah same thing here north of the border, CBC which hosts hockey night in canada on Saturday's, immediately picked up the game and is having a special "monday night hockey night in canada" to show Sid's return.

not that surprising - could you imagine the uproar if they didn't show it and the only way you could watch it would be on center ice?

with how obsessed canada is with crosby it doesn't surprise me at all.

Two goals, four points so far in his first game back! Still 16 mins left in the game too. Looks as good as ever, love to see him playing like this!

furthering on CBC, they opened up "The National" which is across canada news coverage with Sidney Crosby scoring his first goal...

That was alot of fun to watch. I dont think my girlfriend had a dry eye during the first little bit of the game, especially when he scored.

awesome game all around, great to see him back.

Sid looked strong. His first goal made quite a statement. I had to turn the game off because the announcers made it into "The Sid Show". McGuire kept gushing on and on about him to the point I thought he was going to jump over the boards and service the kid on the bench.

Sid is a big part of the NHL and has alot of pressure on him but lets not make the entire game about him.

It's so overboard, I refused to watch Sportsdesk this morning and and that's the first time I missed it in over a year. Great game on his come back but come on, he smashed a basement dwelling team with a a back up keeper in net. I'd like to see that vs Philly or Boston. Basically, I don't mind him but the media is killing this kid for me.

I understand, to those of us who follow hockey regularly, it got tiresome. The NHL had to market his comeback HARD!

With all this talk and concern surrounding head shots in the NHL, for him to come back and look 100%, they had to talk about him and how well he played to help shut down some of these people asking for the NHL to do something about head shots and concussions.

Another reason has to do with the american market and the opportunity the NHL has right now. With the NBA in the lockout, the NHL needs to take advantage and with Ovi not living up to his hype this season, they need Crosby to return and be the face of the league again.

The media get excessive but this is huge for hockey and sports in general. We are really blessed especially those of us who live in the city that can afford to see games live.. really. Sid is the 'great one' of this generation, the bobby orr, the rocket richard, the babe ruth, whatever you want to compare him to for this generation of people in this sport he is it. It would really seriously be a tragedy if his career is cut short like Lindros or others.

I'm glad Sids back. Not just because I'm a Pens fan. I'm glad he's back because friends of mine who root for teams like Carolina and San Jose were pumped that Sid is back, he transcends all teams to just fans of hockey in general. The 'haters' don't know what their missing..

"Sid is the 'great one' of this generation, the bobby orr, the rocket richard, the babe ruth"

In honor of mack, this would be considered a "Sid-gasm."

I like Crosby. Especially after seeing 24/7 on HBO last year. But the fact the way the league is shoving him down your throat is excessive. imo. He is one of the greatest players in the league & I understand you had to make his first game back a big deal. I just hope we don't have to see Pittsburgh every other night on VS. On the NHL network Monday night they should of changed the name from "NHL on the fly" to "Sid on the fly".

I can't believe so many people are surprised by the coverage... it was an exciting comeback, so of course everyone is going to be talking about it... what else would they be talking about? it's just another day in hockey... a few days later, and folks will move on...

Damn, he's playing dirty as hell tonight. Two-handed chop to trip a guy, a couple slashes, a spear and some after the whistle action and all before the end of the second period.

not too surprised he is feisty - when you have to sit out for that long i would imagine it wears on you.

then again he never was an angel to begin with

Watching this game reminds me of why I usually don't watch them. Though the announcers are actually being way more honest than usual. How does Orpik not end up in the box after every shift?

this is the first game this season that orpik has been throwing big hits - dunno why he hasn't been - but i cant remember any..

and usually the announcers are pretty big homers from what i remember
