New Elbow Pad Recommendation

Recommended Posts

I am in need of new elbow pads and have no idea what to even look at. I have the old Bauer 5000 elbow pads from like 2001ish, proir to that i had a pair of really old bauers that were small and not bulky at all. I am looking for something for an adult league level player that isnt bulky at all and not restricting. I wouldnt mind wearing something as a wrist guard in addition to the elbow pad if its short.

So what do you recommend?

I heartily recommend Bauer TotalOne elbows. IMHO they're the most comfortable, lightest and unrestricting retail elbow pads available at the moment. They're not cheap but If you're as picky as me they're worth the money.

I like the Warrior Projekts, but they're sized a bit large so most people have to go one size down from their usual size (I went from medium to large). They're very light, mobile and comfortable though. I did have to get the middle strap resewn on mine since the stitching started coming out, but it's been fine since it's been reinforced.

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago, still had the Easton Z-Airs from my college days. After trying on every major brand elbow pad out there I went with the Warrior Projekts. Very comfortable and lightweight, like you're not wearing anything. Only thing I would change is the fact that theyre white.

Dying them prevents this?

No, but it is harder to see with other colors.

I like the new warrior elbows as well. For me, they are the new gold standard.

I really like the warriors as well. I just don't understand how color makes them more or less desirable. They get sweaty no matter the color. Considering the inside is blue I don't understand how a white exterior hides sweat stains.

With the new Easton RS equipment release (in the states) you should be able to find S19 elbows on closeout or on sale. They are very lightweight and provide lots of mobility.

My recommendation would be to go somewhere and try on every pair you can get your hands on. We certainly are in no position to tell you what elbow pads to buy...because they are YOUR elbows...which are certainly different than mine and everyone else on this site. I wouldn't dare wear anything but Jofa pro stock 9177s...but that's my personal preference...so I wouldn't expect you to follow my recommendations of a particular type or brand. Find what's comfortable for you.

I'm really impressed with the Synergy 700s I got for my brother. They seem like a low-profile elbow with really solid protection and a terrific fit; the joint is locked in nicely with negligible impact on mobility. His Jofa 5044's were solid pads, but these are a definite improvement -- in part because he crushed one of the caps.

Should have clarified, they get yellow sweat stains very easily and I wear my sleeves rolled up on the end of the elbows pads. Very visible, especially when wearing a darker jersey. Not a big deal, but the fact they they're yellow after a month isnt exactly a positive point for me.

I will also sing the praises of the Warrior Projekt. I like them so much that I just picked up a second pair on ebay.

It wouldn't hurt to give them a try since they are on clearance right now at most of the major online retailers.

My Jofa's are sliding around now that the velcro is worn out. TO be honest I am not really sure if they ever fit all that well. I may have to try the Warrior's. I was also thinking the 11k, total one's, or the Warrior's as well.

Warrior Franchise. Picked up the shin pads the other day and was very tempted to get the elbow pads. The Silver Shield liner is amazing.

Good fit, good range of motion? How is the protection?

Fit is not as snug as some of the other offerings, such as Total Ones, but far from being bulky. Range of motion is great, restrictions are not even noticeable. Protection seems great, though without actually wearing them on the ice, it's hard to really comment on them.

anyone have any suggestions for elbows that stay in place? My elbow pads always fall down by mid second peroid it drives me nuts. I have s19s. even with the " x lock" they just fell after a few slappers. My old elbows did this aswell they were old bauers. I want to try and get something that will stay in place. any suggestions?

I'd guess you need to go down a size if none of them stay in place.

I had s13's with that x lock system. IMO those were the worst strapping system. I use the RBK/Jofa branded stuff now and they work perfect. I also have a set of the Reebok 10K's (now the Reebok 9k) and the strapping system on those are pretty good. They fit nice and snug. I agree with Danno, you might have to try a smaller size as well.
