Recommended Posts

Google led me to thousands of useless items, as the topic states.I'm looking for basically a "second skin" ultra thin sock to use in my hockey skates. Please advise..

Thanks,

Well I feel the first thing that the community needs to know is do you wear socks? And if you do, what socks are you wearing? That will help to set a direction on where the should be coming from.

I used to skate in dress socks.

I started using Thinees Sani-Sock to skate in and now use them as dress socks in a pinch

Question to those who use dress socks. Does your foot slide around inside the sock or have the sock twist at all? The dress socks I use are very smooth and I wouldn't think they grip well inside of a skate?

The ones I skate with slide when your feet are dry, but once you start sweating they stay in place pretty well. I haven't had any issues with twisting or having the sock move on me.

I have had two pairs of Wigwams (model no longer made) for over 3 years and they are still holding up.... I find them to be the thinest pair I have tried.

I have bought a half-dozen of other brands and the closest I could find were Easton Synergy skate socks. They are a bit thicker than my Wigwams, but not by much...

Currently I use the Wigwam LINER socks. They are super thin but slide down soon after skating..(within 10 mins or so) The moisture wicking properties are great, but I need something that can withstand all that calf movement, and STILL have enough elasticity to maintain stability. BroadSt Bullies: I'd LOVE to go barefoot, but the sweating in my skates bothers me too much.

I have yet to try a good pair of dress socks. But I certainly will...

EDIT... I have NO blister issues, or punched areas. NOTHING that needs attention. GREAT skate fit, EXCEPT in thick performance socks. I'm on the very cusp of "too small of a skate." In other words...perfect!

WOW...I would think that if you need "grip" to hold your foot in place, your skates are too big. Regardless of the sock or without one, my foot doesn't move at ALL...

I would certainly suggest SUPERFEET yellow for those whose feet seem to "move" in their skates. They really help lock in the heel and snug up the overall feel...

I had this problem with a pair of Vapors that were about a 1/2 size smaller than what I normally wear. I found that anything I wore that was not cotton let my foot slide around slightly inside the boot, but I couldn't find a cotton sock that was as thin as I needed. I found the answer one day while shopping with my wife. The women's department has very thin cotton socks that worked perfect for me, and the smaller size let me pull them tight without the heel traveling up the back of my foot. Inexpensive too.

I've never had this problem. I've used both all natural fiber socks (cotton) and synthetic blends without issue.

Yes.....and no. Unless you go custom you will always have negative space inside a retail skate. My questions wasn't so much about foot movement inside the skate, but the sock actually twisting around the foot because the material was so smooth and no actual "compression" spots. Obviously, your foot moves/flexes/changes shape inside of the skate as you move. My questions was whether a dress sock stayed in the same position with the foot or tended to twist/slide.

But it sounds like that's not really an issue for most people. I've used the Easton Synergy socks and now am using Stable 26 socks. Love both, but the Stable 26 sock feels more comfortable on my feet.

I wear the Nike Dri Fit soccer socks. Tried the under armor socks too, but prefer the Nike as they are cut for left and right foot and seem to stay in place better.

Dress socks also won't last more than a couple skates and hold up too much moisture.

I disagree. Once again. Mine hold up fine. As long as there isn't movement in the boot, your socks will last.

+3 on dress socks. They just lose elasticity over time, like all socks do. I've switched to going barefoot though. Haven't looked back.
