eBay idiot, or not?

I sell a lot on ebay- I charge $20 to ship a pair of pants in the US......why? Shipping from Florida to Washington state is about 19$. Shipping to, say, NY is $12. A box is $3.49. Periodic rolls of tape. It all balances out to a wash over time for me. I send a lot of pants to Washington that go over the border by car.

A lot of buyers just look at the postage on the package and relate that to the amount charged. They fail to factor in the cost of packing supplies (bubble wrap, tape, boxes, etc.). Some sellers do charge a ridiculous amount for shipping but do they not sell their items for less? Is buying a $90 stick and paying $10 for shipping not the same as buying that same stick for $60 and paying $40 for shipping? I though final out of pocket expense was what mattered...?

With that being said though it would be easier if more sellers charged realistic amounts.

Or, if you don't like what someone is charging for shipping, don't bid. Either report it to E-bay, address it in feedback or best message of all- don't bid on it. It doesn't do anyone any good to pay it and then bitch about it after the fact.

I sell items on e-bay with some regularity. If my shipping estimate is off by more than my expenses I issue a refund. With their new feedback format, this will likely be much more common.

Not hockey related, but am I missing something on this one???

Batcave Doors

Must be hoping for a Casino to buy it.

Why not just charge actual shipping, that's what I do. It can be done and it's no problem. It's not fair to the guy in Flordia to have to pay $20, you are making money off that shipping fee. I wish ebay would restrict sellers and make it mandatory that the shipping charges have to be exactly what the shipping costs. If sellers have packaging costs, then they should be added to the cost of the item. I once had a guy charge double for shipping. He used the free post office pri-mail boxes, charged $8.00 but shipped in a $4.60 flat rate box. When I gave bad feedback, he contacted me and offered to refund my money if I removed the negative. This was (an e-bay violation) as well.

I don't understand why anyone ever bitches about the shipping charge. What difference does it make to the buyer what the shipping cost the seller?? I got news for you - most retail stores make money on shipping too.

If I buy a hockey stick for $100 with free shipping or the same stick for $1 with $99 shipping, I still paid $100. As long as the cost and method of shipping is disclosed at the time of the transaction, there's no reason to bitch? You're bidding on the shipped price of an item, what is the difference to the buyer whether the seller is making money on the item or on the shipping?

And unless the seller lies about the shipping, there is absolutely no reason to leave negative feedback because the seller made money on it. Did you get the item you ordered? Was it for the price disclosed, including shipping? You're got what you bargained for, period. Don't whine.

No, the seller advertised flat rate priority mail shipping, yet charged nearly double. That's deceptive. Once we get the deception out, and get sellers to charge actual shipping, then the whole process will be fair. Why do sellers have to deceive the buyer, the answer is simple to make more money off of shipping. When it actually cost $9 to ship something and they charge $20, that's deceptive. Only people who like to make money on shipping oppose fair shipping policies. They want people to "think" they are getting the stick for $1.
