eBay idiot, or not?

Recommended Posts

I tried to find the old thread for this, but I used to find this amusing so after looking through the search and not finding it, I figured I'd just start a new one.

OK, so the deal (for those not familiar) is that if you find something of "questionable" nature or not, you list it hear and we sort of debate whether or not the person selling it is an idiot or not (or, perhaps, an unreputable person).

FOR INSTANCE: someone once list a Game Used Mike Modano stick (saying it was used by the Stars player himself). Only problem? It was a right hand shot. Stuff like that. Usually, they're just not knowledgable sellers, who try to pull themselves off as experts when they clearly don't know anything about the product.

SO, first up: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7119322831&rd=1

Now, response rubbers (back in the day) used to way something like 500 grams. HOWEVER, according to that listing, this senior length, Response Rubber only weights 285 grams..... anyone here a believer?

I dont believ that at all. I would think it was an error on his behalf. I think the rubber itself weights about 285 grams. I think somone from this board should get it and see if the weight is true. ;)

What's the lightest OFFICIAL weight these days, 385 - 395 grams? So, doesn't it seem likely that there would have been a big deal made if there WERE a 285 gram stick?

Regardless, according to Louisville's website, the rubber weighs 500 grams: http://www.tpshockey.com/display_product.asp?product_id=57

Gotta wonder what they'd do to cut 40% of it's weight.....

likely printed a shaft spec instead of the OPS spec...

The shaft is over 300 grams and the OPS is 495 from what I recall.

THG is a group of online hockey places (such as 1800faceoff, Peranis, HockeyMonkey, etc) that buy in bulk to save on prices as well as as a group they custom order certain items built to their specifications (think high end amatuer equipment at a good cost).

The THG Rubber response is nothing other than that (the normal rubber customized to some specs of their own design) , but still, no way an entire TPS Rubber ops is 285 grams (it's not like the other rubber shaft, the Responce Rubber has a thick layer of vulcanized rubber adhered to the outside of the shaft).

The Louisville Response Rubber can be found on their website at: http://www.tpshockey.com/display_product.asp?product_id=57

To put it in perspective - what's the lightest blade these days? 150 grams? The entire length of the shaft (plug included) would then have to be 135 grams (weighing even less than the blade).

No, clearly something is amiss.

OK, not an idiot, because the maker of this stick knows exactly what they're doing, but MAN, what a rip off: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7120817082&rd=1

Note how the MaXX Enegery looks JUST like a Synnergy (especially the Energy symbol). One could probably even make an argument about the XX being like a Vapor, but I think Maxx came out before that.....

Still, total clone/knock-off.
