Keeping sweat out of eyes/face

Recommended Posts

After trying the Under Armour skullcap which is supposed to fit "all sizes" I need more advice on keeping sweat out of my eyes/face.

Are there any other products that don't make it feel like your head is going to explode? Do sweatbands actually work? I've heard something about rubbing Vaseline on your eyebrows and I think this would help with the eyes, but what about the face in general? Sweatbands? Loose skull caps?

I tend to sweat a ton and I'm in shape. I know sweating is a part of hockey, but my sweat comes all from my head down into my eyes and mouth..

Much appreciated and let me know what works for you

I don't think I can post links to it here, but there are sweat collecting pads that are super cheap. You stick them on the inside front of your helmet. Check some online hockey retailers. HM.

I have the same problem. I went from an S9 to an 8K because the RBK is much more comfortable, but I feel like I get way more sweat in my eyes now.

I leak like a tap. Answer is to buy a miracle shammy and cut it to the shape of the top of your head and fit this inside your helmet ie it acts like a skull cap and absorbs huge amounts of moisture. Then go and buy yourself 4 or so headbands, I use tennis ones. They work brilliantly, after each game I just wring them out and believe me, they hold a lot of sweat. I get 1/2 a cup of sweat out of the headband and shammy after extended trainings. It's even worse when playing inline, sweat wise, and this still works perfectly. I also find a headband helps the helmet to sit comfortably on my head.

And for those that wear glasses, the headband has the added advantage of holding your glasses in place every time you take your helmet off or put it on.

Downside of a headband is you may need to change the size of your helmet. If you are in the top end of the size range, ie you just fit into a medium, then with a headband on it would be a tight fit and you might need to consider going to a large.

I've thought of cutting the headband into thirds and using velcro to secure it to the inside of the front of the helmet or trying No Sweat etc but I just can't be bothered. A headband is quick, simple, cheap, permanent, always works and is easy to clean / wash / maintain.

UA or similar skull cap did wonders for me, on the ice they are sufficient for an entire practice session, for inline I've got to wring them out 2-3 times.

Cut up a old towel up into pieces. 1" x 3.5"

Go fabric store grab 1-3 Velcro pieces.

Stick Velcro pieces inside helmet.

BOOM

It really is that easy.

What type of helmet are you wearing?

CCM U+04 with Reebok 11k cage, I'm going to get a new one in the next couple of days.

This is exactly the thing I'm looking for, I'll try them out.

This is a good idea as well. I'll keep this in mind but don't want to mess too much with the helmet interior lining. I also thought of trying No Sweat but it's another thing to replace after every week or so of play lol.

I "leak like a tap" too. I was definitely flowing the sweat the other night, but somehow no water made it into my eyes. I was using the Re-AKT helmet, not sure if that had anything to do with it.

No Sweats work great, they are disposable and cheap. You can even dry them out and reuse them a few times.

Can't even imagine playing without a No Sweat inside my helmet now. Light night and day.
