Hockey sticks under 150$

Recommended Posts

First, hi everyone !

Looking to buy an hockey stick but and I don't want to pay more then 150$, because I brake them too often. I don't want to trust sellers so I tried to get infos on the web but all the answers were old...

It's hard to sort out the information that I found ! I like wirst shot more then slapshot so I think a low kick is best for me. Thats is the sticks I found so far

Variable flex

CCM RBZ 130

Low flex :

CCM RibCor 30K

Easton V5E

Reebok 25k

Vapor X800

Vapor X90

Any comments ?

Thanks

25k is a solid twig. I liked mine, other than the shaft dimentions, and that it played a little stiffer than I thought it was rated. I have since gone to intermediate sticks.

One stick you didn't list that I believe should get some consideration is the QR3. I used as dt3lt for a while, it was a nice stick, I imagine the QR3 is pretty solid as well.

On the high end at a discount spectrum, sticks like the RBZ Stage2, DT1LT, and almost the ribcor (found it with discount for 160 on one site) can all be had and are good options for you to look into as well.

My $.02 and probably worth as much. Son has been afforded any twig he wants, for as long as he's played. Those have been the top end offerings from Easton, Bauer, CCM, Sher-Wood et al. He purchased himself an ABHS on his own dime, loved it. No idea why he didn't have me buy it. Though using a V9 now(broke his ABHS, was as durable as any) & has a RBZ S2 as a backup, asked for a 3 pack of ABHS's for Christmas. Assume when the V9 breaks, he'll tape up 2 of the ABHS's as go with those.

I think his sisters next stick will be one & maybe mine, I have yet to use one....but Hell, if it's good enough for him.

Anyway, if looking for a sub $150 stick and go through sticks fairly quickly, may be worth a $100 flyer.

Buy a top end stick on sale. Just bought warrior covert dt1 lt on hockey monkey for 140

I second that suggestion! Otherwise, if you need the latest, lots of great mid level sticks out there, as OptimusReim pointed out. Our family is partial to the CCM and Warrior lines. CCM Tacks 5052 has held up well, but it's a mid-kick.

Seconded

Thirded. RBZ 130 is a great choice, but I'd look at the 30K too. Has been our most popular seller since we got them in.

If you're in Canada go to a Sport Chek and grab some Sherwood Nexon N12s for $80 or an N10 for $60 if you can find them in a curve and flex that works. It's an even better deal if you combine it with a 20% off team assist coupon. The N12 was the top of the line low kick Sherwood that preceded the Rekker and the N10 was the next step down.

are the n12 pretty plentiful at most stores? I might chek (ha ha) the one in Windsor out if so.

+1 on the N12. A very underrated stick and if you can find them for $80 or less that's a real steal for what you are getting.

Most stores had quite a few when they started really clearing them out in August, but they've had a few sales since then so now stock is usually limited to a handful at each store. I'd call ahead an ask about specific curves and flexes before going. I can tell you I've called every Toronto area store looking for RH 95 flex N12s in a Smith curve, but didn't have any luck. I did pick up an N10 with those specs and I've come across a couple left handed N12s with the Smith curve. If you're looking for a more common curve then you should have more luck - Statsny, Ryan and Plekanec curves are the easiest to find.

id be looking for the pp09 ryan. their website lists no 75 flex or int available, I might go just to check out in store anyways as I know nothing of how they interface web and store inventory.

another vote for the RBZ 130

been just an awesome stick for me

second to that is a Sherwood T90 LKP

both very solid, let alone for under $130 each

Only problem there is once you start using the high-end sticks it's really hard to use anything mid-level, they feel like an old iron golf club. Smart production/marketing by equipment companies.

I have definitely seen 75 flex sticks in store (both the N12 and N10). In my experience, they have more curve and flex options in store than they list online (both for this and other sticks). The PP09 Ryan is a curve most stores seem to stock - definitely much easier to find than a niche curve like the PP01 Smith.

I agree, never should bought one last year... It lasted 2 months ! Once a year, I'll invest in a 150$ stick... and my backup never brakes but is a pain in the... to play with.

There is no SportCheck in Quebec... but I found a Reebok Ribcor in sale for 150$, is it a good deal ?

If there's something left in your curve and flex you can grab a Warrior QR Pro at Hockey Supremacy for $129.99 - add something else or a $25 $150 (or buy two or more) and shipping is free: http://hockeysupremacy.com/en/shop/product/warrior-covert-qr-pro-stick/. Of course, if you happen to live close to one of their retail locations near Montreal then you could possibly pick it up in person.

It is a current model high end stick that normally retails for $199. It's comparable to many higher end sticks that sell for $300 including the QR1 - it's just cheaper because it's made in China instead of Mexico. It's also a longer stick (63") so you won't have to add an extension if you're tall. It's a low kick point stick. In the Warrior tests it had a faster release than the previous model top of the line DT1 LT and only trailed the QR1 by a few miliseconds (80ms vs 76ms if I recall correctly).

I hear you. I was buying top end for quite a while, and found that it was just not worth it for my level and skill set. $150 or so is the sweet spot for price/performance unless you're good enough to warrant a top end stick - in which case, by all means go with last years top model!

Pro stocks can be good deals if you can find one in a flex and curve that work for you and they're priced at least 50% less than the comparable retail model (you are taking a gamble as there is no warranty on pro stock sticks). Otherwise, clearance models or mid to high end retail models on sale are good options.

If you are breaking sticks frequently you might want to stick with retail over pro stock so you get that warranty. Ribcor at 150 is a good deal. So is the qr pro at that price

Same here. For the last year or so, I used only wood sticks, mostly for the feel. But since the selection is so limited I went back to OPS's and have found that after using wood, the model up from the entry level model feels light as a feather. Was using SW 9950's, now using a Nexus 600. Even at 535 grams it feels so light. For me, the $100-$110 price-point is my sweet spot. A lot of this year's sticks in this price point are sub-500 grams. That's lighter than the original Synergy.
