What is the most mobile elbow in current 10years?

Recommended Posts

I've been using a pair of Itech elbow pads for 10years over. Now it coming to change my equipment.

But I'm feeling that existing elbow pads are too worse at mobility against little former models. Forearm pad is too thicker and too long. Preventing to stretch arms straightly.

How do you think what is the most mobile elbow in current 10years? The meaning of "Current 10 years" I've wrote is that later models which have been used grip rubber strap. So I don't mind your vote thing was not released in current 10years.

In the existing models, CCM RBZ was better for me. I can stretch my arms straightly when I tried to wear it.

I used Jofa 8025/9025 pads for the last 15 years or so and recently switched to the RBZ130s without problems. In all of my prior attempts to find new pads, I had cut off the bicep pads in order to make them feel more like my 8025s, but I didn't do that with the RBZs. Whatever pads you go with, make sure the strap closest to the wrist is nylon and doesn't stretch and the the one closer to the elbow is elastic and does stretch. The strap on the bicep pad, if you keep it, should stretch as well.

My problem... Probably my size is S/small on each models. So it's hard to find my size if my finding was not existing model.

It can be said the same thing for shoulder pads. I've been watching eBay constantly to get CCM Vector or Warrior Koncept/Projekt series etc. Usually it is M, L or XL if I could find. Especially "pro stock" protectors are arguably bigger than M.

In mobile elbow pads which you guys nominated, I felt that 3 piece construction is better for elbow's mobility.

I am currently in the White Projekt's and they are fantastic. That being said they are breaking down and I am searching for a new set of elbows. I am taking a long hard look at the STX Surgeon 500's. I keep hearing great things about them. The only problem I don't have any in stock anywhere close so I will have to just take the chance and purchase online.

hollowicked,

I'm interested in Surgeon 500 too. It is 3 piece design.

But we are the same too at not having enough chance to try it... We have to buy it online if want to try.

I hoarded them. I think I have three brand new pairs sitting in a closet. I also have one pair that I have to fix the stitching on. That's in addition to the pair in my bag, of course.

After trying on every brand and model that hockeymonkey and hockeygiant sell and realizing that none of them were even remotely comfortable I started buying every pair of white projekts I could find.

I agree that the white Warrior Projekts were super mobile and comfortable, however; after a hard fall I discovered they weren't as protective as other pads I'd used. I moved on to the blue and grey versions and while they felt a little bulkier at first (especially the forearm area) they're quite mobile when in use, more protective and they locked my arm in place a bit better (I was also able to move from mediums in the white version to my usually size large in the blue and grey ones).

So in terms of pure comfort and mobility I'd rank the white Projekts number 1 in the pads I've used, but the blue and grey ones are a close second and offer better arm lock (for me) and protection. That's why I horded a few pairs when they went on clearance.

When I was searching for replacements for my white projekts I tried on every top of the line pad at the time and the only thing that came close to the blue and grey Projekts was the CCM CL pads. I found the large CCM CL pads a bit tight for me though and the blue and grey Projekts more comfortable. From the CCM CL threads here it seems that the middle strap had durability issues, but they fixed that in the RBZ line.

Since then the pads I've come across that I'd consider if my Projekt stockpile was depleted are the STX Surgeon 500 or CCM RBZ line. So if you can find a pair of old stock Projekts (size down for the white versions and use your normal size for the blue ones) then they're a great option for mobility, but if that doesn't happen then the Surgeon 500 or something in the RBZ line are likely your best options for a mobile elbow pad.

There actually is a review of the STX Surgeon elbows on this site: http://modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/68407-stx-surgeon-elbow-pads/

I had not read it until now and I have not used the Surgeon elbows. I've only seen them at an event and did not try them on because they weren't my size. They looked like they had potential, but the review points out some issues (sliding, short straps, shallow elbow cup and non-segmented slash guard).

The deeper elbow cup on the blue Projekts is what helps to lock my arm in place better than the white version. Both projekt models have segmented slash guards. I actually found a place that has small and large blue projekts in stock online:

http://www.davessportshop.net/Warrior-Projekt-Elbow-Pad-Senior_p_1955.html

They're listed at $89.99 which I believe was their regular price in the US (I believe they were $109 in Canada). That's probably why they still have stock as most places cleared them out for less.

I'd either go for those or grab some pads from the CCM RBZ line.

Agreed althoma1, the blue/grey projekts were definitely better for protection. I also agree that it was odd that you had to size down for the white model (I also wore a size medium white projekt and size large everything else).

I also totally agree with the CCM CL and RBZ being the only thing that's even come close in comfort. I actually almost bought a pair of RBZ after trying them on in the store. Has to be the top of the line RBZ though, anything less I didn't like.

Actually I take that back, if I recall the top of the line Tacks was even better. It's been a while though. I haven't skated out in months so player gear hasn't exactly been on my mind lately :)

I have been in the APX2 now since Dec. and love them. However the middle strap is loosing its elasticity and not holding like it use to. Soooooo it looks like I'll be needing either another pair of these, or like some of you have mentioned try out the Surgeon 500's

My own personal opinion of the STX elbows is that they were uncomfortable when I tried them on and went through the motions. The elbow cup portion felt very weird, as did the sleeve. The RBZ for me for remarkable, are very light and comfortable, but other models and makes would probably offer better protection/coverage in terms of puck impacts. I love them and wait for them to hit clearance so I can stock up, or find some reasonably priced used pairs.

If it's just the strap, why not fix it up? You could probably sew new elastic with velcro on top of the old one. Then if you pick up a backup pair when they go on clearance, you'll be set for years.

I just snagged a pair of CCM Ultra Tacks yesterday

have been paying in Warrior AX1's previous to this

the AX1's have been great, but now starting to slip

as well I moved into a 15" glove and they are too long now, going into the top of my glove

the cuff now hits the elbow pad, where I want the cuff to be flush w the bottom of the elbow pad

the CCM's are much lighter, fit closer to my arm and are more mobile

I too owned an Itech Pad for a long time so take what you will , from a guy that has tried 8 different elbow pads over the last 5 or 6 years, the Bauer Vapor 7.0 was the closest Ive found in comparison to my old Itechs. It doesnt have the non stretch strap at the forearm like a lot of folks love. Its not a true 3 piece design, like a lot of guys/gals must have. But... It is fairly protective with great mobility and Im sure if you bumped up to an APX or APX2 you'd get a slight upgrade on protection. Hope that helps , good luck.

for the record, the CCM Ultra Tacks are incredible

they are rock solid and DO NOT move on my arm, wow so nice to not have to constantly adjust them

they just fit my arm so good

all the protection of the AX1's, minus the bulk, weight and slippage

home run IMO

I went from size Large CCM Crazy Lights, which were too short, and which the velcro straps were always coming undone on, to STX Surgeon 500s. The STXs velcro holds great, they are heavier but it is not noticeable, and the sleeves are working fine. The length in size Large is just right (I am 6'2, 220 lbs with fairly meaty, but definitely not enormous arms).

I'm in Medium RBZs and I find them to run short as well. I've got about an inch gap between my forarm protection and glove and have taken a couple of vicious slashes that hurt. I love everything about the RBZs but need something that runs a little longer on the forearm. In the past couple of years I've gone through the AX1's, 7k pros, Nexus 8000s, APX2s, and now the RBZs and I still haven't found something perfect. The AX1s were tanks and offered the most protection, they were like decked out 7K pros with better lock, liner, and other features. The Bauers weren't for me. Today I tried on the HD1s which seemed even bulkier than the AX1s. Followed by the Ultra Tacks which which felt good. But then, I tried the Easton Pro 10's and they honestly felt great. Might give those a go next! Any thoughts on them?
