Need new gloves

Recommended Posts

Currently in 14'' Eagle PPF x705s. Love them way more than my last pair of Eastons, and the CCM's before that. The main thing I like is the palm material (MSH3) and how mobile I feel in them. They are maybe a little bit on the "loose" traditional side, but they feel more protective than my snug fitting Eastons I had before.

I'm wondering if the Eagle Aero or Talon would be the best choice to go with here? Seems like the Talon is more of a snug fit, but the PPF line was not a 4roll style like the Aero is. I'm open to other brands, but I really do like Eagle much more than the previous gloves I've had.

Can't go wrong with Eagles! If you like a tradition fit, definitely look at the Warrior AX1's. I've been through a lot of mitts but these are by far the highest quality (in terms of build) gloves I've owned.

How are the palms? My old Eastons would get hard and crusty when they were older. I've had these current Eagles for about a year, and the palms are like the day I got them.

I just got a pair of pro stock Aeros and there pretty tight in the hand if that's what you like. They're actually a bit stiff on the knuckles but I'm sure that will break in a bit.

Hockey Giant says that the Aero is the more traditional fit, whereas the Talon's are an anatomical fit. Do you think they will loosen up a bit in the hand once they break in? Sounds odd that a traditional fit 4roll would be tight in the hand.

Take a look at True's 4rolls, I could be mistaken but I believe they're rebadged Combat MF 52 Cals. Those were handmade in Canada and are far and away the best 4rolls I've ever used.

I thought the 52 Cals were pretty average. Between myself and every team mate / prospective buyer that has tried them on the Bauer 4 roll pros were thought to be the better glove and one of the best 4 rolls out there. Each to their own which is what makes any piece of hockey equipment an interesting choice.

AX1s are extremely well built gloves but the cuff on them is attrocious. They're not nearly as open and mobiile as the old franchises or what you'd be used to coming from Eagle.

I have the MF2 4 Rolls and they are actually bad compared to the Bauers and CCM I have tried on. I am disappointed in them.

*shrug* I can't speak for what a vendor is describing them as, but as an example I don't like the Bauer nexus because it's too loose. I like the old Bauer supreme (until they changed the fit) because it was so tight. I tend to like my gloves tight in the hand and loose in the cuff. Warrior Koncept, Sherwood nexon, Sherwood EK15 were my previous gloves.

I had some CCM 4 rolls which were also pretty tight in the hand but they felt small length wise. Like the cuff didn't come up far enough. The aero are similar but tighter, with a bigger flared cuff.

I anticipate them breaking in a bit so there isn't so much pressure on my knuckles when I make a fist in them.

+1 for the CCM 4R pros (any version), I thought they were a really underated glove and up there with any other top of the line 4 roll glove.

How's the palm compared on those ccm gloves to the msh3 on the Eagles?

How about the openness of the cuff? I'm still leaning Eagle just because my last cccm gloves weren't that great.

I have 13inch talon 60 and x805i, IMO x805i offers a more snug feel in the hand than talon does.

and talon is truely snug around wrist

I think I'm going to order the Aero's. The fit is a bit more snug in the hand than the CCMs, and I honestly just trust Eagle gloves more due to my bad experience with CCM gloves years back.

I appreciate MSH's help, per usual.

As I suspected, the Aeros definitely opened up after using them even for one game. They're a bit looser than I like, but they're so damn comfortable I'm determined to get used to them.

+2 for CCM 4 rolls. Came from Easton 4 roll and was surprised how much I like them. 0 break in time and the feel is first rate.

CCM 4 Roll Pros are my fav glove of all time. Feel so nice.

I think I have the "II". I'd imagine the "III" is even better.

I have a pair of Franchises and a pair of Reebok 4 rolls I got from DK hockey. Nothing bad to say about Keith's service at all, especially given how hard it is to get pro stock gear here in Northern Ireland
