Fletch

Well, yesterday sucked.

Recommended Posts

So I went to play pick-up yesterday at the Ice Palace in Aliso Viejo, CA. My brother and I got there early, really excited to play. Pick-up starts and I was playing really well. I felt great out there and was really clicking with a couple guys on my line.

Then, I collide with this big guy from the other team (who had lifted his stick up between my legs earlier when I was in front....not cool for pick-up IMO) and when he hit me, my right ankle buckled underneath me. I was down for a few seconds and tried to skate to the bench. I made it there but my ankle was killing me. I sat out for a couple shifts, but went back out. I ended up playing the rest of the session, but in a lot of pain. It only hurt when I turned on it, but I was able to push off. I finished pretty well, even scoring on a couple nice breakaways.

So, it ends and I go to the locker room to get changed. Before I walked into the locker room, I put my Sakic Synergy and my back-up against the wall with the other sticks. About a half hour later I walk out with my bag to get my sticks, and my Synergy wass gone. I went over the the other locker rooms to see if someone had taken it in there, but no such luck. It was gone.

I'm pretty upset about it, after so many of the guys there seemed cool. Even though I hurt my ankle (which hurts worse today, especially when I walk on it) I still had a good time. But losing my stick really pissed me off.

And, to make matters worse, the rink has a security camera right near where my stick was, and the camera would have easily been able to see who took my stick. Unfortunately, there was no tape in the VCR, so no footage was recorded.

The only saving grace to this is that my Stealth should be here in the next week or so (I participated in the EMB toy drive). But it doesn't make up for a $150 Synergy being stolen from me.

Don't let this happen to you! I'm bringing my sticks in the room with me from now on - every time. Yesterday happened to be only the 4th of 5th time in my life I left them outside the room.

I actually had a rink employee take one of my Cale Hulse pro stock Responses. The manager refused to do anything about it and that rink doesn't get any more of my money.

a good lesson to keep an eye on your stuff, and rather putting your sticks by the door where any fool can walk out with them, place them next to you

Anytime im at the rink I bag my stick up and drag it with me. Between games I'm holding it in the bleechers. I get shit for it but I'm not losing my hard earned gear to some punk. I had a vapor stick stolen from me when I was younger then found it in the rinks collection of broken sticks. I wanted to kill someone. Sorry about your situation :(

I'm totally paranoid after having a pair of skates stollen about a year ago (705 grafs, about 2 months old) while I was in the shower. I now take all sticks I bring with me across with me, and my bag stays behind the bench in roller. I just have no faith in people anymore (especially some of the thieves that play house roller hockey, and even worse at tournaments).

wow that sucks..people over here are very trusting. When i play in tournaments i just leave my stuff in the locker room between games. I have never had anything stolen from me. One time even, I left my synergy backup stick on the bench after a game and when i started driving back home i realized i left it there so i turned around to see if it was still there, and what do you know, exactly where i left it. Actually the only thing i've ever had stolen from me at a hockey rink was my nalgene water bottle. I'd really like to know who did it because that bottle was really nasty, i didn't wash it out for a long time.

I take my sticks in the locker room with me and they go right next to where I'm dressing. Also don't carry any cash or anything of value into the locker room to be taken while I'm playing. 95% of the guys are good guys but you never know who is going to show up for drop in so I don't take any chances.

at this roller place by my house they steal everything. Same thing about the ice rink i play at one of my freinds team had all of their sticks stolen(they were outside the door) i guess someone just walked by and grabbed them all.

I hate to hear stuff like this. My son had a goalie stick stolen from a rink in the next town.

At our rink you can leave your wallet on the bench in the locker room while you play and it'll still be there when you get back.

Yeah, I took my older brothers ultra-lite to pond hockey when I was ten, I let this kid borrow it, and he took off without me knowing. The rink was split in to 5 or 6 different areas and we were playing in seperate games.

Edit; Yes, my older brother beat me. But this was a long time ago and many stick years ago, so were cool. ;)

A guy on my team left his street clothes in the LR while he sub'd on another team. He got back and his boots were gone. Not his wallet. Not his watch. HIS BOOTS!!! He had to walk out to the parking lot in socks. :(

A summer hockey team I was on from the states had a tournament up in Ottawa. We lost to a team real bad and we were all leaving and I didnt see it but I guess a kid on our team stole a whole bag and dropped it off at a mcdonalds like a mile away....funny......very wrong.

Man.....after reading all of these stories, I'm going to be so paranoid...lol. I already lock my bag up with a samsonite luggage combination lock, which I'm sure has saved me from getting something stolen from me like my wallet or watch. My bag has been in locker rooms where other stuff was stolen from guys......I'm sure the lock was probably a deterrent, so they moved on to the other guys' bags.

Luckly, I've never actually had anything stolen at the rink *knocks wood*. Sometimes the guys will go off and hide some of my stuff on me before a practice, as I am sure all of you have done to your teammates as well...Just locker room stuff.

It's unfortunate that there are a few bad apples in the hockey world. At our rink about a year ago, someone raided our lockerroom and the opposing team's lockerroom while we were playing. They ended up with over $500 in cash and a couple cell phones. The jacked up thing about it was that they neatly folded up everyone's clothes (most people's money was in their pockets.) We were playing in an adult league but the 10 year old kids played before us, so we figured it was them or their friends (huge crowd after their game in front of the lockerrooms). Same situation: security cameras but the particular ones that were aiming toward the lockerrooms malfunctioned and were scheduled to get maintenance the following day.

The only thing I bring inside is my car keys and leave my wallet and phone outside. Of course someone could steal the keys and keep clicking the remote until they find my car in which case I'd be SOL....and pissed.

That happened to my team too, during our mini camp over the summer, the Midget team came into our locker room, grabbed our bags, and threw them all over the room, spread everything all over the lcoker, threw clothes up on the heating vents, and a bunch of other stuff, we got them back though, pretty well too. We ended up going into their locker room, got whipped cream and deer piss, and put that in their bags and shoes, so in the end it got equal

We used to have to bring our valuables in from teh parking lot as people had a habit of breaking into cars. As luck would have it, the deadbolt was broken and we couldn't lock up our gear one night and the locker room got tossed. Bunch of cash lost and a few sets of car keys found in the parking lot next to unlocked cars.

Whenever I change in a public locker room I leave my valuables behind. I lock them in my storage room.

We set up lockers in the locker room that were mounted to the wall but some of the youth kids knocked them down. I don't know if they are still in there.

I'm sure the coaches and parents said it wasn't their fault either.

In AUS we're very lucky that this sort of thing doesn't really happen at all. Generally If you get into the locker room there is usually someone's jacket or stick left behind. I've seen numerous Synergy stick's left in the rooms for hours on end and the player returns to find it in the same position with no malace whatsoever.

It is just a precaution that whenever we play our bags are left just outside our bench. Normally this is enough to make sure our very personal investment of gear is protected.

I however have had a junior attempt to go through my bag at one point when left near our bench. I don't think he realised it was a senior's bag as the look on his face when I grabbed him said it all. Needless to say after I choked him abit and reported his behavior to his parents he wasn't caught going through anymore kit bags!

Don't you guys have locks on your dressing rooms? We do but we usually never lock the room when we go to the ice.

We have 8 main locker rooms - the locker rooms are in pairs and the showers are between them. You can lock out the door going to your shower so that people from the other locker room can't come in through that way, however, giving out keys to lock the locker room would result in a disaster...LOL

Well, to get the key for the dressing room in our arena, you have to hand in your car keys and then when you return the key you get your car keys back.
