Bauer Supreme ACP Pro Girdle (vs SuperTacks/Jetspeed/Covert) - any experiences?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Anyone tried the ACP Pro girdle out? I'm in a unique situation where the top men's league in my area and the national comp are full-contact, but I also play competitive non-contact as well, so a good girdle works better for me than swapping high- and low-end pants depending on what league I'm playing in, as I just find them more comfortable even if the padding is OTT for the level of play.

I'd be upgrading from my Projekt girdle, which is perfect 99% of the time, but in full-contact you really notice the lack of padding at the waist (specifically between the hips and kidney pads) and lower back.

FWIW, cost isn't a massive factor, as whatever I buy next will (hopefully) last me through the end of playing full-contact. My buying options would be:

Jetspeed or Covert girdle (same price)

ACP Pro - $50 more

Thanks!

I have one now. I think the padding is a bit on the light side. I've never owned the projekt so I can't tell you if it's better or worse. My guess is slightly better. I didn't think it was padded enough for me personally. I also think they run on the long side even though they are adjustable.

I went from the Projekt to the True XC9 girdle. The XC9 is more protective around the waist area and lower back than the Projekt. The Covert girdle looks very similar to the XC9 and us the other option I was considering, but I came across a great deal on the XC9.

If you want the 90s JNCO jeans look I’d go with an XXL. If not I’d just buy the same size as your girdle. Depends on your definition of best.

Is it better to get the pant cover, or the girdle shell? Being in the UK I think the Girdle Shell might be hard to source, or am I thinking way to much into this?

Same size as girdle, you can size down for style (look at William Nylander, he goes a size down... it looks stupid if you ask me but I'm an old man 😂).  I would stick with a girdle shell since they tend to fit better and come up a little higher (some brands offer a little extra kidney padding).

You don't need to use a Bauer shell with a Bauer girdle, all shells work with all girdles, they have a belt you tighten to hold it up after you pull it on.  Some shells/girdles may have velcro tabs/loops for the girdle but they're pointless, the belt is all you need (if you play for multiple teams and have multiple shells there's no way you'd waste a few mins each time you swap shells when you can just pull them up and tighten a belt and get the same result lol).

Cheers for the reply, I'll go L girdle L pants cover as the actual girdle covers don't seem to be for sale here in the UK

Used it last night, I'd say I should have gone a size smaller, however with the height adjuster I will get strips of velcro sewn onto them so I can pull it up 2/3 inches instead of 1. However it was first skate with them, so they will always feel different to what you are used too.

Howdy,

I have one of these now as well.

Protection feels as good or better than the 7092 girdle I was using before, other than tailbone protection.  That seems a bit worse.  I used a seam ripper to detach more of the loop on the back of the girdle to make it easier to hang up.

Happy with it overall.  There's not a lot of choice for a wrap style girdle out there.

That is a very good point! I will see what I can do to make some alterations to it!

Guys,

I think the Tacks / RBK 9K was the best girdle out there for comfort and protection other than maybe the old Bauer Supreme TotalOne. But May I suggest this bad boy of a girdle. I bought one used however it didn't fit and had to send it back. It was a tank and very breathable

The back and yellow, I'm not to sure if there is a difference

I think the black and blue one, which is the "newer" one, only has +1 extension and not -1. not a big deal for me but I'm trying to figure out if the newer one has a belt.

FYI, The Bauer ACP PRO girdle is one of the most used pants/girdles in Swedish SHL together with Bauer Pro Series/Nexus pants.

Talked to a Bauer representative at a summer skills camp my son went to this summer, and discussed gear with him.

He said that, at PRO level in Sweden (SHL, Hockeyallsvenskan) it’s a 50/50 split between the ACP Pro girdle and the Pro Series pant.
Younger players seem to prefer girdles over the pants he said..

I was curious and found a great deal on an ACP Pro on SLS ($40 shipped... well worn but plenty of life left).  First impressions, this thing is light.  I've worn Super Tacks the past few years and a couple of 9K's before that.  Have tried some older Supreme wrap style girdles which I didn't care for some years ago.

Ths ACP Pro (the black/yellow one), is definitely a little lighter than the ST but every single pad on it feels half as thin, it has good coverage but again, everything feels paper thin compared to the ST.  The thigh boards, which are usually the beefiest pads, are almost flexible, and the tailbone pads don't instill much confidence.  I do like the segmented pads on the outside of the thigh, feels like it wraps the outer leg with a little more protective coverage than the ST, but again, everything feels much thinner.  For beer league it's fine but I wouldn't want to play full contact in these.  I won't get to test them until at least April (recovering from ACL replacement) so can't say much until then, but even though I can't play right  now I'm still addicted to gear 🤦‍♂️

I have the warrior covert girdle and I really like the lightweight feel of it but I don’t like how the top of the leg pads on the girdle kind of sit on top of my kneecaps/shins.  I would definitely prefer if the pads were a bit looser around my quads.  I’m assuming the obvious answer is to switch back to pants, but would cutting slits on the inseam and out seam of the girdle be an option to loosen up the restriction a bit?

I did just grab a cheap pair of warrior pants to test them out but I’d prefer to alter the girdle if that’s something doable

Honestly both the ST and the ACP Pro would work for you, they both have adjustable straps around the thigh pads, the ST can be left pretty loose and still have good coverage.  Also both have height adjustment for the thigh pads from -2" to +2" (I know the ST is that much adjustment, would have to double check the ACP Pro but it had a similar setup that basically raised/lowered the whole leg pad which I like b/c I always shorten mine up a bit).
