So I look at this argument going on about "Home Sharpeners" vs. retailers in a different light. I also play/coach high school tennis and have been stringing racquets for years. I started just like many stringers, getting my own and learning the craft. There are many types of machines out there, some of which make it easier for stringers to do their job (i.e. electronic stringers). Just because they're easier to use, doesn't mean you can be bad at the craft and not pay attention to what you're doing. You still need to make sure the strings aren't slipping in the clamps, the weave is correct, you've started in the correct spots and your tensions are accurate. The same goes with this machine. As for the "home sharpener" taking business... that's called capitalism, folks. If you don't provide a good sharpening all the time or people don't live in an area that has a lot of stores with good sharpeners around, those people are going to seek out better options. I don't have a Sparx, but I'm heavily considering one if my youngest decides to start playing. If people start asking me to do it for them, I'll give them the same speech I give to the people I string for. I'm not trying to take business away from the local shop, but if you feel this is a better experience for you, I'll gladly do it. Are there people who will try to take advantage of this? Yes, there always are. However, most people are doing it to provide a better service or convenience to people they already know. If they're not doing a good job with it or it's not what they're looking for, they aren't going to continue to come back. Lastly, remember how many of you sharpeners started doing this as a hobby or interest and then turned it into a career. There are plenty of people who are fortunate enough to have a shop and do this for a living, but many people like to learn a craft and will provide their services to a small subsection of the population for a nominal fee because they enjoy it, not because they're making $5 a sharpening.

We definitely should not be discouraging manufacturers from replying to questions/comments/concerns. We should be embracing that, as most other consumers don't get that opportunity. If this thread was full of spam, it would be a different story.

One I had from college and the other one I found on ebay. There was another one listed recently that was actually new and unused. If the Link doesn't work, just extract the item # from the url and search for it in "completed auctions." I don't know when they started or stopped making them, but they were standard NCAA issue beginning the first season that cages were required (1979). http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-PRO-TEC-HOCKEY-FACE-GUARD-MASK-CAGE-NEW-NEVER-USED-W-INSTRUCTIONS-/351829256660?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=beYfJY2JiZvCcCEVlYjDPD7MYzg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

We've got a few players with some Jofa's but that's about it. Everything else is the normal such as shoulder pads and elbows.

Yeah. There are a few other guys with old CCM HT2s and Cooper SK-2000s. I'm the only one wearing the original CCM Pro Standards with the foam side bumpers...all original, down to the leather chin straps. Naturally, when I ditched the half-shield last year after a few close calls, my choice for cages was a couple of vintage Pro-Tec cat-eyes but without the foam lip pad...just some tape around the bottom bar. I love all that old shit. Practically every time I show up at open hockey, someone asks how much I'd take for one of them.

Been getting some ice time recently, and really enjoying playing again after a few years hiatus. Went to the A/B drop in last night and had good fun, more passing at this level compared to the C level that I'm used to playing at. Really need to work on my shooting, as I flubbed on a couple of chances. I did get a good shot on net, high blocker side, missed by a couple inches.

accidentally posted this in the wrong section Thinking about snagging a pair, currently in APX2 that are pretty broken down and shot and had makos for a bit but needed a stiffer skate due to some ankle issues with my one foot. I'm into the tech of a monocoque designed boot, and was thinking VH but pretty interested in this package. Anyone come from an APX2 skate? negative space drives me crazy and have found a decent way of dealing with it thanks to powerfoot but miss the wrap of makos. I know I need to get to a shop to try these on, just trying to do some research before I take a 2hr drive to a local shop. Thanks guys
