Howdy, My son got to play an exhibition game at Quicken Loans arena yesterday. :-) He plays goalie and is just starting out despite being "old" at 10. The group he plays with is a local house league and this kinda came up outta the blue. He's been pretty ambivalent about hockey in general, and quit a different house team at the beginning of this past season, then didn't play at all for a few months. He just recently decided he'd like to go up and play with this local more laid back group. Anyway, I figured he wouldn't want to go to the exhibition game and would prefer the more low key approach. His only other 'real' game was a 0-16 or so complete drubbing that really hurt his confidence / enjoyment of the sport, back when he was part of the previous house league. Anyway, he finds out about the game and of course I was totally wrong and he really wants to go. We work out with the house league organizer that he'd go and be the backup goalie, just riding the pine. As the game gets closer, my son is more and more interested in playing, but gets that he's the backup. Anyway, yesterday to our complete surprise the organizer had decided to have both goalies (the other was a fill in from the local Squirt travel team) play! We knew none of this until we see our son skating out to start the 2nd period in net. I was a freaking wreck. The score at that point was 2-1, IIRC. Anyway, over the course of the 2nd period he got scored on 3 times. Two were fairly soft goals, but he didn't have much chance on the 3rd. We also scored some, and the 2nd period ends with the score tied at 4/4. I'm breathing a HUGE sign of relief at this point, because the other goalie is headed back out. :-) My son played ok... I think the best he ever has, but is obviously way behind either our other goalie or the other team's net minder. Still, he positioned himself better than I've seen before and was a little faster to try and cover the puck. Still not going down onto the ice soon enough to try and block shots with his pads, but for sure an incremental improvement over where he's been. Anyway, the other goalie starts the 3rd period and I relax and watch the game since my son is done. He's standing up at the boards, watching what's going on, and more into the game than I'd have ever expected too, which is awesome. Then he's skating out with about 5 minutes left in the game! With 30 seconds left on a penalty kill! What! Turns out the organizer had decided to split the goalie time equally between the two... Score was still 4/4. Game on the line. The kids had played WAY better than I'd expected, plus the other team wasn't as strong as I'd feared. But seeing my son the fairly new goalie, who's had a history of lukewarm interest, headed out to close out the game currently in a 4/4 tie... Damn. Nervous does not begin to describe it. :-) Anyway, the kids are playing well and they're controlling the puck pretty well. But then here comes the break away and my son the newb is the only thing between the puck and the net. He positions himself reasonably well and there's a good shot and wham! the puck goes off his mask and back behind the net. Save! I think he had another poke check save as well in there. Game ends, tied 4/4. My son had fun and is (rightfully) proud of how he did and his improvements. There's plenty for him to improve on, but this was his best performance on the ice ever. And I didn't have a heart attack. :-) Mark

Since I posted about it in the Sweet Spot, and said I had stuff to vent for those of you who care here goes. When we moved we wrapped all of our glassware in newspaper we ran our dishwasher which worked fine during the home inspection and the final walk through 4 times and it crapped out. Its definitely an older model. No biggy the wife and I want to re-due the kitchen anyway so we can either buy a cheaper one to hold us over or just hand wash. I vote for hand washing, because seriously its not that bad. My dad, mom and brother came up to help us with the move. My dad is a very handy guy, and I have learned most of what I know from him. We went to change out an outlet in the bedroom because I told him its something I have never done before, and I would prefer if he watched over me and taught me how to do it. We did one no big deal. The wiring is a little old, but everything worked. He told me to go and do the next one by myself and he would watch. I pulled the outlet out of the wall only to find out there was no metal box surrounding the outlet. Who ever put the outlet in screwed it to the back stud? WTF who does that? We just put that one back in the wall and decided that we wouldn't use it until it gets fixed. My parents live 4 hours away, and my uncle who has been an electrician his whole life also lives in the same town as my parents has offered to come up with my dad, and take a look at the electrical and fix whats wrong. All he requires is a place to coffee, beer and a place to sleep (in that order too). Again no big deal. Its better than paying someone to do it. My dad and I installed a floating floor for our laundry closet, and really made it look very nice. I painted the walls installed some molding. We really went to town on this closet that you won't be able to see much of. The wife, and I once we got our closing date went to Home Depot to purchase a washer dryer set. We had it set to be delivered and installed this past Saturday. I got the phone call from the delivery company (who is not Home Depot by the way) saying they would be there in a half hour. An hour goes by. Hour and half.. 2 hours nothing. I tried calling the cellphone number of the guy who called me no answer. They no called no showed me on the delivery. I called Home Depot and they said there was nothing they could do since the place was closed. I stopped into the store on Sunday, and they said the same thing, but they would look into it. I call the delivery company this morning asking when my washer and dryer would be delivered today, and they informed me they do not deliver on Mondays. I called Home Depot back, and the woman said "yeah they don't". I told them to cancel my order, and I would just be going with Lowes or another place locally owned. They didn't even bat an eye or try to do anything to help me out. Now I am a reasonable guy if the delivery driver called me, and said we can't make it for XYZ reason I would have understood. If the woman who worked at Home Depot told me they don't deliver on Mondays I would have understood, but for everything to be sprung and surprise me the way they did is just unacceptable. I went to Lowes on my lunch break, and bought the same models from them. Lowes does their own deliveries and installs so at least they can't pass the buck if they mess up. They even price matched it for me. It doesn't help that I worked for a tech company for a number of years that prided themselves on customer service, and even when the customer was totally wrong they would still do all they could to help the customer. I am ruined in that sense as far as customer service goes. I judge company based on that one. The only upside is I have a few more days to really make the closet look even better. Thats my rant. I am still very glad we bought the house. I am sure there will be more rants in the future, but thanks for reading if you did.

Mark - No offense, but this is my brand - I know exactly what happened here. OT used my logo after we did a jersey order with them 12 years ago. We fell short on the numbers for the jerseys and had to buy 20 crests, which we used for the original MSH bags. At the time, we fulfilled our commitment to the jerseys and crests. It looks like they made more. I've had to buy 2 jerseys (one of them purple!) from 13mugs before. And two other MSH members have bought from them as well, and gave them to me. I emailed him back then but they keep on popping up. I just contacted them again and told them I will buy the remainder of them. And if another pops up, I'll serve him with a cease and desist.

Getting a 6-4 win is nice and all, but I'm even more happy to see my buddy Kyle play his first game back in about 8 months after a torn ACL and meniscus. He went down around the time I started walking again so we haven't been on the ice together in almost a year!

That won't be necessary. Just settled with the seller - bought whatever was left.

I have officially been a home owner for a week, and I have plenty to vent about, but seriously the stuff I need to vent about doesn't make me regret buying the house.

On the topic of home fix up or flipping shows they are not to be watched if you're trying to by a house in the greater boston area. With that being said looks like the fam is making a move and dipping our toe into the world of home ownership. Lets just hope this doesn't result in numerous posts in the venting spot thread.

This has me seriously reevaluating my opinion of you.

Flip or Flop. I can't stand the girl and the "problems" are so forced but I like the end results, usually. I hate any of the shows where they don't actually do renovations (I find shows like House Hunters generally a waste of time).
