Keep in mind, a lot of the members here have known each other for a long time. They have gathered many times at MSH events and many have been to each other's weddings and the like. What you may see as negativity many times is actually a couple old friends having some fun or tossing out an old inside joke. Often times, there are good natured debates and disagreements which are just that. Remember, tone doesn't always translate well in the written word.

Just revive the VH/True Skate thread...that will get some more traffic on here... 😃

You get interaction with reps. You get the opportunity to test gear. You get to see and demo product at events. You get to be a member of a place with some integrity when it comes to product leaks. Ultimately, you get plenty more than what you’re paying for. As for the topic, I avoided touching it but since @dkmiller3356 posted his thoughts, I will too. Part of the reason it’s slow is lack of hockey being played. Part is the lack of interesting products to talk about. Part of it is that people are consuming information in other ways. Short YouTube clips, Instagram and Facebook (and for the Gen-Z’ers, tiktok). Part of it is that people don’t have the patience for a medium where you ask a question and aren’t likely to get a response in a couple hours, possibly days or longer. People these days NEED A REPLY RIGHT NOW. And finally, a big part of it (in my opinion) is that we chose to maintain our integrity and keep our content to information and less “shitposting”, pardon the expression. Anyone who has ever been on GGSU or any hockey Reddits know what I’m talking about - those places are super busy but they’re also absolute cesspools. I was (well, technically still am I guess) a member, and former admin, on another hockey forum that was specifically for goalies. They had easily 3-4x our traffic, but also 3-4x less actual information. It was mostly made up of off topic nonsense, memes, GIFs, and general trash. But it was without a doubt busy. Is that better to have more traffic but less content? There are likely other reasons as well that nobody is going to get into publicly because it’s both not my place and frankly it’s none of anyone else’s business either. If you want more content, then post some. Don’t expect everyone else to do it for you. You certainly can’t count on me to do it because I don’t follow gear outside of goalie stuff anymore. Like Dave said, this site is what you make of it.

Schuttsports has debuted a shield for football. It looks like it's too flimsy to be used in hockey. I'm looking forward to seeing what Bauer and other hockey co's come up with. https://www.schuttsports.com/splash-shield.html

You can sharpen the raw steel by making a whole bunch of passes on the initial sharpening. How many passes you need to sharpen depends on the quality of steel. However, in the interest of saving wheels, I have typically in the past, let the LHS sharpen the skates first to establish some type of edge, whether ROH or FBV, and then I sharpen on top of that to get the FBV edge I desire. (full disclosure: I use a Sparx now, but I sharpened for a bunch of years with a Blackstone)

The VH/True thread has definitely gone off the rails at times, hence my previous joke. But for the VAST majority of other topics/threads, MSH is incredibly informative and members are incredibly helpful and respectful. I personally have learned a great amount over the years because of MSH, and I have really appreciated many members' knowledge and input.

I’m not sure I’d be skating yet even if ours did open, TBH. I don’t really feel like stuff is reopening because its actually safe to do so...

The NHL cleared the way Thursday for players to return to practice rinks next week and firmed up its playoff format even as a ninth player tested positive for the coronavirus. After unveiling the final details of its 24-team plan if the season is able to resume this summer, the league said teams could reopen facilities and players could take part in limited, voluntary workouts beginning Monday. The NHL and NHL Players' Association must still iron out health and safety protocols before moving ahead with training camps and games. Players can skate in groups of up to six at a time under ''phase 2,'' which includes specific instructions on testing, mask-wearing and temperature checks. It's another step closer to the ice after the league said every playoff series will be a best-of-seven format after the initial qualifying round and teams will be reseeded throughout. https://sports.yahoo.com/nhl-finalizes-playoff-format-pens-player-tests-positive-192403195--nhl.html

I don’t see the negative vibe you are talking about at all, any particular examples?

Well, that WAS the last time there was new tech that really warranted significant discussion. Probably the Mako before that.

Poison ivy/oak/sumac - why do you exist? Using the time at home to do some work in the yard. Cut down several trees and cleared some saplings that were growing in a bed of pachysandra and other unknown plant life. That was the weekend before last. Whatever the hell I got into is finally going away. At least it was confined to patches on my legs below the knee, but it got old quick.

I have to be honest, I find the topic you chose for this thread to be offensive - or at least overly provocative. There is a man behind the site that works incredibly hard for this community and that should always, in ,my opinion, be remembered. You could have just as easily asked the question, "why isn't more information about products being posted on MSH" This would have been valid and far nicer. As many have said the market has changed considerably. The way manufacturers deal with online information outlets has changed as well. I also think the way people consume news and information has changed and many prefer to listen to a video rather than write and discuss. I could get into what that says about us as people (not a good thing) but I will pass on it. Low hanging fruit as it were.... The good thing is we can do things to help.... post good topics. Share your experiences and reviews. Tell your friends about the site and, when the pandemic is over, come to events. In the end this site is what WE make of it.

We're talking about a community that took decades to accept half shields, refuses to wear any sort of shoulder protection, and swears by the gear they wore in junior or play in refs gear (yes I know a guy). These are the guys you'll be making masks for, haha, good luck getting them to wear them. 100% positive I won't be. I'd rather hang them up.

I still hold out hope for this because I think without it hockey might be pretty dangerous until there is a vaccine unless we get tested regularly. And thats unlikely at best.
