For skates that are hopefully going to last you several years it could be worth making a day trip (probably 5+ hours of your time between driving and trying things on at the store) to make sure you have the right size. I know that's a pain, but sometimes spending the time and effort upfront is worthwhile long term.

oh im not disagreeing with you after this situation. It has been a while since I have ordered skates online and I have never had an issue before. lesson learned!

There's an algorithm involved (the inventory management system was created by Total Hockey) and while it takes closest distance into play, if that store has x amount in stock and is projected to sell y and shipping that skate will disrupt that, it will pull from the main warehouse to protect that store's local stock.

Ive seen as fast as 5 days and as long as 28. I think it depends on your location and the stock for a specific steel size.

Hey Snipe...I don't know how to post pics, but...I did feel inside and that area to which you're referring does feel marginally softer than in the AS1. I only had a moment this morning to check it out, but I have to swap out the laces for waxed, so I will examine that area this evening and post back. I am curious as to how swapping the tongue for a D30 regular thickness would feel. I don't have lace bite issues, but I have taken pucks off of that spot and it's not fun. I could use shot-blockers, but never found any I loved. The description (I believe) states the D30 is for lace bite, so...dunno. Can't get my hands on them and don't want to pay return shipping just to check them out. If anyone tries them...love to hear about it.

I like to have two pairs of skates as well. One to ref and one to play. Sometimes I play after reffing tournament games all day and it's great to be able to put on dry skates. As mentioned, it also gives you a backup pair in case one pair breaks or needs repair. I definitely like that a skate similar to Makos is available without having to pay custom prices. I do wish the sizing was the same as if I have to drop down from 8EE to 7.5EE that also means getting used to a smaller holder size or paying to get 272mm holders installed on the 7.5EE. My Mako II stockpile should last a few more years; maybe by then a new model will be out that has consistent sizing vs. most other brands. If not, I would still buy one of the current models as the holder size difference is only a minor annoyance. Maybe I will just buy the Trues for future roller conversions and save my remaining Mako II skates for ice.

I see waaaay too many people “adapt” their tendon guard by using it to pull on and off their skate and break it, making it flexible. 🙄😂
