VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
shoot_the_goalie replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Technically you shouldn't need anything beside the stock footbeds because the skate arch should be custom to your foot arch. But then again, some people like to change their insoles too. -
I usually wait minimum 24 hours. Sometimes 48. I know that's being conservative, but why chance it?

Everyone I know who uses the Hyperlite line, have many complaints about them. Just FYI.

Before you do anything, get a good quality edge checker. -
Lol. These upcoming gear catalogs are for me, like a kid looking through a Playboy. Is that weird? Hahaha.... "Ooooh... Check out the FT6 Pro skate in the centerfold!"

True sticks - Grip Gone Tacky
shoot_the_goalie replied to IPv6Freely's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Old thread, but new bumps so I'll chime in. All my old True sticks, which were stored in the same place as all my other sticks, did get much tackier/stickier over time. Sticks still in great condition, but the grip feels like adhesive now. I just sprayed some clear coat on it and it's all good. -
A side note. I never get it why so many players (pros & joes alike) use mouth-guards as chewing toys, instead of you know....mouth-guards?

My 2 cents. I'm pushing close to 50 now, and I have definitely changed my off-ice routine. Most of my workouts are now short HITT workouts (10-15 mins). They are still very challenging (going max all out), but much shorter than what I did in the past. I don't do nearly as much weight training and have shifted more to pilates style/core strength work. I still do weights from time to time, but my joints just don't take kindly to heavy reps anymore. Also STRETCH! I cannot emphasize this enough, but stretching has become so important as I've gotten older. Dynamic stretching pre-workout, and static long stretching (with timed breathing) for post workout. Beyond actual workouts, I try to focus on a good diet, getting good sleep (still working on this...lol), and reducing stress through meditation.

CCM 90 Day Satisfaction Guarantee
shoot_the_goalie replied to shooter27's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I know people who've used the 90 day money back. How smoothly the warranty goes depends on the point of purchase seller - Pure Hockey, Hockey Monkey, etc. I know from witness that Pure makes it all pretty easy. -
VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne

I own them and I used them 2-3 times and then put them away in storage. I'm sure they provide the protection that they advertise, but they were a bit too stiff for my liking and limited my ankle flexion, so I went back to the traditional tongues that came with the boot. I've never gotten lace-bite in my Trues, and I wear shins over tongues, so the Meta-guard isn't really adding much in protection. -
You can also use standard helmet screws, though you may need to widen the hole a touch. Using them with a little Loctite blue works.
-
A little off topic, but the worst damage I see to skates are those who tie their laces or heavily tape around their ankles. Damaged tongues, tendon guards, top eyelets and creased ankle roll areas.
-
Is there a pic showing the skate when dry? It's hard to tell if there's de-lamination of the carbon fiber or if it's moisture, ice, etc. In addition, yes, I've seen top level skates really beaten up after one year of use by collegiate players, pros, etc; though usually by players who are hard on their skates 5, 6, 7 days a week. I've seen NHLers skates destroyed after 6 months of use.

These seem like a solution to a problem that never existed.

New Sync improved over Nexus?
shoot_the_goalie replied to honeless_blader's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Totally worth it down the road if you really like a particular stick. -
I would be all over RBZ protective and any CCM Ultra Tacks sticks in my specs. Alas, they are very hard to find now.

Saw this website, and intrigued due to the customization and price point. Anyone ever try them? https://customhockeysticks.ca/

Anyone know when the general release date would be for the Jetspeed FT5 skates? From the usual CCM release pattern, somewhere in July of 2023?

learning hockey at an advanced age

Always awesome to see this thread pop back up here and there. What a great thread this has and will be. Great work and progression as always Trey! Your progress and dedication has been nothing short of incredible. Keep it up! To nitpick, since I'm sure you'll take the advice in stride and improve on it in the next video you post, rotate that top hand more when stick handling. It'll allow you to be smoother with the puck. You'll know you're doing it enough when the stick handling becomes much quieter. Also, ever think about going to a hollow with a little more bite, maybe 1"? (I think you said you're doing 1 1/4" in your bio video). I think it would help you hold your inside edges on your turns a bit more, allowing you to make even sharper turns. But again, that's nitpicking. You're doing great. Keep it up! -
Messing around with a CCM FT4 Pro
shoot_the_goalie replied to shoot_the_goalie's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Played around with the FT4 again yesterday. I think it's definitely the dampened blade that I'm not used to. The feel and response from the stiff ST blade is worlds different from the FT4. Not saying the FT4 blade is bad...just not something I'm used to. With the FT4 I was losing pucks a bit more receiving passes, and flip/sauce passes were a little tougher for me. However, the puck comes off so much hotter on the FT4 than the ST, with less effort. So I'm gonna keep playing around with it as I can. Love the release and wondering if I could adapt to the dampened blade in time. -
Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener

I was thinking Marlborough...only place I know that has 8 sheets and Sparx represenation. -
Hey all. Question for those who've used an FT4 Pro. Got to play around with one the other day, and while it has a phenomenal release and is insanely light, I found to have a lot of trouble stick handling and catching passes with it. I usually use a Super Tacks AS2 Pro; The FT4 is the same blade, same flex, same length, etc. Would the more "dampened" blade be the culprit here? Or the kick point?
-
I love the feel of stiff blades. I like that I can feel exactly where the puck is on my blade without having to look. Stiff blades are way more responsive.
