Curve advice needed for a nice passing, deking blade
caveman27 replied to HockeyTactics's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Hard to say. You like to be a defensive center so you play with a long stick. I don't know. You might want to force yourself to play to your offensive attributes, and go with a blade that works for passing, handling and shooting instead of blocking. It might be that your existing stick is long, but if you cut it shorter, you force yourself to bend down more, and your lower hand grasps farther down the shaft to get more strength behind your saucer passes for better consistency and get more lift to your top shelf wrist shots. -
Well, that's early in years. Sorry to hear that. I've been lifting weights for years, like since 1989, and last year, I had hip arthoscopy because of hip pain, it would catch sometimes. The doctor just cleaned up some cartilage. He was going to shave down the bone too a bit where he saw it was pinching, or cam shaped, but after he got in with the arthroscope, he didn't bother shaving the bone down because there was so much worn out cartilage that he saw I would be getting a hip replacement soon anyway, so it wouldn't be worth going through the pain of recovering from shaved bone. He's estimating a hip replacement in two years. It feels better after the arthroscopy though. Oh, and an MRI in the hip is not a regular MRI. They have to inject a dye so stuff shows up. For that, they have to x-ray your hip while inserting in the needle with the dye. But, they first have to inject local anesthesia, first on the outside, and a second one that is deeper. Then, they aim the x-ray camera at your hip and the person sticks the needle with the dye deep into the hip, guiding the tip in while watching the x-ray monitor. This is one of the most painful experiences I have ever had. Then, you go to the MRI room within 30 minutes and get that done. And if you want to temporarily reduce pain with a cortisone shot in the hip, it's the same thing as the dye injection. The doctor uses the x-ray monitor to guide the tip of the needle inside the hip. I had that done years before. It's not a tiny needle.

OK. Well, if that is what floats your boat, that's fine. Not sure why you want the extra weight of extra padding if you aren't taking on NHL level hits and shots.
-
What I specifically meant to ask is "why do you want pro-stock pants with extra padding over pro-stock pants with normal amount of padding?" I bought pro stock CCM pants too, but without X or XTRA in the model name.
-
How much extra padding do you need in men's league hockey that regular pro-level pants can't handle?
-
Warrior Franchise is more traditional fit. I don't know about the fit of Covert models though. Not really sure if you need extra padding, they are heavier in weight but can handle clap bombs to the thighs.

Check out Ilya Kovalchuk sticks on prostockhockey.com

Yes. A couple stragglers in the league.
-
Interesting. I looked at pictures of the CCM pads. It's mainly elastic bands securing the pads to the legs with a really open knee area.

They weren't going to tell veteran team mates to sit out for the new guy. You seemed to have been shafted from the git go.

If you start to shorten your stick when should you change flex.
caveman27 replied to Beflar's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I wish I knew more about flex. I bought a Reebok Sickick shaft with 110 flex a couple of years ago because it was "on clearance" and I thought to myself, "What a deal!". I cut off 7 inches from the top and put on a carbon fiber replacement blade. It's the complete opposite of whippy. 😹 -
That would be an easy $400 discount, but you would need to have a Canadian friend receive the order to his Canadian address. https://www.sportchek.ca/help-desk/shipping-page/shipping-methods-page.html

Don't know his skate size, but maybe you can find a pair of new old stock Bauer Nexus 1N since the 2Ns are out.

Tibialis anterior muscle syndrome / shin splints
caveman27 replied to hockeydad3's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
1. You could see a physical therapist. 2. Try foam rolling. Get a stiff foam roller, it will be painful. Kneel on the foam roller starting right below your knee caps. Then, roll your shins over the roller until you get above your ankles, Roll back. Continue like 10 times. -

You can find the CCM pants with the code HPUCLP or HPUCLX at prostockhockey.com I don't know the model for CCM's retail pants. -
Any shin guards with good knee protection?
caveman27 replied to Utterkaos94's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I have Bauer Vapor X100. They aren't made anymore. Similar ones would be Bauer 1X Lite -

caveman27 replied to Beflar's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I usually cut off about 6 to 7 inches since I'm 5'6". I have to muscle most everything to avoid a flub: passes, wrist shots, snap shots, slap shots. -
That just looks wrong. Not sure what happened in the installation.

Are custom spec sheets just for professional/college/junior team equipment managers?
-
You could get a Sherwood and save some money.🐲

Oh, if you want to look for older composite shafts with non-grip and attach it to a separate composite blade, check out this Latvian hockey store, https://www.hokejam.com/hockey-sticks/ccm-vector-v8-0-junior-composite-hockey-shaft Yes, I've bought from them before. It's legit. Really, if he's 14, he'll probably want to get used to grip sticks as his shot gets harder and he'll want more grip.

Outside of the usual big internet stores, I check out www.sidelineswap.com and www.prostockhockey.com for deals.
