  1. It's rare to have adult ice hockey instruction, kind of like looking for adult instruction in basketball or baseball; there's an assumption that you played basketball or baseball as a child and as an adult, you are going to play it in amateur adult leagues. As for hockey tactics and skills, there are various youtube videos that can sort of help out. But nothing can replace on-ice instruction and practice.
  2. I have one in the form of a carbon fiber blade. I actually don't like it that much. It's a 3/8" curve so there's pluses and minuses with that. For some reason, I thought it was a 1/2" curve before I bought it online.
  3. I can understand not laying someone out in a non-checking league. What I try to do in one-on-one's is force them outside, block the puck with my feet if they try the "pass the puck between his legs and go around him and pick it up" move, stick-on-puck to block shot attempts, poke check, and it it's a patient puck handler who sees he can't get around me, he'll turn away at the goal line and give himself space and time for a pass. That or he's a faster skater who gets around me, dangles and snipes and the rest is up to the goalie.
  4. Well, I have no recommendations for shoulder pads, but I have a recommendation against getting Easton. They fit well on the shoulders and provide protection over the deltoids, upper chest and upper arms, but I do have some exposure in the belly area. There's a gap between the belly flap and the top of my pants. This is for my last two shoulder pads which are Easton S13 and Easton Stealth CX. I haven't been hit there, but I can see the gap before I put my jersey on.
  5. It was a nice breakout play, where the guy skating backwards passes it back to the other forward with forward momentum instead of turning and skating it in himself. Of course, he had to slow himself down or he would be offside. 25 already had backward momentum and the backwards pass ruined 25's timing and created time and space. If 25 slowed down to engage the puck-handler around the blue line, he would become a stand-still obstacle. If the puck handler gets around him, it becomes a three-on-one.
  6. Could you tell us about forward bend? Are you an aggressive skater and your upper body is bending forward while skating? You feel like your boots are like ski boots, you get no toe flick, and/or you feel like you are on cross-country skis or speed skates?
  7. Wow, people are selling donjoy braces online? Not sure if there's going to be a crackdown, that's a prescription-only medical device unless laws have changed. I have a Breg, but not for hockey use. I got it decades ago. Still good as new as I hardly used it. It's too wide for the pants and shin pads.
  8. Interesting. Maybe no pitch adjustment is needed, but I can see why you are having issues with sprint-like acceleration and deep turns. Does it feel like the skates are forcing your chest upright when you are bending deep into a cross over acceleration and you lose balance from it?
  9. It would nice if OP posted pictures of his old blades and new blades. Those who are sharpeners might get a better idea of what would work without having to bring your blades to a shop multiple times.
  10. If you reprofiled from a 10' to a 9' radius and you didn't notice a difference and you are experiencing tripping while accelerating, you might try an 8 foot radius with aggressive pitch. Another option is to do a combination radius, and get a 7 or 8 foot radius on the front half and a 9 or 10 radius on the back half also with aggressive pitch. You could also stick with a 9 foot radius and just try altering it to have an aggressive pitch. Also, what is your height and weight, skate size?
  11. I thought you said you had Supreme 2S pros, which have the TUUK Lightspeed 5, a removable blade holder.
  12. Single color CCMs are nice and cheap. The fabric is not cutting edge technology, but it holds together.
  13. Well, you can either try bauer 7.5 R, or CCM 7.5 EE. Also, another thing to try is Bauer 7.0 EE. Your mileage may vary when it comes to going down in size for a tighter fit.
  14. The person who baked them went way over 200 degrees.
  15. I baked my CCM JetSpeed's myself. I laid them down on a baking pan. It wasn't hot enough to melt through the outer layer of the skates. I only did it once. Not sure how much of a difference it made. It took awhile to break them in, but I didn't want to rebake them.
  16. Odd you should say that. I compared an old all-wood stick I have and it's shorter than my current sticks, I can't even imagine cutting my current sticks down an extra 2+ inches.
  17. Oh. Well, My HG41 having pretty good padding plus plastic inserts down the side of the hand on the pinky side. Not sure if that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. The Bauer 1N 4-roll gloves look like they have beefy padding along the pinky side. Not sure if beefy padding would help if your pinky and ring fingers are still healing.
  18. Well, they will be for direct shots to the back of the hand. NHLers wear them for that reason. Did you injure your hand from a slap shot, fall, or slash?
  19. I would suggest looking at all the ones you are interested in. Sometimes, the second picture with a view of the back shows them with shot blockers on them, but the code isn't different.
  20. I don't know how long it took you to grind that much metal down for the taller blade, and then to reprofile the radius on both of them. Just curious, how much time did that require?
  21. It the ends of the blade are even on the surface, it appears the blade on the front is ground down more, and there appears to be some negative pitch on the front blade too.
  22. I have a pair of HG41, not a 4-roll model, but they are pro stock from (shameless plug) www.prostockhockey.com These have good padding all around. Kind of stiff, not sure if that's all models or this one. The foam is dense and every segmented piece has a piece of polycarbonate. Every piece as in even the side pieces along the side of the hand including the pinky. But, if you want mega padding, look for the ones with the shot-blockers on the backs, like HG97SP
  23. My back surgery was a year ago and it turned out successful. I was able to play hockey this season.
