Agreed. I think these are technically YP19s, before Drury was a commercial pattern and a lot of guys were using the generic pro stock molds.

Picked these up this week and couldn't be more thrilled. 6x Foote Pro Stock Comp T-Flex Blades. Curve is a Drury clone. Nothing has ever come close to these in terms of puck feel for me. .

2013 Easton V-Series Catalogue
Cavs019 replied to JR Boucicaut's topic in 2013 Product Catalogue Reviews
I'm not going to continue to derail the thread but the "proper" shot you describe has become pretty obsolete and is rarely used at the NHL level. Stamkos and Semin are really the only noteworthy guys that shoot that way and both use modified Sakics, not a heel curve. The blade opening up is more a function of poor shooting mechanics and/or the shaft torquing out on you (See: Inno Novius). Its pretty clear that the reason the toe is stiffer is to generate more pop off the area where Easton thinks you should be releasing the puck (ie, the sweet spot). Given that the sweet spot on a heel curve is on...the heel, this seems pointless to me. -

I was being sarcastic (hence the emoticon) as I shoot off the heel and have been using Drury/Lidstrom for 10 years. Assuming the tech actually does what its supposed to, why would having a stiffer toe mean anything to someone buying this stick in a Lidstrom/Getzlaf or Modano/Zetterberg/Camalleri? -

So i'm supposed to shoot off the toe with a Lidstrom? Easton is marketing 100% of their sticks toward a shooting technique that probably 5% of players can pull off effectively. The other 95% are either heel/mid snap shooters with no "toe pull and rip" motion, true wrist-roll sweeping shooters, or people who will try to shoot off the toe because their "dual-lie" blade said so and shank everything into the stands. -
Who is the Bickell or Handzus in that top 6? They proved you don't have to hit the crap out of people to win, but you need guys who will go to the dirty areas and score ugly goals, or what I would describe as "physical" on the offensive side of the game. Maybe someone like a Ryan Jones can play that role, but that then displaces a Gagner or Perron to bottom 6 duty.

Jack was it a USA hockey sanctioned game or just pick up? Every kicking incident that I've witnessed over the years resulted in a pretty lengthy suspension.
-
Hemsky will be on the IR by October 20th so its moot. In all seriousness I think he gets moved for a top 4 Dman. He's in the last year of his deal I believe and having Hemsky or Perron on your 3rd line doesn't exactly bode well for Edmonton considering how physical the west is.
-
...hence the Nurse pick and their attempt to trade for Schneider. Ference should help and hopefully Schultz can progress after a full year of pro. That said, I doubt they are done dealing and its pretty transparent that Dubnyk isn't going to be the guy in net long term.
-
Agreed Chadd. I think Paajarvi tops out as a more skilled Stalberg which is the blueprint player for 3rd lines these days. For Edmonton, their top 6 will probably look something like this: Hall - RNH - Eberle Yakupov - Gagner - Perron Scary skill, but wont be too difficult to play against from a physicality standpoint. Tons of options on the PP as well.

MPS has always shown flashes of skill but couldn't really put it together in Edmonton. He's an incredible skater and solid in his own end, but he always seemed like the odd man out amongst their high picks, especially with Gagner finally coming into his own to some degree. I think a change of scenery will do wonders for these guys especially given the systems they are going to. Edmonton seems to run a pretty wide open offensive system which will be a great canvas for a creative player like DP57 to draw on, and at the same time, I think MPS will thrive under the more structured, defense first Hitchcock style of play.

Unless your foot is shaped like the Titanic I find the Nexus is too wide all around, especially in the heel. The Mission skates also allowed for way more range of motion in the top 3 eyelets.
-
I wish Bauer would release a skate with the Purefly/Flyweight supplefit? concept. They were a bit heavy relative to today's standards but my god were they comfortable.
-
The skates generally require a cool down period before use after they are baked. He basically went wild on synthetic ice while the materials were in their pliable state.

From a technical standpoint (fit notwithstanding) the Makos are a phenomenal skate, and I think most of the gearheads here on MSH would agree. However, our population (or people who are overly concerned/interested with the technical aspects of a product) represents a small percentage of the broader hockey playing community, and what I've seen is that the demographic buying an $800 skate is your typical PHEW-type player who is more concerned with aesthetics than function. This is where the Mako fails in my opinion, as I've heard things like "it looks like a rental skate" being thrown around my LHS and local rink. The unfortunate reality is that regardless of performance, concept, features, or fit, people will spend $800 on the Bauer alternative because "its prettier." This obviously isn't a new concept but it certainly applies here. /rant.

NHL players are the extreme when it comes to being a creature of habit. I don't think anyone is making that dramatic of a shift ever, let alone mid season.

2013 Bauer Hockey Catalogue
Cavs019 replied to JR Boucicaut's topic in 2013 Product Catalogue Reviews
X90 = 7.0 = X60? +/- some variance in spec? Any idea what the MSRP will be? -
New wheels. Finalized the setup with the tuuk swap this weekend.

K joke is dead.

If you end up not liking them consider me first in line to take them off your hands. I LOVE the XXX gloves.
-
What size are your 95s?, I'm a 7 narrow guy also.
-
Just write what you want in the additional comments section. I requested no stripes on the backrolls and only on the cuff roll and thats exactly what they did for me.
-
As JR said, those are as retail as they come. Say goodbye to your anklebones as you once knew them.
-
If you don't mind me asking, what size hustlers did you pick up and also, what sizes have you worn in other pants? I'm a RBK medium and cant decide if I should go medium or large.
-
I don't think its a step forward, or backwards for that matter. It's an entirely different skate.
