Saw the hit on NHL on the fly but it wasn't a good angle. If the initial point of contact was to the head, he should be suspended. Even though it was against Cooke.
-
i got a good laugh out of that too. poor guy. He's going to get a chance to play every night down here. I don't think anyone expected him to be in Pittsburgh all season, they were hit pretty hard with injuries when the Caps sent him down and just needed a body.
-
One thing that has to be considered is how Emery would take any trade. He doesn't have a history of working well with others in the crease. I don't think there is another team that would take him as part of any package.
-
With the $12 they have left under the cap, what do you expect them to do? Wishful thinking of finding a way to get Biron back...... It's hard to say how much they will have to spend with the long term injury exemptions. Biron only makes $1.4, so it may be possible. That would amount to Flyers management admitting to a mistake, especially given the way Biron left the organization.

Sounds like exactly the stuff that Cooke does on a regular basis. I'm not defending Keith by the way, just saying that Cooke has been the kind of guy that hits and runs for his entire career.

Considering how many time Cooke should have been suspended (and wasn't) over the last decade, I really have a hard time feeling bad for him.

Bradley never got his hands above his waist, there is no way you can give him a major for that. Carcillo had his gloves of and was trying to goad him into a fight for five or six seconds. As soon as he saw Bradley was going to take him up on it, he fired a knockout blow before the gloves had even hit the ice. That wasn't a fight, Carcillo suckered him. I've seen games where two guys have squared off and dicked around for a while and the refs will put two up for delay of game, so there is no mandatory five for dropping the gloves. The same thing for scrums where half the gear ends up on the ice but nobody ends up in the box. Gloves on the ice mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. All of that said, Colin Campbell will cite the fact he was going to drop his gloves as a reason not to suspend Carcillo.
-
Carcillo just laid claim to the doghouse for a while. Before the commercial I told my wife that it should be a 9 minute powerplay, but I assumed they would find a way to knock it down to 5 or 7. Kudos to the res for making the right call. Scored two during the major and will start the second with a PP as well.

That's great as long as it doesn't happen at the Olympics or during the playoffs. Olympics sure, playoffs... I would venture a guess that the Penguins will be in a good enough spot to rest some key guys up prior to the post season. As was stated earlier in the year rest throughout the year is key for these guys. Groins will always affect NHL players and the compressed schedule doesnt really help anyone injury wise. Hopefully its more precautionary than anything and he'll return in a game or two. At any rate, Geno is healthy soooo and almost all the defense is back so things are still looking better than they did a week or two ago :D Having two true superstars makes it easier to weather the loss of one for a few games.

yep nothing just foam, he's nuts Some of the high density foams are quite protective.
-
It has for the last couple years. I caught a lot of crap for saying his groin problems would keep coming back when he started having the problems. Problems like this keep coming back for the rest of your career.

Around midnight I couldn't sleep and was getting bored. Just finished building another guitar out of the pile of parts in the closet. Not sure if I'm going to sell this one so I can buy the parts for one I really want to build or if I'm going to give it away as a christmas present. The four other spare bodies and two extra necks are going on ebay this weekend. Lots of cleaning going on this week.

A couple years back we spent the night in Toronto and when we showed up in the morning US Immigration decided that our first officer (co-pilot) had "incomplete" paperwork. Next thing we knew he disappeared behind a couple doors with blacked out windows. Five hours later another guy was flown in and we headed home.

I would have loved to see Hartley back in the NHL. Even better if he was just down the road. I get nothing

That's an odd time, my guess is Laviolette will be there. Otherwise it makes no sense for an 8PM press conference on a Friday night.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=300811 hawks ain't gonna change much next few years Hence the use of the past tense, "The thought WAS......" I'd just like to go on the record now that giving Keith a no movement clause might be the dumbest thing I've seen in a long time. I think I understand the thinking behind it, though. It might be tough to get a guy to sign that long-term if they have the fear in their head of being wheeled to hockey purgatory for a large balance of their contract. It's still a bad move on the part of management. I think contract length and "no movement" clauses will be addressed in the next CBA.

I certainly hope so, they're usually hamstrung by their mid-season coaching changes and promote from within out of necessity as much as by choice. As a hockey fan, I hope this means the team will be playing a more up-tempo style.

He's not a good coach and he's not using his talent to the best of their abilities. Like Andy Murray, he's coaching to avoid losing more then he's trying to win. He's been living off his phantoms legacy for a long time and that will only get you so far. He's at the end of the line. My personal opinion is that someone will get shipped out before he's fired. That is if he really has the vote of confidence Homer said he does. One thing I've noticed is that there seems to be a divide in the dressing room. And the Phantom team that won the Calder had a lot of talent. Look at how many of those guys play/played in the NHL. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues...0007932005.html It's much easier to win when you have more talent than the other team.

The thought was that Chicago would have to make a trade to announce the signing of the three guys today. My guess is they talked Keith into taking less in order to keep the team intact through the rest of the season and the playoffs.
-
If it is as you described a five and game for a check from behind would be an appropriate penalty, but a lot of refs are unlikely to call a penalty like that, especially in a close game or one with playoff implications.

If you watch video replay, and see the angle from behind OV, his shoulder and leg are in perfect line with one another. OV goes in straight (l), while Gleason leans (/), and as a result OV's shoulder and upper body hit nothing and continue moving forward, while his lower body bowls into Gleason. It wasn't an intentional knee, just the result of one going for a hit and another trying to dodge it. Some times you can't dodge the whole thing, and lower bodies collide. That's the thing to me, Ovechkin never picks up the foot or moves it over to catch Gleason. His right foot stays planted the entire time despite Gleason's movement. The only thing he could have done is bail on the hit completely and try to get out of the way, but that's asking way too much.
