Six pack

Recommended Posts

So now that I am getting close to my weight goal (170 now, wanted to be at 165), I am getting to the point where I can almost make out my six pack. I have been to 160 before and still didn't have one, even though I know at the time I was stronger and leaner than I am now. Anything is better than where I was on Jan 3rd (205 for those of you who didn't read the previous posts). I know that more than working out, to show your six pack you must diet properly.

So, I was wondering, for you guys who do have a six pack - what is your diet like? What kinds of foods do you normally eat? What kinds of foods do you avoid?

Well, i can't say anything because I'm a girl and really don't want a six pack...but my youngest brother (who is 15) and my boyfriend both have 6 packs.

My brother drinks a lot of protien drinks and eats very little starch, mainly because he doesn't like them.

My boyfriend is a gym fanatic. He is also an increadibly healthy eater. Lots of veggies, mainly green ones. Small, constant portiens (usually about 1/2 of rice, 1/2 cup of veggies, small piece of meat)

A really big deal, and I know for me it works, DRINK LOTS OF WATER. I usually drink about 2 litres of water a day, 3 if I have a massage, 3+ if I'm playing.

Don't drink caffiene/pop. It doesn't rehydrate you, it will make you more thirsty. I drink gatorade/powerade after practice, but thats the only time.

I don't have a six pack as much as I have a keg. I maintain it with alcohol. It takes a lot of work, but you know what....it's worth it

It's just a fuel tank for a sex machine. That's what I tell Kristin.

As aforementioned, drink a lot of water.

Foods that help get rid of/burn fat are good. i.e. yogurt, cottage cheese (very very good), and fruits and vegetables.

A lot of cardio is going to make the muscles stand out, giving you the "ripped" look...

I'm a quasi-vegetarian and pretty much eat a lot of veggies and fruits. I chug a lot of water and a lot of cardio rather than actually bulk-up. I've pretty much given up on gaining anything more and going for my second full marathon next month.

Do about 70 situps with your feet elevated about 8 inches off the ground everyday. You start seeing results within a few weeks.

Actually thats incorrect. If you work your abs hard, emphasis on hard, your abdominals will get bigger and each section will become more defined. That supplemented with proper diet/cardio = diesel abs.

cottage cheese (very very good)

ugh. I hate cottage cheese...

As do I.

There is nothing I hate more than cottage cheese.

It's actually pretty good if you stir in some bacon bits.

What were we talking about again?

So I guess analogg beat me to this topic as I was going to start a similar one but I've been wondering what is simply the best way to get a 6 pack? I have a bowflex and in their book they have their own routine but I noticed its a lot of leg excersises as well. Anyone tried it? Also I bough the Men's Health Abs Magazine, anyone tried that? I'm 15 so if you guys could tell me the specifics like diet, how long I should work out for etc, it would be apperciated

i kinda have one and i eat anything i want. u just gatta do a LOT of sit ups

You're the kind of person who just has better definition than others. Lots of protein, cut down calories, lots of water, cut down empty calories (chocolate, etc) and that's as good as you can get. I've been in much better shape than some of my friends and they get great ab definition, while I just get a flat stomache. A lot of it is just how your body is.

Analog is right. You can do 10,000 crunches a day, if you have fat over your abs, they won't show. You have to eat right and get rid of the fat. I actually read an article a couple of weeks ago that said you don't really need to work your abs that much to have a six pack, you just need to cut the fat that is hiding them. The author suggested that most people's abs are defined enough from basic movement to have a six pack if they killed all of the fat covering them. I'm not sure I buy that completely.

Anyway, there is a book called the Abs Diet by men's health. It's a full diet plan and exercise program. I wasn't that fond of the workouts but the diet and nutrition parts of the book are great. It lays out a real good nutrition plan that has a lot of options. I dropped close to 40 pounds with the diet and my own workout plan.

This may be something that's common knowledge and it's going to sound obvious to some people, but the most general guideline to having a visible six pack and looking better is simple: lower your body fat percentage. Basically, you do that by eating leaner and burning more calories than you consume (if you're trying to lose weight). Doing ab exercises will make your abs more visible, but it won't matter if they're covered under a thick layer of fat.

Plus you need good genes.
