Do you remove your wedding ring before skating?

Recommended Posts

In the locker room last Thursday one of the guys in the locker room commented on my rings. He said I should not skate with them. What do you think?

I never wear mine, ever. My old goalie doesn't wear his anymore either, mostly because he broke it catching one of my slappers.

Not married, but I take off the ring I wear on my other hand when I play. I know lots of guys who play with wedding rings on though.

I know of one guys who plays with a watch on...it's a nice watch too.

Saw one of my teammates get his cut off after he dislocated his ring finger. If you are willing to take that risk, by all means leave it on. P.S. when I am working in my woodshop, I remove all rings, or any loose fitting clothing. Point being, if it can be dangerous, it WILL be dangerous.

I take mine off. Aside from the risk of injury factor, it sometimes pinches when gripping my shaft. lol That sounds kind of ummm....

Anyways... I have played with mine on during pick up sometimes and as I said have some pinching. I also bent it a few times and had to have it reshaped.

I will never wear my watch. That's dumb. I know it will get broke, and I like my watch.

When I get married I'd take it off, I leave all valuables in my glove box. Too many instances of people getting into locker rooms and stealing wallets, cell phones, or whatever.

wearing it is asking for trouble, unless you want it cut off your finger after bashing your hand. Plus, I don't see how it doesn't cut up your hand. I forgot and wore mine once and I ripped a hole in the pad of my hand and my finger.

I guess that I am the odd man out. I have actually developed a heavy superstition with having my ring on. I forgot to take it off one night at drop-in and had the best game I have ever played. Ever since then, I have kept it on as good luck.

BTW, its nothing fancy. Plain brushed titanium. If it breaks on me, I'm only out a few hundred.

That happened to me a few years ago when I was playing golf, I think I threw down a 39 on the front 9.

Better to take rings off because if your finger swells up due to a break or dislocation you're in for a lot of trouble because getting them cut off isn't an easy process.

I always take the ring off. With my luck, I would catch a puck, bend the ring, and get my finger mashed in the process. My wife is already half pissed off when I'm out skating. No need to add gas to that fire.

I give mine to my Wife before I leave for the rink, she puts it on her right ring finger. I tried to play with it once, that lasted about 30 seconds.

Thats my luck... <_<

Caught a puck that was going faster then I thought and bent it on cutting into my finger, it made it impossible to come off so me and the guys did some DIY on it, bent it back the other way by hitting it with a goalie stick until I could pull it off. (Not the most pleasent experiance of my life.)

I never play with any jewelery on. I always leave all my valuables at home and only bring my ID, health care card and money for ice time with me.

only worn my ring about 8 times since I got married... and not because there are cute chicks aroudn either...

I haven't seen my wedding ring since the night I was married twelve years ago. I have no idea where The Big D keeps it.

my excuse for not wearing it was that i used to work in a company that made military tanks... climbing up and down the machines would pretty much scratch it up real bad...

I wear it for hockey, but take it off for golf. I think I will stop wearing it on the ice, just to be safe.

i remove all rings before playing.

you never know when you will jam your finger and have it sweel up so big that you cant take the ring off!

thats the main reason i see for not wearing rings.

i allways wear a small silver necklace when i play. it doesnt get in the way, and can easily be tucked inside a jersey or shirt.

the bad thing about taking it off is that you run the risk of losing it!

your wife wouldnt be too happy with ya!
