goal celebrations

Recommended Posts

I had a friend once fish the puck out of the net, pretend to sign it, and hand it to the goalie. It was a really dick move, but pretty funny in retrospect.

pretty much whatever comes out comes out. honestly nothing is planned, but when i'm so into a game and playing all out, putting one in the net is going to get some emotional response. it usually seems to be a Rick Flair (Wooo!) coupled with both arms siezing up as if doing a bicep curl. like i said, its spontaneous, and unplanned. it just happens in the heat of the moment/game.

Sometimes I get a little more excited and I'll do a fist pump, but normally I just skate to the face-off or the bench. Fist taps to anyone who skates to me or who's by me. In football my favorite player was Barry Sanders, and in hockey one of my favorites is Datsyuk. Those guys are pretty classy and just act like they've been there before. They just let their game speak for itself. I play rec league, and it's pretty low level as well. No need to go crazy with a celebration. It's a little aggravating if someone goes ballistic about scoring a goal, but what are you gonna do? It's no-check rec league, and for all I know it might be his first goal in 10 years of playing. I know I was pretty excited when I scored my first-ever goal.

I will only celebrate a goal by yelling is when it is a game winner against a team we shouldnt beat. In all other circumstances, when I score, I simply raise my stick with the left (lower) hand so it isnt held very high, and skate back to either the bench or line up for the puck drop. I will bump gloves with a team mate if they made a great pass, and will bump with others if they make their way to me or I cross paths with them going back to my position or bench. Whenever I see others score goals, I am always impressed by reserved celebrations. You definitely get the impression that they have done it many times before, and it can be demoralizing to the opposition, where excessive celebrations can get the opposition pumped up. But in the end it is a game, and any celebration that is genuine and spontaneuos cant be all bad.

I did scream once and held both arms in the air, and hugged a guy....it was his first season on skates, and his first goal EVER, and it was the game winner against the first place team (we were second to last). I was more excited than for any goal I scored. It was awesome.

The only cheering done after my goals is by my mom..she comes to all my games and screams at anyone who comes within 2 feet of me.

I am 36 by the way!

LOL

On the subject of celebrations...

I've seen a guy go by an opposing player (he knows well) while jerking off his own stick... ending his celebrating with a spit to simulate eja...

He did it all with a big grin on his face, but I still thought it was semi- out of line.

I used to just skate off after a goal (unless it was a really important one), until one game I cut toward the boards after putting it in and proceeded back to the faceoff circle (we were down still) and the ref didn't see the puck go in. I had to stop after I realised the whistle didn't sound and go nuts to get the goal!

Now I'll give a raise of the fist/stick or something before I give the teammates a 5 to make sure they know it's gone in :P

I had a friend once fish the puck out of the net, pretend to sign it, and hand it to the goalie. It was a really dick move, but pretty funny in retrospect.

That's pretty funny actually!

We've actually had that several times with my team...puck goes in and out and the refs don't notice what's going on.

Same thing happened to Mark Parrish last year...he scored and they didn't bother to review it because it bounced out. Wild ended up losing the game, and Parrish got booted off the team. Might have been a lot different if he went nuts.

I don't throw out any individual celebrations for mens league goals.

We did start doing the bench skate by for a little while (like a lot of the pro teams do), just because it was funny. Other teams don't seem to like it, which makes it funnier.

I just don't score.

me either...I'm not sure what I would do if I scored...lol

I think I'd go with the fist bump down the bench...I like that and think it's classy!!!

I'm always more excited to see a teammate score a quality or big goal. If I score, my stick goes up in the air and I skate to the bench for the team hand bump.

I play in Mens leagues as I am darn old... So no real celebrating besides bumpin fists... some real tight good games will get an arm raise if the game warrants... But when we travel to tournaments...seem all old guys remember how to raise the sticks!

I raise the stick, whoop, and bump fists with my teammates. I also do the same thing when they score and when we win.

The cockyest funniest and less amount respect celly i've ever seen is after a goal the goal scorer skates and slides on is bum, while acting like he is paddle a canoe with his stick while his team mates are behind him shotting the shotguns(sticks) at him

Waved bye bye to the visiting teams bench in college after a shorty to put us up 3 late in the 3rd. I haven't so much as raised a stick since college though, no need to in beer league.
