Glove transplant.....

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of taking the fingers and cuff roll off of one glove and putting it on a different glove. Both gloves are Easton 4-rolls and I would probably be sending it to FIBM to have them do it. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

i have no experience, but it seems like it might be an expensive experiment. have you gotten a quote from them at all? (not trying to talk you out of it, just the first thing i thought)

just off the top off my head, you would need to remove gussets and palms, then fingers, then re-sew fingers, new gussets, then palms. same situation with the cuff, would need to rip seams, then sew back on. seems quite labor intensive

Why don't you just go see Leon and see if it can be done instead of shipping them across the country?

I was thinking of that as well. I wasn't sure if he did that sort of thing though....but if he did that would be great, obviously.

Keep in mind that they are the same model gloves - this would just be to mix the colors up a bit.

I recall someone on here saying that FIBM refused to undertake splitting one-piece fingers on gloves.

If that's the case, I can't imagine them catering to your mad scientist whims.

I hope it works out, though - I'm intrigued.

If FIBM can't do a decent repalm of a z-air without bunching material and missing stitches, they won't be able to do this well. Take it to Leon, if Marz has given him gloves to work on, he's gotta know what he's doing.

LOL.....so should I call him? ;)

What about switching cuff rolls? That can be done in a relatively short amount of time, correct?

Coming from a glove whore like myself, this is a bit ridiculous.

I don't know the guy but I do know there is a price for everything in this world and if you really want it done someone will do it for the right price, no matter how much of a pain it is. My question is, would it be easier/possible to just order new gloves in a weird/crazy colour scheme than to frankenstein them yourself?

yeah me as well now rustpot, maybe someone can photoshop the final product. A buddy of mine picked up a pair of 5 year old 5000's in that clear/green/yellow that were used as display gloves I'm sure and if they're more hilarious than those I applaud you.

hardly even need to order them, Hockey Giant is already catering to frankenstein gloves without the mad scientist pricetag :P

New gloves are not that bad, if you get a used pair off of Ebay, in Nylon they will come pre-worn in and still plenty of life left. My two pairs of Vapor XXX's have been great. Im currently on TPS R8 Pro Lite, all Nylon which took me mere weeks to wear in.

1) Waste of money.

2) Waste of Leon's time.

3) Did I mention this is a waste of money?

4) Leon is going to look at you, then look at the gloves, then basically tell you in his broken English with heavy Ukraine accent that you are an idiot. Next, he'll then proceed to quote you the same as buying a brand new pair of high-end gloves ($175ish) to do the job (keep in mind the incredible amount of labor you are asking him to do by dismantling two pairs of gloves and then sewing them back together, plus, having to do 2 re-palms in the process). For the time involved in doing this, I'd say that would be more than a fair price.

5) I once saw, and I must give the man credit by name, Terry Geer when he was with the Avs take a pair of 5 roll NBH gloves and turn them into 4 roll for Alex Tanguay. It was such an incredible job and there was NO WAY of telling (after the fact) that the gloves had started as 5 rolls.

Was there a particular reason they did this?

maybe they didn't have 4-rolls for him and he needed them before nbh could get him new ones.

for anybody thats willing to brave looking at PHEW on facebook, theres a picture of a blues player (Jannsen maybe?) with a RBK cuff sewn onto a vector glove. If i wasnt technologically ignorant i would just put a pic of it on here.

I would like to create frankenstein 4rolls with a new cuff. i like where your heads at fletch.

getting the cuff taken off and sewn back on wouldnt be too big of a problem, I think I would have a problem with getting the new material overtop, and getting it to stay tight.

keep us posted!
