I'm done

Recommended Posts

Last time I skated was the MSH skate in December and I dried out my equipment and put it in my bag.

My parents kept on moving my bag closer to the edge of the patio, where today I discovered it took on water.

All of my stuff has mold growing on it. Looks like I'm losing everything and won't even have skates.

I threw everything in the pool but I don't think it is helping.

That sucks :( sorry to hear about that... I had a similar situation when storing my gear in my fiancee's basement, I got lucky and only had to replace half the stuff. I hope you can salvage some of your gear atleast, good luck with it.

I already said it but it really is like a death in the family for hockey players. Sorry to hear... thats awful news. There have got to be some reps or something that can hook you up with at least some stuff though right?

Well if there is ever anyone to lose all of there gear it might as well be JR... at least he's got all the hook-ups and will come out of it with custom made/unreleased prototype everything.

Wow, hope you get stuff rolling agin quickly. I had the same thing happen with my old stuff when my folk's house flooded some years ago. Thankfully though it was long after I had stopped playing back then. But it was some decent old vintage Bauer, CCM, Cooper, Jofa, and Sherwood gear.

Even new or prototype gear can't replace vintage, worn in, custom gear.

Sorry to hear the bad news JR.

I am not making light of the situation but if you lived where I live you would only have ice build up!

Mold or ice which is worse? Ever try putting on a frozen nut cup!? I would rather be buying a new one that strap another one of those things on, the boys have yet to drop back into place to this day. :o

If you look at the top of the page there is a thread, "Good Deal Thread" might come in handy.

I think you have to look at this like the glass is half full, now you get to get new gear.

Seriously though good luck I feel for you.

Maybe we should take a collection! I will start buy offering a pair of gloves.

So the bag was zipped closed, water got in and then the mold started from baking in the sun?

Exactly right.

I had two pair of Z-Air gloves in there, my custom nylons are the ones that got hit, however I think if I just overhaul the entire glove there's an outside chance it may be salvaged. The new leather pair had none on it. Vapor XXXX Pros had some on the exterior and all over the palm. Guess it's time to make those Warrior customs.

Elbow pads (Jofa 5044) got hit as well. I have a backup pair of those but the straps are blown out. Looks like Peaches is going to be getting a ton of stuff sent to him in Portland or I'm going to be hurtin' for a while.

The authentic Capitals practice jersey CapsFan gave me got ruined as well. My grey MSH4 jersey got some on there too. The skates should be fine. Shinpads I have another pair of and but I think I can salvage the ones that got hit (Jofa 3175).

My girdle didn't get touched.

But yeah, a lot of this stuff is pretty frickin' old. Yes, I may be a gear whore and all that, but there's a lot of tried-and-true equipment that I absolutely would not part with. Probably not playing tonight, LOL

Maybe a bit of hope here...

I used to work at a cleaning facility for a restoration company last year. We used to clean things from power tools, to hockey equipment to what ever else had been involved in fires, sewer back up's, mold jobs pretty much anything that falls into these categories. The cleaner we had was pretty big, we just placed all the items we wanted to clean on a big tray put it in the machine and it did a hell of a good job. We were able to take the smell of cat piss out of guys brand spanking new goalie pads. Story was the wife bought them for him as an X-mas gift, stored them in the basement and well the cat pissed on them lol. Anyways, I'm just saying that if you go find some place in your surrounding who does this kind of work... well the cleaning aspect of the job haha, give them a shout its really cheap and you might be able to get some other stuff cleaned as well. I remember hearing somewhere that we had the same washing machine as the Boston Bruins. The owner mentioned something one day about when Thorton played and got his huge infection on his arm that they bought this machine to clean the equipment. I may be out in left field right now but im sure if you can save any equipment at this point and time you would.

Edit: This isn't one of those ozone type cleaning machines or w/e they are, just ahead ups... its exactly like a powerful dishwasher/washing machine. Another trick is cleaning you stuff out in the dishwasher. The heat of the steam and the really hot water kills a lot of bacteria. Stay away from cleaning it with LAUNDRY DETERGENT or JAVEX, BLEACH etc... The best kind cleaning product to kill the mold bacteria is something as simple as dish soap. Mold can start growing withing 3-5 days of the initial accident or in your case leaving you bag wherever you left it lol.

Hope you get back on the skates soon. I'd offer gear, but mine's midget sized. I know the feeling of not playing for a while, been on the shelf for six weeks with vertigo.

My wife took our daughter to a pond practise a few weeks back, later some prick broke the car window to steal our GPS....popped the trunk and took my wife and daughters gear. Its rough losing your hockey gear-watching my daughter struggle breaking in an entire set of equipment at once. She's 8 and is sucking it up without complaint-you can do it JR ;)
