Devils players cannot wear any number above 40. It may be 35 now because when Scott Clemensen came back to the Devils last season he wore 35 when he wore 40 his first stint.

Marquee players are the exception (Mogilny)

It wasn't like that all the time, Stephane Richer wore #44

No numbers over 30? Sounds like my juniors team. You HAVE to have 2-28 if your a player. I'm a traditionalist and don't want to see a bunch of kids wear numbers 30-98, (and those idiots who wear 99), but its kind of ridiculous in today's world not to allow it. I can see a cap at only 8 players or something above 30, i wouldn't want the whole team to do it, but no one? Weak.

I only play adult league now, so not really concerned with numbers that people wear. But in Beer League, they gave me #99 on a team.. just because Gretzky was my favourite player for a long time growing up (yes, being that age and a kings fan...) and my buddy knew that.

It is funny, because I have never been chirped so much playing in adult league before I got that number. Not that it bothers me, but I find the people that do the chirping are the idiots (I mean if the only basis to give someone a hard time in mens league is the number on a back, that is retarded). I mean it is only mens league hockey... who cares what number someone wears.. hell there was a player wearing #144. Who the hell cares....

I do not get penalties, or do not play in a league where I get a bunch of points, so most of the s*** I do have to take is simply because of that number, where as where I picked my number on another team... I never get chirped.

Maybe in junior or whatever I can see it... or if a number is retired.. sure. But they are just numbers on the back of a sweater to identify a player.

I'm sorry, anybody who has the guts to wear 99 deserves every chirp that he hears at any level and any place. That is a sacred number and you better be prepared to put up with some s**t if you wear it.

or 66

double true. Those are big shoes to pretend to fill. Wasn't there an AHL scrub who got called up from the Marlies that wore 66 last year in Pittsburgh.

By the sounds of it i'm surprised Lou allows players to wear shields and composite sticks!

For the record, according to The Hockey News, Devils and Boston have the lowest number of roster players NOT wearing visors, 14. Minnesota is on the other end with the highest number of players wearing visors, 18.

Hence marquee player. I'm actually surprised they have Neidermayer wearing 21. I thought for sure they'd let him have his old number.

I guess I was wrong about the recent guy being the first. Still not a routine allowance though.

Crap...there goes my tribute to Wilf Paiment. wink.gif

It would be kinda fun to screw with people with that.... Put Paiment as the NOB and see how many get it. Not many I would assume.

Isn't the Marlies the Toronto feeder? Regardless, I HIGHLY doubt that A) Anyone would even have the balls to play for the Pens wearing 66, and B] if said ballsy player did come up, the team would even consider the absurd notion.

I'm guessing that the poster meant he was playing for Toronto in pittsburgh. It would be rather impossible to do that playing for the pens.

Yah it was during a Leafs-Pens preseason game I think. I can't remember his name, but I do remember that he got booed every time he touched the puck. That's a serious offense in these parts.
