Bauer 2010/2011 sneak peek...

Recommended Posts

As JR said, TotalONE tongue is totally(how'd you like that!) different. It is not white felt. It is a stand alone special item to the TotalONE. Only ONE100 and below have white felt tongues.

did the tongue thing come from one of the goalie pads that seems to have the same feature? i think it was either a rbk or bauer one

The itech ones .. I know what your talking about, that could possibly be where bauer got it from

The RD & D in this design is years in the making. This concept did not come from outside Bauer's design teams. these people are incredibly smart, dynamic and extremely forward thinking. They have the ability to think way, way, way outside the box.

Reading the specs on the new Bauer skates (not only the TotalONE, but in general), one has to wonder, what are the other companys doing, I mean come on, get a pair of Bauer skates, cut them up and try to copy something from them, do something. They're literally years ahead of the competition. Some user said that a RBK rep told him they have a Bauer killer in their next skate, now I don't know if that was just a pathetic lie or if he was in denial. Oh and almost forgot about the new Easton skate and can't wait the new Graf skate which I don't even know if it's announced and if it, most likely will be something very similar to last gen.

Those big bucks in R&D are paying of in the end, no surprise there

Reebok doesn't have a "Bauer killer" coming up but word is that they are very confident that it will be something that will be able to compete with Bauer.

Reverse engineering in hockey skates is pretty difficult. The goalie guys do it all the time, though.

I was wondering when someone was going to spill the beans on the interchangeable inserts in the tongue.

I wasn't spilling the beans, Bauer and I discussed it and decided to announce the specs this way.

Too true... if only because there isn't enough money in goalie gear to make a patent suit worthwhile. If it were, Pete Smith could have the whole industry over a barrel on prior art.

Bad phrase on my part. It should have been more like, "I was wondering when the tongue would become public information".

Hey JR, I have a question about the Nike/Bauer partnership that hopefully you could shed some light on. When they were co-branded, was Bauer given access to all of Nike's proprietary technology such as Free, Zoom Air, and Flywire? Reason I ask is because I work in the skate/snowboard industry and some of the features you're describing on the TotalOne skate are similar to what NikeSkateboarding and NikeSnowboarding are using in their newest shoes/boots regarding removable tongue inserts and grip fitting etc. I've read Bauer was run pretty independently while they were partnered up, but it's interesting to see some similarities being used in the new line of Supreme skates. Thanks for any info you could pass on.

Keep in mind that the concept for TotalONE probably goes back at least two years (I know that when ONE95 was being released they already had the next series mapped out) and they were with Nike then. Bauer used Nike technology (Zoom Air/Dri-Fit/Nike Pro Compression) on a few of their products, but don't take that statement from me that this is one of them, because I can't answer that question.

There were a lot of technologies developed by both sides, and it would not be a slight to either of them to draw from the other while they were together.

The new concepts for TotalONE have been worked on for over a very long period of time. This project does go back a lot farther than two years. JR and I both know the guys working on this. We just each get a bit of different info each time JR and I talk to them.

Maybe he was busy. There is more to life than MSH! OMG!!

Everything comes to he who waits. Some just have to wait longer than others.

No rush for me....I unfortunately only make it on here about a few times a week and usually miss all the good stuff ;)

Thanks for the info JR and DS, I can't wait to see the TotalOnes.

+1...thanks for the info! I love reading about it here first!

Can consumers expect to see a consistant drop in price on One95s or will that be very shop-specific based on how they approach their inventory?

Any more info on the new goal skate. I assume it is stiffer/stronger due the the fact that they lessened cowling protection significantly, especially in the inner ankle. Also, is the cutout on the inside of the foot supposed to allow the goalie to keep his edge longer, making butterfly pushes easier?

Just want to put this out there -

I have been asked by a few people whether or not I have the catalogue and when I will be posting it. The answer is yes, but I will not be posting it.

There are a couple of reasons behind this; one, most dealers have not seen the product, let alone the catalogue. Two, I will provide a comprehensive review of the product along with the catalogue. When that happens and when the time is right, we'll do it then.

If the catalogue leaks, please do me a favor and do not link to it. We tend to do things a little more professional around here, and that won't change.

It has additional pieces added into the skate to improve comfort and stability. The boot is not overly stiff either, it is also very light weight and it is one skate to challenge the other skate manufacturers big time

This is always something people ask when something new is coming out and people are asking when is the old model going down in price. Now what happens in most cases is that say bauer has X amount of one95 skates available in there warehouse they will send an email to there reps delegating Y amount of pairs from there warehouse to sell and the reps will then go to there key stores and offer them this skate at a reduced cost and what stores will do then is cost average out what they have currently to make it so they dont lose money on the skate but offer a great deal price. So to answer your question it can vary from shop to shop.

If I am not mistaken, Bauer is completely out of stock on ONE95 skates. So, it is whatever is in stores at this point, and totally up to the shop as to how much and when they will reduce inventory.

You, sir, are not mistaken. I checked inventory in USA warehouse. They are wiped out.

So there will be no top end Supreme available until May once the one95 stock runs out in the stores? That seems odd. It seems like that favors the big guys who can stock a lot of merchandise and squeezes the LHS's who won't be able to get one95's for their customers who might want them.

No, that's smart business.

You're selling through your product and not having to liquidate it at end of season.

They're closing them out so early though. There is no reason they can't wait until January to sell them to the online blowout specialists. Then again, better forecasting would result in fewer closeouts and less devaluation of the product.

F the online blowout specialists. Bauer didn't overproduce the product and let the market get wrecked. That's a bad thing?

Sure the market was worse this year, but how do you explain every other year or the timing?
