Bauer 9900 Helmet

Recommended Posts

I've been an observer on modsquad for a long time but my post count is low, so I'd appreciate it if you guys don't disregard this thread due to that alone. I also want to preface this by saying that I've searched many times, and in many different ways for anything on this topic.

I was in my local proshop today and I was talking with my buddy there about how careless the hockey companies are about releasing new gear these days. It seems as though you used to be able to buy gear knowing full well that it would be top of the line for at least two years. Now, every major brand is re-labeling their product or launching a new line.

One such case is the new bauer helmet coming out... I heard that it's going to be labeled the 9900. So I'm asking the modsquad community to post any info/pics/comments on this new helmet.

I imagine that the styling/design is going to be similar to the 9500. As for padding, it seems as though there's a new "Strongest possible foam" coming out yearly.

i think part of your point stems from the fact that some releases are "flops." hypothetically is a company releases a product that tanks it makes no sense to revamp it and release it under a new name. new number or label = newest latest greatest to the average consumer.

Sounds like it could be the helmet we saw Eric Staal wearing a little while back at the Bauer photo shoot

No, Staal is wearing the 7500, which is the 5500 replacement. Updated styling, same fit.

9900 is a Bauer-branded and slightly tweaked 9500. The logo had to change but the fit was slightly altered to accommodate more heads.

Simply put, Bauer took the 9500 shell and married the 8500 interior fit to the new 9900. I wear a 9500, have tried on an 8500 in my shop, and tried on the 9900 last week. The fit is extremely close to the 8500 as it sits deeper on your head while the helmet is much lighter than an 8500. And Bauer has developed a new EPP style foam that sets the bar higher for their competition. If the 9500 fits you well, jump all over it at a low down price, otherwise the 9900 is worth waiting for in terms of top end helmet protection and fit.

As regards the 7500, Bauer has corrected the long standing problem on the 5500 of trying to get the helmet sizing sliding more easily. The 7500 adjusts a whole lot better than the 5500 ever did. There is also a new ventilation styling and an EPP 1/2 liner system with PORON inserts. A very well done upgrade to an industry benchmark in helmets.

8500 will be Canada only, 9500 will be replaced by 9900, and 5100 is still there for Chadd and TBLfan.

And me...Love mine

I may wait on buying a 5100 for the 7500 than. I swear the 5100, and 5500 are the only helmets that fit me well. Dark, when you say sizing sliding easier what do you mean? I would pull it to its limit put it on, smack the front and back and go. Most inovative move in hockey ever.

having both the 9500 and 5500, the 9500 definitely is a lot easier to adjust with a better sliding/fastening mechanism. The 5500 doesn't slide/adjust very well.

so 7500 and 9900 eh? more helmets to add to the collection :D Can't believe how much they dropped the price on the 9500 at hockey experts :o

I hated my 5000, worst helmet I ever owned, so little chance of me buying a 5100.

Have you tried on the 5100?

No, I love the fit of the V08

I own one of those too. I wear that and alternate with my Bauer 5100

The fit of the 5100 and 5500 are different. The 5500 has been one of the most successful helmets ever. It has been in the market place over 12 years. So while it may have been the worst helmet ever for Chadd, I have sold tons of them. The new 7500 will open/close/adjust more easily than the 5500. It will be easier to fit/adjust the helmet when selling it. No more punching, pulling, and smacking the helmet to get the right size on the player's head.
